"Alright." Bright Sampton nodded assuredly only after Granny Sampton had arranged everything. "After we finish the al, I’ll go back with my sister and brother-in-law. Granny, if you ever miss , feel free to call anyti. When you want to travel, if no one can go with you, just call , I’ll make ti and go with you."
"Good, good, good. I know you and your sister are both so filial." Granny Sampton grinned from ear to ear.
Perhaps it was Jane Sampson’s culinary skills that suited Granny Sampton’s taste, or perhaps it was the company of her most beloved granddaughter and grandson, but this dinner made Granny Sampson very happy, and she ate a bit more than usual.
After eating, Bright Sampton, Jas Black, and Jane Sampson left together by car. Jas Black first drove Bright Sampton back to the training villa, and then drove himself and Jane Sampson back to the guard team.
As soon as Jane Sampson got out of the car, Peter Gingery hurried over, looking worried.
Jas Black had taken a few days off. Although Peter Gingery had wanted to visit Old Sir Sampton and offer his respects, he couldn’t leave the guard team, so it was pointless.
However, during the morial service for Old Sir Sampton’s remains, Peter Gingery managed to take a few hours off and made a visit.
"Jane, are you okay? People can’t co back from the dead. My condolences. You still have all of us here for you, right?" Peter Gingery rubbed his palm, a little concerned that Jane Sampson might burst into tears upon hearing this.
"I’m fine." Jane Sampson patted Peter Gingery on the shoulder. "Thanks for worrying about ."
No matter how hard it was to accept, soone who had passed was truly gone and would never return.
Jane Sampson reminded herself that Granny Sampton had already moved on. If she stayed stuck in grief, how would she be able to support Granny Sampson?
She couldn’t let things turn around to where Granny Sampson had to console her instead.
Peter Gingery scratched his head, glanced at Jas Black standing next to them, hesitated for a mont, then nodded and reached out to push Jas Black forward. "Brother, you go ahead. I need to talk about sothing with Jane for a bit."
Jas Black’s eyelids twitched slightly. He turned to look at Peter Gingery, who was behind him pushing him. That gaze alone scared Peter Gingery into imdiately retracting his hand, adopting an expression that said: "I know I was wrong."
"Spineless." Jane Sampson glanced disdainfully at Peter Gingery, then dragged him aside and stood behind Jas Black. With both hands, she shoved Jas Black’s back, urging him up the stairs while grumbling, "If I say you should go first, then you go first. Peter and I will catch up in a bit."
Peter Gingery stood behind Jane Sampson and swallowed hard.
It was just the New Year, and Jane Sampson seed to have grown bolder and more fearless.
Jas Black gave a nonchalant "Hmm" before finally stepping forward and heading upstairs. As soon as Jas Black was gone, Jane Sampson turned to Peter Gingery and asked, "So, what did you want to say to in private?"
"In private?" Peter Gingery shook his head. "What’s there to say in private? I just wanted your brother to go ahead and open the door first while we chatted behind him and waited for him to go up. I wasn’t trying to kick him out."
After receiving an annoyed eye-roll from Jane Sampson, Peter Gingery returned the favor with a roll of his own eyes. Then he explained, "You haven’t been online these past few days. Oscar Wilson couldn’t reach you this morning, so he called instead and reported Jillian Carter’s latest situation."
So Peter Gingery truly hadn’t intended to say anything to Jane Sampson that Jas Black couldn’t hear—it was just a misunderstanding on her part.
"Last ti, didn’t Oscar Wilson ntion Jillian Carter’s fiancé had filed a marriage report? Well, Oscar said the higher-ups approved it, so this morning Jillian Carter and her fiancé went to the Civil Affairs Office to register their marriage and get their certificate. Jillian Carter is now officially married." Peter Gingery clicked his tongue repeatedly in disbelief. "How can soone get married so quickly?"
"So Jillian Carter probably isn’t living in the countryside anymore, right?" Jane Sampson didn’t care much about Jillian Carter’s marital status—she just found Jillian’s actions a bit perplexing.
