The older brother felt like he was about to cough up blood, but he restrained himself when the old lady glanced at him.
Soon, the old man pulled Gu Anxi aside to play chess. Gu Anxi was far more willing to accompany the old man than to see her older brother’s dark expression.
The old lady called her son into the study. A servant brought a cup of aromatic tea, and the air filled with its pleasant fragrance as mother and son began to talk.
King Jingyao began with a forced smile, "Mom, don’t spoil her too much. I know you an well, wanting her around to keep company. But she’s so mischievous she’s even ddling in other people’s affairs. Min Xin is soone I’ve spent over ten years barely managing to keep in check."
He paused, then continued gravely, "What if Zhou Yu is truly set on breaking up with him? If Min Xin is pushed to desperate asures, it will be utter chaos. Your son won’t be able to enjoy such a leisurely life then."
The old lady’s eyes glead. "What, you really can’t handle one Min Xin? Are you actually planning to... live with him?"
"Mom, please don’t tease ," King Jingyao sighed. "The situation is quite complicated right now. If Min Xin unleashes all his lackeys, Mom, that’s not sothing I can suppress instantly."
The old lady knew all of this.
King Jingyao spoke again, a hint of disdain in his voice, "Min Xin raised his own dog, but now it looks to like that dog has beco an ungrateful traitor. Min Xin might not be able to control it."
He patted his trouser leg and said softly, "These things have to be handled gradually. Not like that little rascal, who just stirred everything into a ss."
The old lady looked at her son and raised an eyebrow. "Zhou Yu grew up with you. Are you content to let her live in such an ambiguous situation? As the legitimate wife, she’s always hidden at ho as if she’s just being kept. That Min Xin is truly outrageous! Besides, all the prestige he’s gained over the years was built on the Zhou Family’s support. If Zhou Yu doesn’t want to be with him anymore, he should let her go. If he’s unwilling, then he should give up his power and influence. How can there be such a perfect deal in this world where he gets to keep both his power and his wife?"
This struck a chord with the older brother. He sighed. "Zhou Yu has indeed suffered a lot over these years."
"And you’ve known it, watching her suffer all these years?" the old lady said, hitting the nail on the head. "You’re not as perceptive as your sister."
King Jingyao fell silent. Much later, he whispered, "I understand."
"It’s good that you understand," the old lady said decisively. "If you can’t handle that black-hearted Min Xin, it doesn’t an your sister can’t. That child is very capable!"
King Jingyao feigned annoyance. "Mother, that’s biased. Are you saying your son has no abilities?"
The old lady naturally praised him a few tis, and the atmosphere beca very pleasant. But when they left the study, the older brother’s expression turned grim again, his face still dark. "It’s getting late. I’ll take her ho."
"Is it late already?" The old man was reluctant to see her go.
Gu Anxi put down her chess piece and coaxed him, "I’ll co again tomorrow."
