The next day, Anxi stayed with Wang Keru. The mother and daughter shared many heartfelt words, and their bond naturally felt different than before.
Wang Keru wasn’t particularly bothered about divorcing Qin Han. Marrying him had always been a matter of convenience, and over the past year or so, she had co to see his true colors. Where was the real affection in any of it?
Instead, she earnestly advised Anxi, "The Bo family isn’t like ordinary families. You must always be vigilant and not give anyone a reason to laugh at you."
Every ti Wang Keru spoke, Anxi would lean on her mother’s back and nod, acting especially agreeable.
Wang Keru pulled her off her back. "Anxi, are you listening to what Mom is saying? Professor Bo has such excellent qualities, and he’s handso too. Where else would you find soone like him? You really need to take this seriously."
Anxi just "oh"-ed and nodded like a little chick.
Just as Wang Keru was about to say more, there was a knock at the door. It turned out to be Bo Xichen, who had arrived first with his mother to pay a visit, while Mr. Bo, Elder He, and Elder He’s wife were waiting and chatting in a private room at the hotel.
The eting of the families was no small matter, especially since the other party was the matriarch of Beicheng’s foremost family.
At that mont, Wang Keru wished the pigeon’s blood ruby on her finger were larger, more impressive, so her daughter wouldn’t lose face.
Fortunately, Wang Keru ca from a good background and her speech and manners were impeccable. She and Mrs. Bo seed to hit it off right away, like old friends. Wang Keru’s only worry was that, given the Gu family’s current situation, her daughter might have to endure so grievances.
But in the very next mont, Wang Keru was dumbstruck.
After Mrs. Bo finished speaking with Wang Keru, it was as if her son, Bo Xichen, didn’t exist. She also seed to wish that Wang Keru, the mother, would vanish on the spot, so she could have Anxi all to herself.
A servant brought a box of small pastries, and Mrs. Bo took it, pressing it into Anxi’s hands. "Xichen said you like these. The ones baked last night weren’t fresh anymore, so I had Xichen eat them. Today’s batch is well-baked and still crispy. Quick, try one and see if it’s good. If you like them, Mother Bo will make different kinds for you every day. You’re too thin..."
Anxi, who was usually quite a reserved person, couldn’t withstand such warmth and took a small bite.
While feeding Anxi, Mrs. Bo chatted with Wang Keru, "Beicheng is quite nurturing. I think it would be good for Anxi to stay in Beicheng for a while. I guarantee we’ll get her looking plump and rosy."
Wang Keru was flabbergasted.
Mrs. Bo continued, her tone as warm as a spring breeze, "Xichen isn’t usually busy. Let him accompany you to Qingcheng. Have Xichen handle all matters, big or small, for you. If he can’t sort them out, it just ans he’s useless, and he doesn’t need to bother coming back to Beicheng either."
Wang Keru remained dumbfounded.
Bo Xichen rubbed his forehead, feeling both exasperated and amused. Still, his heart couldn’t help but flutter a little—he had never seen his mother like soone so much; she was treating Anxi even more affectionately than if she were her own daughter.
Seeing they were silent, Mrs. Bo paused her hand slightly, then revealed a rather formidable deanor. "But rest assured, there’s nothing our Xichen can’t handle."
Anxi nodded like a little chick. "Bo Xichen is so capable."
A loving expression appeared on Mrs. Bo’s face. She continued feeding her little treasure and said to Wang Keru, "If Anxi says he’s capable, then he definitely is."
Wang Keru already felt as if her daughter no longer belonged to her. If Anxi refused to marry him one day, she feared the Bo family wouldn’t allow it!
Just then, another knock ca from the door.
Bo Xichen went to open the door. A servant whispered a few words to him, and he nodded.
When he returned, he said with a faint smile, "So people from Qingcheng wish to et us. It might be an elder from their family. Auntie, what are your thoughts?"
Wang Keru’s lips moved, but she simply shook her head.
Mrs. Bo put down the pastry in her hand and said coolly, "These people... can they just et us whenever they please?"
