Jas Black stepped back, giving way to space. He didn’t have a habit of organizing won’s clothes; it was purely because seeing the suitcase there and the cloakroom barren bothered him, so he took it upon himself to put Jane Sampson’s clothes back one by one.
He stood behind Jane, watching her quickly and skillfully put her things back in their place. After watching for nearly a minute, he finally spoke up, "Noodles for lunch?"
"I’m fine with anything." Jane almost instinctively asked which takeaway to order from, but before the question could escape her lips, she realized that it wasn’t Nina Rice or Peter Gingery standing behind her, but the old-fashioned Jas Black, Chief Black.
Jane stood up, turned around to look at Jas, and said, "Shall I start cooking then? I can sort these out in the afternoon."
"I’ll do it," Jas pressed his hand on Jane’s shoulder, pushing her back down. "Sort through your stuff as quickly as you can and co out for lunch."
Jas swiftly turned and left after speaking.
The mont he was gone, Jane felt every cell in her body relax, and she just plopped down on the ground, silently sighing as she looked at the circle of suitcases Jas had left open around her.
Probably due to Jas’s professional habits, he folded the clothes neatly and squarely. He was quick; by the ti she was daydreaming alone in the living room, he had already taken care of the majority.
Jane sat there, with her elbows on her knees and her palms supporting her chin, lost in thought. Jas’s deanor and reaction today were beyond her expectations.
Instead of a divorce certificate thrown at her in rage, she saw him, unexpectedly, organizing her clothes.
Jane thought that maybe Nina was right; she didn’t understand Jas as well as she thought, like this ti.
Because daydreaming seed to make ti fly unusually fast, Jas’s voice calling her to co out and eat reached her from the living room. Jane glanced around and was shocked to realize that 20 minutes had already passed. Fearing that Jas might co in and berate her, she grabbed all the clothes from the suitcase and stuffed them back in, then quickly closed the wardrobe with a clang to secure the clothes that were about to fall out.
Don’t ask whether Jane’s clothes were still folded or if she intended to sort them separately anymore. Anyway, after she closed the wardrobe, she put the empty suitcase back where it belonged and scurried off to the living room in her slippers.
Jas had already served the noodles on the dinner table, with chopsticks placed on top of the soup scoop, ready for Jane to start eating as soon as she sat down.
"Noodles, huh~" Jane muttered to herself, then asked, "Jas, can you only cook noodles?"
Jas glanced at Jane without making a sound, nor did he seem prepared to answer her.
In fact, noodles were Jas’s specialty. Although he wasn’t clueless about grains, his culinary skills really weren’t that great. Cooking noodles was just easier for him. If he had to make a simple ho-cooked dish, it wasn’t that he couldn’t do it, but none of the color, aroma, or taste would be right, the only good point was that at least the food would be cooked.
"Forget it, never mind I asked." After realizing that Jas wouldn’t answer her, Jane quieted down and began to eat the noodles in her bowl.
In the Black Family household, there was no rule against speaking while eating or remaining silent while sleeping. Back in the day, when Old Madam Black was still around, she enjoyed lively conversations and chatter among the family during als.
