New Year’s Day has passed, but the real New Year for Aricans has yet to arrive.
Every high-ranking executive at Hughes Clan recently has been walking on eggshells, as the president’s mood is getting worse by the day, so bad to the point that anyone who sees him is stunned and tongue-tied by his icy aura.
However, even speaking up ans nothing, for they get reprimanded ruthlessly nonetheless.
Constant overti, day after day without rest, the president no longer clocks out on ti as he used to.
So while the lights in the top-floor president’s office are still on, how would the managers downstairs dare leave first?
They bribed the parking lot security for the sa news every ti that Mr. Hughes hasn’t left yet, so they suffer through it, not wanting to risk their high salaries, but the problem is the boss’s temper has reached an outrageous level lately.
"Mr. Hughes, I have news on Avery Jane now."
Angela Scott sat on the sofa in Joshua Hughes’s office, holding her phone with enough of the information Joshua needed.
In fact, thoroughly searching wasn’t difficult, given she knew people at the airport. On that flight, she deduced about a dozen people were most likely suspects.
After investigating one by one, only one girl nad Olivia Hamilton was the most likely, but she transferred from Sydney to Washington State.
Then she followed the lead to Washington State, where getting the travel permit took so ti. Before arriving, she’d instructed friends in Washington State to check police records, and upon seeing the photos, she confidently affird Olivia Hamilton was Avery Jane.
She didn’t inform Joshua imdiately, not wanting him to think finding Avery was too simple or easy.
The truth is, without Avery Jane’s phone call, she couldn’t have found her.
Angela didn’t want Joshua to feel she was taking too much advantage in their deal, so she waited until the deadline approached, demonstrating the task’s difficulty and showing she hadn’t broken her promise, arriving as planned.
"Where is she?"
The man on the sofa spoke in a deep, hoarse voice, his eyebrows unable to hide his urgency, or perhaps he was already unknowingly trapped in love’s web.
Nearly two months now, during which he hasn’t slept soundly, the thoughts of her twist his heart in anguish—her betrayal, her departure, and everything about her, this damned woman.
All he thinks about is finding her and never letting her out again, not even a step down the stairs. He plans to have soone watch her 24/7. If she escapes again, his heart might not endure it.
On nights she’s not there, he misses her so much it hurts all over, clutching her pillow that still holds traces of her scent, gripping it fiercely as if she were still in his arms. The burning desire consus him, yet other won do not rouse him at all.
Not to ntion Evelyn Yates, who always dresses scantily, trying to catch his eye, making him almost nauseous.
Avery Jane, just thinking of the na excites him, that excitent tinged with mysterious pain, electrifying every nerve, urging him to find her, capture her, imprison her so she never leaves again......
"I hope you will keep our agreent."
Angela Scott dared not et Joshua Hughes’s gaze; his eyes were simply too sharp, filled with contempt and disdain. But what of it? She just wanted a better life, fulfilling their mutual needs.
"You must never appear in Avery Jane’s life again."
Joshua said calmly, such a woman truly inspired fear.
She had been considered a trustworthy friend; otherwise, Avery Jane wouldn’t have left any clue for her. But Angela used that trust to betray and deceive, driven by desperation to find Avery—one thing; watching Avery betrayed by friends—another.
He didn’t want Avery Jane hurt, even if the pain was caused by himself.
