Now reading: Chapter 49: Why Are Those Two Stacked on Top of Each Other? from COTE : Oh No, I've Become the Substitute, a Comedy novel by YuniTL.

A pigeon flapped its wings and descended from the sky, folding its wings as it landed on the balcony of a room on the fourth floor.

Wild Pigeon pecked lightly at its own wing a couple of tis, tilted its neck, and observed the two people inside the room with eyes full of wisdom.

"Coo coo~" (Why are those two stacked on top of each other?)

Inside Room 404 of the boys' dormitory.

So hard...

And yet so soft...

Fuyuji's cheek was pressed against the cold, hard floor. One arm was pinned behind his back. A hand—soft yet powerful—was pressing down on the back of his neck.

Of course, none of that was the main point.

Fuyuji shifted his body slightly.

The main point was...

"Senpai, I feel like you're just a tiny bit heav—"

Before the words finished leaving his mouth, the hand on his neck applied an extra degree of force, causing the unyielding hardness of the floor that Fuyuji felt to grow a few degrees colder once more.

"You brat. Even at a ti like this, you're still running your mouth and teasing your Senpai."

"Haven't you teased plenty on normal days too, Senpai?"

Pinned to the floor, his cheek slightly deford, Fuyuji's voice ca out flattened.

Fun fact: In Japan, won generally take their husband's surna after marriage.

So, faced with Senpai's stated expectations for her future, Fuyuji had not hesitated for a single mont before offering this express shortcut to heaven.

Find soone and get married. Settle it once and for all.

Subsequently, Fuyuji's field of vision abruptly shifted upwards from Kiryuin Fuka's fierce, beautiful face—first, her flying, flowing long hair, then her slender waist. Imdiately followed by a dull thud. When he opened his eyes, he saw long legs clad in black tights.

Then he was sanctioned by Senpai. His entire body was pressed to the floor, unable to move a muscle.

The force on his neck loosened a fraction, enough to allow Fuyuji to reach a level where he could speak normally.

"My intuition tells that you brat are thinking about sothing else."

"Senpai, things like intuition are never accurate. Would you rather trust your intuition than trust ?"

Fuyuji attempted to be stubborn with his mouth. He then tried to thrash about a bit and discovered he was accomplishing absolutely nothing. Kiryuin had skillfully controlled his body to a point where she could firmly pin him down, yet without making Fuyuji feel too uncomfortable.

Logically speaking, in this situation, even with her high level of technique, Fuyuji should have been able to forcibly break free relying on his own strength. Yet, he was still completely immobilized.

So, Senpai, just how good is your physical fitness anyway?

"If it were any other ti, I'd believe you. But not right now. My intuition is very reliable. It usually has a hit rate of over half. Weren't you found by my intuition in the first place? You're the first young guy I've ever t who dares to tease like this."

A normal person wouldn't even think of teasing you, Senpai. You're that fierce—

"Hm? Are you thinking about sothing bad again?" Fuyuji was once again, once again pressed against the floor.

Fuyuji was starting to crack. "Wait, Senpai, is this intuition or mind-reading? Your family wouldn't happen to be so kind of mafia from Italy, would it? Hyper Intuition?"

It was just ridiculous. His own superpower could only vaguely sense other people's emotions. And here Senpai was, her intuition practically reading his mind.

"Mafia? Hmm, it does seem our family has so involvent in that area. But it's not the main business. Now's not the ti for that. So, that ans you were indeed thinking bad things, right?"

"..." Fuyuji was speechless.

In the end, after struggling like a salted fish a few tis to absolutely no avail, Fuyuji could only surrender helplessly under Kiryuin's oppressive might.

"Senpai, I was wrong. Please forgive ."

...

Inside the moderately sized room, a man and a woman sat beside a small, square table.

The boy sat properly in front of the girl, writing on a test paper. The girl, anwhile, was casually flipping through the boy's practice booklet.

"Do you have to be this fierce? I think settling it in one step is pretty good." Fuyuji lowered his head, one hand holding a pen, the other rubbing his poor, aching waist, muttering quietly.

Senpai was well-versed in combat techniques. Fuyuji had personally experienced this truth with his own body.

"Hm?" A cold glint flashed through Kiryuin's eyes. "What did you say?"

"Nothing. Not a thing." Fuyuji hurriedly sat up straight.

Kiryuin turned her head back and continued flipping through the practice booklet. The atmosphere in the room felt sowhat frozen for a mont.

As expected, whoever ends up actually marrying Senpai in the future will absolutely be suppressed by her to the point of being utterly henpecked.

Fuyuji quietly raised his head and stole a glance at Kiryuin's profile. Her silver hair was mostly held back by a slightly slanted hairband, cascading down both sides and obscuring a small portion of her flawless cheek. Through the strands of hair, one could sense her undisguised, sharp edge.

A forceful personality. Conceited and vain. Outstanding ability. And, most critically, an incredible fighter.

Who on earth could possibly ta her?

"Not bad. Is this really the result of just a few short days of progress?" Kiryuin snapped the practice booklet shut with a clap, interrupting Fuyuji's thoughts.

Fuyuji's level was equivalent to having pulled his Japanese proficiency from roughly a first-year middle school level up to the current average of Class A within just a few days. And this had been achieved during only that short bit of tutoring ti after school.

"Ahaha." Fuyuji let out a couple of dry laughs. "This is the result of help from my classmates and teacher. I've been going to the library for tutoring after school these past few days too."

These past few days, Shiraishi Asuka had helped him shore up his Japanese fundantals. Plus, there was Mashima Tomonari's potion notebook... Alright, he couldn't spin this any further.

What normal person could take a subject from complete beginner and catch up to the progress others had painstakingly studied for years in less than five days? Don't underestimate the power of human effort, dammit!

It could only be said: the cheat left behind by the System really is damn useful!

"I didn't see that coming. Turns out you're actually a genius." Kiryuin pinched her chin and looked Fuyuji up and down. "Before I ca, I was fully prepared that if your Japanese foundation was truly too poor, I'd forcibly drag you off to cram school, and then personally teach you myself."

Fuyuji was puzzled. "Aren't I in the middle of tutoring right now?"

"Keyaki Mall has a cram school specifically targeted at students. As long as you pay enough points, even if you're at an elentary school level, they can teach you from the very beginning."

"..."

System, although I've always cursed you for being inhumane, and often thought that if you ever appeared before again, I'd absolutely bend your USB port until it leaked oil... but right now, I want to sincerely say thank you. And then bend your port until it leaks oil.

If he'd really been dragged off by Kiryuin for elentary school-level tutoring... if word of that got out, his lifeti of reputation would be utterly ruined. Would he still be able to hold onto his title of Class A Weirdo?

"Maintain your current learning efficiency, and no matter what field you go into in the future, you'll have a place in it. What are your plans for the future? Let hear them."

Kiryuin adjusted her posture, putting on a look of keen interest.

Fuyuji continued writing on his test paper. "About that... I don't really know myself. Change the world? Or live a plain, simple life, like Senpai? Both seem pretty difficult."

Kiryuin nodded and asked seriously, "And then? Through what thod do you plan to change the world?"

"Eh? Senpai doesn't think I'm just having a chuunibyou episode?"

Fuyuji found it strange. Given the personality he'd displayed so far, anyone who knew him would mostly assu he was just acting up again and using chuunibyou to change the subject.

"I do, in fact, believe it's possible for you to accomplish such a thing."

"Senpai..."

Fuyuji was sowhat moved. He was about to speak—but abruptly stopped. Hesitantly, he asked:

"It's not intuition again, is it?"

"It's part of it." Kiryuin propped her elbow on the table and stared at Fuyuji's face. "In truth, from the very first mont I laid eyes on you, I felt you were a bit special, not quite the sa as ordinary people. How should I put it... mm... Ah, I've got it!"

"You feel sowhat out of place with this world."

The pen in mid-writing stopped. "Is this so kind of folk-science taphysics?"

"Other people probably have a bit of this feeling too. It's just been completely overshadowed by that bizarre personality of yours."

Fuyuji pinched his chin and said, with a touch of delight, "Could it be... I'm... the protagonist?"

This thought lasted for only a single second.

"Forget it, forget it." Fuyuji shook his head. "Being the protagonist of this kind of school... I always feel like it wouldn't be a good thing. Right now, figuring out how to wash away the sha of my nine points in Japanese seems more practical."

"Such defeatist talk won't do. You're the kouhai acknowledged by , Kiryuin Fuka."

Kiryuin slapped the table. "Let's begin. The official tutoring. I will help you raise your Japanese grade to a level within the top 20 of your year."

Ah, top 20 in Japanese? ?

At this mont, Fuyuji experienced the sa stifled, oppressed feeling that Kamuro Masumi had felt a few days prior.

It wasn't that he doubted Kiryuin's skill. Her academic performance in the second year was renowned, absolutely among the top ranks. Calling her number one wouldn't even be an exaggeration.

But half a day...

"Co!"

Kiryuin took a pen and circled sections, large and small, on the table of contents of the textbook, then pushed it over to Fuyuji.

"These are all the knowledge points you haven't yet fully grasped. For the next hour, you'll review on your own. Use whatever thod you like. Figure them out. One hour from now, I'll create so similar problems based on this material." Kiryuin stood up.

That's it?

Fuyuji shook his head, a confident, well-prepared smile surfacing on his face.

"For every two problems you get wrong, you'll accompany on one shopping trip."

Fuyuji's entire being instantly turned pale and ashen...

"That's how it is! See you in an hour!"

"Wait—!"

Slam—!

The sound of the door closing heavily landed in the depths of Fuyuji's heart, echoing within him, unable to settle for a long, long ti.

Fuyuji's hand, extended toward the door, stiffened in mid-air, like a carbonized statue suddenly struck by a nuclear blast.

So after all that, she'd been lying in wait for right here.

Also, Senpai... you wouldn't happen to actually be holding a bit of a grudge, would you? Getting back at because I told you to get married earlier...

Fuyuji slowly turned his head. His gaze fixed on the coursework Kiryuin had circled. He swallowed a mouthful of saliva, gritted his teeth, and resolved: I'll go all out!

One and a half hours later.

Already in a burnt-out, completely exhausted state, Fuyuji lay motionless on the desk. His corpse had probably been stiff for quite so ti.

"Kouhai," Kiryuin capped her pen and looked at the corpse-like Fuyuji, full of surprise, "I underestimated you. To think you only got ONE wrong?!"

Fuyuji smiled silently.

Are you kidding? He'd been using Probe to directly scan the knowledge circled in the textbook again and again, forcibly cramming it into his brain.

The cost, of course, was that Fuyuji was now in a CPU overclocked state. His ntal energy was completely wrung dry. He couldn't use it again until tomorrow.

And he also felt like throwing up... No, not just felt like it!

Uurgh—!

Fuyuji forcibly suppressed the churning in his stomach.

"You... really are different, aren't you." Kiryuin scrutinized Fuyuji's deathly pale face. "Originally, I only wanted to test where your limits lay. It seems this level still isn't enough. I'm believing my own judgnt more and more."

"I just happened to run into the stuff I knew, that's all. This should be considered a normal pace, right? Doesn't Senpai always look like she breezes through studying effortlessly too?" Even on the verge of death, his mouth remained as stubborn as ever.

"As expected of , who picked you out of the crowd at a single glance."

So that was the main point? Fuyuji broke out in a cold sweat.

"You're wrong about that one, actually. I did put effort into my studies. After all, it relates to the university I'll attend in the future."

It didn't show at all. That Senpai, who went off to enjoy her leisurely ti every day after school, would also put effort into studying sowhere?

Fuyuji had previously thought Senpai would be the type to drop dragon-race-tier statents like, "Knowledge is sothing that just naturally appears in your mind once you reach a certain age."

"Seems like, even without my tutoring, you could get into the top twenty on your own ability." Kiryuin once again reviewed Fuyuji's test paper and drew a conclusion.

"Then Senpai, does that an our tutoring is—"

"Therefore, we must revise the target to the top 10 to be worthy of your talent. If you slack off for too long, even the heavens will take it back."

Kiryuin forcefully rejected the notion and pressed the attack, once again adding more weight onto Fuyuji, kicking him back down just as he was about to revive on the spot.

"Next, your tasks for this week are these..."

Kiryuin swiftly wrote down the objectives with a pen on a piece of paper, tore it off with a rip, and handed it to Fuyuji. Her handwriting was flowing, dashing, and bold.

"I'll co to check the results next weekend. If you don't complete them, you're accompanying shopping." Having said that, she stood up and headed for the door.

"Senpai..." Fuyuji also stood up at the sa ti, his gaze dark and brooding. "Your true goal from the very beginning was actually just to drag out shopping, wasn't it?"

"..."

"How could that be? Rising a genius from zero would be far more fulfilling than going shopping with you, wouldn't it?"

"Has anyone ever told you, Senpai, that you're a terrible liar?"

"Because I've never t anyone before who could make need to lie." Kiryuin was incomparably candid. She casually picked up her bag, which was hanging on the wall. "That's it, then. See you next week!"

"Senpai!"

Fuyuji subconsciously called out, stopping Kiryuin just as she was about to step away.

"Is there sothing else?" Kiryuin turned around.

Fuyuji stepped forward, reached out, and straightened the black hairband on her head, which had been knocked slightly askew from her earlier movents.

"This is better. Otherwise, it wouldn't match Senpai's dashing image."

"..."

After standing quietly in place for a mont, Kiryuin reached up and touched the hairband on her head.

"What a pity. I still prefer it when you call cute, Kouhai."

"It's the sa either way."
