Inside the library, Fuyuji sat on one side of the table, hands folded before his lips, examining Morishita opposite him, silhouetted against the light.

"What are you here for?" Fuyuji asked with half-lidded eyes.

"Because I wanted to co, so I ca."

Morishita was as self-assuredly righteous as ever.

"The library is a public space open to all. Anyone may enter to acquire knowledge. Fuyuji Mikage, please understand this point."

Having said that, Morishita shot a glance at the practice booklet Fuyuji had placed on the table and asked, as if casually, "Is your training over for today?"

"It just ended a little while ago."

Fuyuji hesitated, then asked, "You... seem disappointed?"

"How could that be..."

Morishita turned her head aside and began whistling out of the corner of her mouth.

"Don't tell you were thinking of sothing like coming to sabotage my academic progress?" Fuyuji said darkly.

"To think you would doubt Morishita-sama's feelings of care for a classmate. Fuyuji Mikage, you heartless, unrighteous ga-pervert!"

Morishita slapped both hands on the table and launched into her signature operation of reversing the accusation.

"It's because Morishita-san said she hadn't found anything interesting, so she ca to find you, Fuyuji-kun." Yamamura quietly explained from the side.

In other words... this girl is treating as a source of amusent, huh? Fuyuji felt his blood pressure slowly rising.

"I'm spending my own ti to co to the library and accompany you. Shouldn't you feel grateful to in your heart?"

"Thanks." Fuyuji said with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"You're welco."

"My tutoring is done for today. Looks like you made a trip for nothing."

"The Morishita family never makes a wasted effort." Regarding this, Morishita didn't seem to mind. She looked around the library. "Since I'm already here, I must find an interesting book before I leave."

Don't tell it's going to be sothing like "Accounts of Yokai Folk Customs" again?

Without waiting for Fuyuji to respond, Morishita dragged Yamamura and plunged headfirst into the stacks. Given her personality, searching through a vast sea of books to find one that interested her seed to also be part of the experience.

On the other side, Kamuro had just finished her practice problems and was leaning back in her chair, her head tilted up, looking utterly "finally liberated."

Shiraishi, her legs folded sideways, was leisurely flipping through a book while watching the bickering between Fuyuji and Morishita with great amusent.

"You two go on ahead first."

Fuyuji took out his phone to check the ti. Knowing Morishita's personality, she wouldn't leave satisfied until she'd burned off all her energy.

"I understand."

Shiraishi nodded with a smile. Ever since being critically hit by Fuyuji just earlier, she had softened considerably, as if returning to the gentle and considerate Yamato Nadeshiko form she'd had at the very start of the school year.

"Got it."

Kamuro nodded with a disgusted face. She was different from Fuyuji; she was very busy. She still had to go investigate intel on Class D later.

After saying goodbye to the two, Fuyuji turned around and scanned his surroundings, but didn't spot Morishita or Yamamura.

I'll go find a book to kill ti too...

Following the dazzling array of book titles on the shelves, Fuyuji lightened his steps and strolled leisurely through the book stacks.

"The Red and the Black"...

"La Codie Humaine"...

"Farewell, My Lovely"...

"Notre-Da de Paris"...

Fuyuji stopped walking and reached out to take down the one book that was most incongruous among them—"Farewell, My Lovely." Mm. He nodded in satisfaction. That looked much better now.

Fuyuji lowered his head and examined the book's cover. The author was Chandler Raymond... the sa author as that "The Long Goodbye" he'd been reading in the classroom last ti.

After hesitating for a mont, he decided to give it a try. Even though the plot of the previous book had been spoiled by that Morishita, he had to admit, that book had considerable depth and charm.

Thinking this, Fuyuji tucked the book under his arm and left.

In a corner Fuyuji hadn't noticed, a girl with long, silvery-white hair stared at the spine of the book tucked under his arm, puffing out her adorable cheeks slightly.

Leaving the world classics section, Fuyuji turned into the comparatively less populated lifestyle and managent section.

Morishita was at the very back, beneath a tall bookshelf, standing on her tiptoes and reaching her hand up to try to touch the books on the shelf above.

To be fair, Morishita wasn't considered short. Among the girls, she was on the slightly above-average side. What's more, there was a step stool right next to her. All she had to do was move it over, step up, and she could reach it. Yet, this stubborn-headed girl just had to see if she could reach it on her own.

Fuyuji approached silently, leaned lightly against the wall nearby, and watched the iron-headed girl's efforts with keen interest.

After trying several tis and realizing she couldn't reach it, Morishita halted her movents. Her gaze, brimming with murderous intent, snapped towards Fuyuji, who was watching the show off to the side, holding back laughter.

"As expected of the cold-blooded, ruthless, cunning and sly Fuyuji Mikage. Seeing your own adorable classmate sitting behind you in a predicant, you actually choose not to help, but to stand by and watch with folded arms."

"Haha. Weren't you the one laughing at my nine points in Japanese back then?"

Fuyuji still couldn't hold it in and burst out laughing. He placed the book he was carrying onto a nearby table, then walked over to Morishita's side while laughing, raising his arm.

"Allow your kind-hearted front-seat classmate to help you retrieve your target."

"Is it this one? Hoh, it's a Chinese-to-Japanese translation. Let see what—"

The smile on his face gradually vanished. His fingers stopped at the book's spine. Expressionlessly, he looked down at Morishita.

"I suddenly really don't want to give this book to you."

Its title was—"How to Deal with the Enemy's Ashes"!

"Hand it over, now!"

"No. First, I'll inspect the contents. Then I'll consider whether to give it to you."

"As expected of the inherently evil Alien Empera, specializing in plundering the possessions of others."

"First co, first served. You taught that. I'm borrowing this book first."

"Stingy Fuyuji Mikage. To think you'd hold a grudge over a single seat even now. And didn't I give it back?"

"You call that giving it back? And you have the nerve to call stingy? Don't think I don't know. That day, after I snatched my seat back, you were staring at through the glass. And you say you don't hold grudges?"

"I was rely curious what kind of shaless individual could commit an act like snatching soone's seat in public. In any case, give it to now!"

"Not giving it!"

In the corner of the library, the evening sunlight stread through the glass window, falling upon the two of them and casting their shadows onto the floor. The taller shadow held the book high overhead, keeping it out of reach of the smaller shadow. The smaller shadow strained on tiptoes, grabbing the taller shadow's clothes, reaching a hand out towards the book.

"Co on. If you can reach it, it's yours. You couldn't reach it before, but maybe you can succeed this ti." Fuyuji slightly lowered the book's height a fraction, then, like a fisherman, gradually raised it bit by bit again.

"Fuyuji Mikage," Morishita's eyes were fixed intently on that book. Her voice, normally devoid of emotional fluctuation, actually, rarely, carried a trace of anger. "You're finished. You actually dare to provoke Morishita-sama. The mont I get my hands on it, I'll strike you on the head with it in one blow, and knock you straight back into a stone statue."

"Then I absolutely can't give it to you. I have to learn the contents of this book before you do, and then pay you back in your own coin!"

"A guy with nine points in Japanese would do best to give up early. That's my advice to you."

"Haah? My Japanese this ti is—"

The voice, flushed with fury, suddenly stopped.

"Finally surrendering—"

The slightly smug voice sank into silence along with it.

Beneath the setting sun, the tips of their noses were re inches apart. Fuyuji could clearly see his own face reflected in Morishita's glistening eyes, the diamond-shaped hair clip on her head, and those slightly parted, moist lips. A peach-like fragrance ebbed and flowed with the rhythm of their breathing, lingering around the two of them. The ponytail swaying in front of Morishita's chest brushed against the back of his hand. A little ticklish, and a little strange.

"..."

Neither of them spoke a word. They silently separated.

After a long while, Fuyuji silently handed the book over.

"Here..."

"Mm..." Morishita accepted the book.

The two fell into a wordless silence once more. An indescribable atmosphere spread around them.

Finally, Fuyuji was the first to break the silence.

"Um... what should we eat tonight?"

"Whatever."

"The student cafeteria?"

"No!"

"That conveyor belt sushi place from last ti?"

"No!"

"Then... the ran shop?"

"Alright!"

The corner of Fuyuji's eye twitched violently. As expected, "whatever" was just your lie. Even soone as self-centered as Morishita couldn't escape this universal tendency of won.
