Her head burrowed into the crook of his arm, her back pressing against his chest. She leaned against him like this, treating him as a human sofa.
A pair of curious eyes glanced twice at the book in his hand, then she gave him a disapproving look.
"I’ve already read this book!" Jane Sampson swung her long legs. "And you haven’t finished it yet? This book is so boring—it’s entirely about the history of weapon evolution."
"If it’s boring, didn’t you still finish the whole thing?" Jas Black chuckled lightly, closing the book and placing it on the bedhead cabinet.
"I read it because I was bored with nothing else to do, so I went to your study to find sothing to pass the ti." Jane Sampson said smugly. "I’ve basically read all the books in your study, except for the ones entirely in foreign languages that I can’t understand."
"Mm." Jas Black reached out to ruffle Jane Sampson’s soft hair. He knew she’d paged through all the books in his study.
He had overheard her talking with others about those books. She said that she casually flipped through them when she was bored, yet, after reading them, she could rember everything clearly.
Whenever she sat down with others to chat, as long as she was willing, no matter the person’s age or the topic, she could always talk enthusiastically and engagingly.
This was one of the qualities Old Master Black especially admired about Jane Sampson. When she was calm, she could sit alone at a desk and read for half a day; when she was lively, she could be exuberantly animated and full of energy.
She was also incredibly hardworking. When she was young and practicing the piano, aside from eating and sleeping, she could spend the entire day sitting at the piano.
"Aren’t you going to praise a little?" Jane Sampson blinked her lively eyes at Jas Black, leaning her head forward, her little lips pouting, "Give a kiss."
Since she hadn’t managed to get a kiss earlier, she had to make up for it now.
Amusent flickered in Jas Black’s eyebrows and eyes.
He tapped the inside of his cheek with his tongue, a motion that swept away his usual composure and lent him an air of roguish charm.
"Are you sure you want a kiss?" Jas Black asked.
Jane Sampson didn’t overthink it and nodded. "Just one kiss."
She even held up a thumb, wagging it playfully in front of him.
But just after she’d said that, Jas Black abruptly rolled over and pinned the lazily leaning woman beneath him.
"Then one kiss won’t be enough."
This was what he said one second before his kiss descended. Jane Sampson had no ti to react before she was firmly pinned down, and his kiss ca on fierce and fast.
Jas Black used his actions to explain the aning behind his words.
From the start, it was never going to be as simple as "just one kiss."
Passionate, intense.
A night of passion.

The consequence of indulging at night was not being able to get up the next day.
Jane Sampson had no idea when Jas Black left the house. By the ti she opened her eyes, it was already ten-thirty in the morning. The suitcase that had originally been in the corner by the room doorway was no longer there.
Picking up her mobile phone, Jane Sampson realized there were two missed calls, both from Rock Bell.
Jane Sampson glanced at the side of her phone and, sure enough, it had been silenced by Jas Black. No wonder she hadn’t heard the calls.
Jas Black must have done it to stop the phone from waking her up.
Underneath her phone, there was a handwritten note from Jas Black. His handwriting was steady but carried a hint of untad flair, just like his personality.
The trash has already been taken out for you, the suitcase is back in the cloakroom, and I’ve bought bread and milk for you in the refrigerator. Rember to eat when you wake up. I’ve returned to the guard team.
At the end of the note, there were two crossed-out characters. Jane Sampson studied them carefully and realized the crossed-out words were: "urgent matters."
