"Sure, sure, but do you have a container to carry all this stuff? We don’t have bags here, and all those comrades who packed food to take back brought their own tableware," Elder Brother said with a chuckle. After all, this place is different from the dining halls outside; it’s naturally unlikely that we’ll prepare plastic bags or anything like that. The guard team even advocates for environntal protection."
"A container?" Jane Sampson blinked.
Back at the dormitory, she only had one cup for brushing teeth and a thermos for drinking water.
That was all.
"Girl, why not borrow one?" Elder Brother suggested to Jane Sampson.
Borrow one?
That idea wasn’t bad.
But from whom?
Jane turned her head to take a look at the group behind her, and those young team mbers imdiately felt regretful. If only they had known to bring a lunchbox from the dormitory this morning!
Just as Jane was figuring out what else she could do, suddenly, soone appeared in front of her.
When Jane saw Jas Black, the first thing she noticed was the lunchbox in his hand!
He was like an angel sending charcoal in snowy weather—such a good Samaritan!
As soon as Jas entered the dining hall, he saw the filming crew with their camcorders. Thinking it was still early and his lazy wife wouldn’t be up this early, Jas didn’t give it much thought. Seeing the group of dumbfounded subordinates not lining up, he walked over and asked, "What are you all doing huddled here?"
"Watching Goddess Sampson," one young team mber replied in a low voice.
Goddess Sampson?
Jane Sampson?
Jas was surprised for a mont, then turned his gaze forward and, sure enough, saw the woman who he thought wouldn’t co this early, already standing there, smiling at him.
Ha, smiling with ulterior motives.
By the ti Jas finally got closer, the smile on Jane’s face beca more and more difficult to hide.
"Comrade, could I borrow your lunchbox for a few days?" In Jane’s mind, she fully expected Jas to hand her the lunchbox right away.
Without even asking why.
But reality was...
"You want the lunchbox? For what?"
Jas asked two questions in a row. The first was filled with doubt about why she wanted his lunchbox, and the second was about what she needed the lunchbox for.
"Goddess Sampson wants to take food back in case she gets hungry in the evening," a well-intentioned young team mber explained on behalf of their Goddess Sampson.
While explaining, he felt anxious for their Goddess Sampson in his heart. Who else could she have borrowed from, and why did she have such bad luck to ask their general, who never understood the concept of cherishing fragrance and admiring jade?
The team mbers all silently sweated for Jane Sampson, thinking if she got rejected in front of a national audience, it’d be quite embarrassing.
The dining hall fell silent for a few seconds following Jas’s silence, and a few seconds later...
And Jas, true to everyone’s expectations...
Sure enough, refused.
"Not lending it," he said crisply and clearly, and then, bypassing Jane Sampson, he said to Elder Brother inside, "One bowl of peanut soup, two wild vegetable buns, two at buns."
It wasn’t until Jas picked up his lunchbox and turned to go that Jane Sampson was still in shock.
Jas Black, he really wasn’t lending her even a lunchbox!
She must be in a sham marriage, right?
How could soone like Jas ever get a wife?
Out of bed and denying recognition? Eating his fill and coldheartedly turning away!
"Goddess Sampson, don’t take it to heart, our general, he..." The young team mber scratched his head, not knowing what words to find to describe their general. He wanted to find words that would neither belittle the general nor fail to comfort Goddess Sampson, but after thinking for a while, he couldn’t co up with anything and could only awkwardly smile.
