"Evelyn, Evelyn, my poor child, what’s wrong? Are you not used to living alone? You don’t look well at all."
Evelyn Yates stood at the doorway, facing her mother and Madam Hughes.
"Don’t stand in the draft; you’re so precious now. You carry the Hughes family’s firstborn, the heir of the Hughes family."
Grace Roe glanced at Evelyn Yates and her mother, thinking this mother-daughter duo puts on quite the act.
"Co on in." She spoke lightly and entered the hall.
The servants had already prepared hot tea. Harper Johnson helped Evelyn Yates to sit down: "Evelyn, I heard Joshua returned yesterday?"
Not ntioning it was fine, but bringing it up reminded Evelyn Yates of the humiliation from last night, and tears fell down.
Harper Johnson hurriedly asked: "What happened? Did Joshua bully you? I know he brought a woman back, or did that woman bully you? Such audacity, just letting her stay here, who does she think she is, how dare she bully you like that."
Without even taking a sip of tea, Harper Johnson addressed Grace Roe: "Madam Hughes, you must stand up for our Evelyn today. She’s young and too kind-hearted, too soft and lets others bully her without daring to speak up. Our Evelyn not retaliating shows her upbringing, but as her mother, I cannot tolerate a speck of sand in my eyes. Today, you must stand up for our Evelyn, make that woman leave, and ensure she never contacts Joshua again."
Harper Johnson finished in one breath, picked up the black tea on the table, took a sip, and watched Grace Roe’s reaction.
Indeed, she bore the grace of a lady, quietly listening before elegantly instructing the housekeeper: "Where is the person the young master brought back yesterday? Bring her out."
"I’m afraid that won’t be possible."
The housekeeper replied truthfully; in the Hughes Family rules, whoever is in charge is whom others listen to. Although Madam Hughes is Joshua’s biological mother, her words do not carry as much weight as Joshua’s.
Moreover, at his age, he clearly understood who was truly in the young master’s heart.
This Miss Yates, even if she bears a child, may not beco the Hughes family’s Young Madam.
"Oh? Such a big face? Then let personally invite her."
At this point, Grace Roe was slightly displeased, although her tone did not change much, the sentint could be felt.
"Miss Jane is staying in the young master’s room, you know the young master’s room is off-limits to anyone." The housekeeper answered respectfully with his head bowed.
The housekeeper’s words made Grace Roe’s heart sink. Her eldest son has always been distant from others. Bringing this woman to the Imperial Garden and even having her stay at the Hughes Manor in the sa room was a statent he valued her greatly.
"I don’t care about that, I only know that our Evelyn and our little golden grandson must not be wronged. If she wants to stay, let her co down and kneel to promise she’ll leave after Evelyn’s child is born, and make sure she takes dicine so that no child of such an unclean woman can be born into the Hughes family."
Harper Johnson said viciously, her voice loud as she wanted everyone to hear. She didn’t know where Joshua was staying, but it would be best if that little slut Avery Jane could also hear it.
Harper Johnson just wanted to see how Avery Jane would respond to her.
