Stripped of the title of Mrs. Jas Black, Julie Sampton awaited to see Jane Sampson ensnare herself due to offending the Black Family and either be kicked out of the Sampton Family by their father or, for the second ti, be used as a tool in marriage to another man. As a divorcee, she would never find a family with as high a status as the Black Family. She might even end up married to an old man older than her father.
Father Sampton glanced at Julie Sampton, who was sitting there and did not seem upset in the least by Jas Black’s phone call.
To him, the fact that Jas Black still protected Jane Sampson was a good thing—it ant that Black would not divorce her because of this incident.
Moreover, Jas’s temperant was not sothing that others could manipulate; therefore, as long as he persisted, even if Old Master Black did not favor Jane, Jas Black would not divorce her.
For Father Sampton, rely maintaining the status of in-laws with the Black Family was sufficient.
It was a pity, though, that Jane Sampson would lose Old Master Black’s favor.
Father Sampton glanced at Julie Sulking on the sofa and suddenly spoke with a sigh, "It’s a pity that it wasn’t Julie who married into the Black Family."
Hearing her father ntion her, Julie, who was still sulking, imdiately turned back and looked at Father Sampton with a face full of guilt, "I’m sorry, daddy, I’ve disappointed you. I couldn’t help you."
Julie lowered her head and said, "If it were , knowing that dad still needs the relationship with the Black Family, I would never have been so willful to anger the Black Family. It’s a pity that I didn’t grow up by dad and mom’s side, and Elder Black looks down on , the second Miss of the Sampton Family, who was picked up from the countryside."
As she spoke, tears brimd in Julie’s eyes, making her appear extrely pitiable.
Bright Sampton put her teacup heavily on the table with a clanging sound, "Enough, can’t you stop the act? It’s disgusting to watch."
Had it not been for Julie Sampton stepping on Jane’s toes at this ti, Bright Sampton would have kept this to herself forever.
But Julie Sampton should never have taken advantage of the situation and still expected to play the innocent.
"Julie Sampton, if you truly think that way, why then, when you first knew that dad wanted to switch the marriage contract to you and have you marry Brother Jas Black, did you spend all day crying in front of mother, claiming you didn’t want to marry Jas, forcing mom to say that if she insisted on your marriage to Jas, you’d rather die to end it all? Weren’t those your words?"
Julie Sampton’s face turned deathly pale; she thought only she and her mother knew about this. Did Bright Sampton also know?
"Bright, stop talking!" Mother Sampton anxiously scrutinized her husband’s expression and hesitantly explained, "I was also thinking that Julie is still young..."
"Mom, my sister and Julie Sampton were born on the sa day at the sa ti, only the exact minutes and seconds are unknown. When Julie ca back, you had a preference for her, wanting her to be the younger sister, making my sister the elder and indulging Julie, pampering Julie. Maybe Julie was even born a few minutes before my sister. So, this excuse of being too young, I can’t even bear to hear it."
For the first ti, Bright Sampton spoke to Mother Sampton in this tone, "Anyway, in mom’s eyes, I’m not even sure if you still consider my sister your daughter. After more than a decade of affection, it seems mom can simply take away what you’ve given to my sister. Hasn’t it crossed your mind how much damage this does to her?"
And you, Julie Sampton," Bright Sampton addressed the woman sitting across from her, using her full na. "It was you who kicked up a fuss, refusing to marry Brother Jas Black, calling the Black Family a pit of fire and Jas an unsuitable lifelong partner. You didn’t want to be treated like rchandise to be pawned off by dad. So now, don’t pretend here, acting all pitiful—it makes want to vomit, you know?"
Bright Sampton now found tearing off Julie Sampton’s mask in front of their parents to be quite amusing; she had had enough, and so had her sister.
