Jane Sampson couldn’t resist flattery, and with every complint, the smile on her face beca increasingly uncontrollable. In just a few words, she had blossod into a beaming sunflower.
Rock Bell rolled her eyes at Jane Sampson and said with a hint of exasperation, "Once you enter the film crew, rember to keep your emotions in check. Don’t be so transparent that people can see right through you."
"I know. I’m just not masking it in front of Sister Tin." Jane felt proud, thinking back to the years she had concealed her feelings from Jas Black without him ever noticing. She was thus quite confident in her acting skills.
Life is simple, but those living it aren’t. Jane understood the implicit ssage behind Sister Tin’s reminder.
Those who cannot be seen through always have a happier life than the transparent ones, because those who want to attack you don’t know where to start.
Jane felt her mobile phone vibrate in her pocket, indicating a new text ssage. She took it out and saw it was from Julie Sampton.

Upon seeing the ssage, Jane replied decisively, "No."
She didn’t understand why Julie had been so insistent on eting her these past few days, but today at the TV station, not only did Julie pretend not to know her, she even tried to undermine Jane in secret, hoping to make her look foolish—even on stage, she wanted to have a face-off with her.
Jane rembered what Jas had said—she was not soone Julie could summon or dismiss at will.
Perhaps it was Jane’s curt refusal that angered Julie. A few seconds later, Jane’s phone began to ring again.
"Whose call is that? Why aren’t you answering?" Rock Bell, who was next to Jane, asked curiously after seeing her hang up, "Is it Jas?"
If it was Jas and Jane dared to hang up on him, Rock would have to give Jane her due respects—as tough as any man.
"It’s Julie’s." Jane briefly filled Rock in on the day’s happenings at the TV station, including the incident involving the makeup artist.
Rock’s eyebrows knitted slightly as if sothing had crossed her mind. She spoke up, "Answer it. Let’s see what she has to say."
Jane glanced at Rock and uttered an "Okay" before picking up the call and holding the phone to her ear with a "Hello?"
"Jane Sampson, you dare not et or answer my calls. Feeling guilty? Afraid I’ll expose your lies? Scared of losing your status as Mrs. Black?"
The mont she answered, Jane was greeted with Julie’s condescending tirade.
"If all you want to do when you see is say these things, then my answer remains the sa—no." Jane scoffed. She didn’t believe she had lied, nor did she think these words could change Jas’s mind about the divorce.
If it were that easy for Jas to agree to a divorce, she and Jas would have been divorced long ago. What would there be to worry about now?
"Jane Sampson, let’s make a deal." Julie, thinking she had leverage over Jane, sounded quite excited, "I’ll keep your secret, and you, tell Dad that I’ve transferred the shares back to you."
"Shares?" Jane was briefly confused by this, "What does this have to do with the shares?"
"Stop pretending. Do you dare say you didn’t know Dad told and Mom to give you all the shares? Isn’t Bright Sampton your loyal lapdog? He didn’t tell you Dad’s intentions?" Julie refused to believe such an important matter hadn’t been ntioned to Jane by Bright.
