The Old Madam of the Wang Family muttered, "That’s not necessarily true."
She added, "Those years in the past, Ke Ru hit plenty of walls at ho. I’m afraid she’s still resentful in her heart."
The Old Master of the Wang Family imdiately said, "That’s just won’s thinking. How could blood kinship be inferior to outsiders?"
The Old Madam thought for a bit, then gritted her teeth. "All right then, I’ll give it a try."
She did call right away; on the other end, Wang Keru picked up very quickly too. After mother and daughter exchanged a few polite words, Madam Wang then courteously invited her daughter to co ho and stay for a few days.
Wang Keru wasn’t stupid; the mont she heard it, she knew it was because of Anxi.
She knew all too well what her maiden family was like; they probably wanted to take back the shares they’d thrown out. She pretended not to know and only said she needed to discuss it with Gu Yuntian.
After hanging up, she looked at Gu Yuntian. "My mom called, said she wants to go back and stay a few days. I figure this has to do with Anxi. Yun Tian, what do you think we should do?"
She respected Gu Yuntian a great deal. Gu Yuntian thought it over; in the end, he still felt uneasy. "We should go stay in Jiangcheng for a bit. Anxi’s in poor health and still has to fight it out with that whole family. If we go, at least we can lend a hand. Especially you—back ho your words still carry so weight."
Wang Keru gave it so thought. "Okay. Then it’s settled, we’ll leave tomorrow. Oh right, what about Shen Wanqing’s mom? Should we give her so ti off to go back to Qingcheng and get that matter over and done with?"
Gu Yuntian smiled. "You can decide about that however you see fit."
He stroked his wife’s hand. "You’ve beco much easier to talk to now, not like before..."
Wang Keru shot her husband a sidelong glance and took a sip of tea. "What was I like before?"
Gu Yuntian cleared his throat lightly. "You were fine with everyone else, just a bit harsh on the servants."
Wang Keru burst right away. "How was I harsh? I just don’t like mingling and chatting with them, that’s all. What am I supposed to talk to them about, mahjong or fashion and jewelry?"
Gu Yuntian only laughed.
Wang Keru went on, "It’s that little brat you raised, Anxi—hasn’t she been thick as thieves with them since she was little? She treats Jinfeng and Shen Wanqing quite well. She used to give her own clothes to Shen Wanqing all the ti, said they were old ones she didn’t wear, but they were actually new, right? She doesn’t even like princess dresses and such, but she insisted you buy them, just so she could give them to Shen Wanqing. Who knew we were raising a white-eyed wolf."
Gu Yuntian was quite magnanimous. "Let’s not bring up the past. That child’s not bad now either, it’s just that she and our family don’t have that kind of fate. Keru, everyone’s temperant shapes their own path. In the end, she’s taken her lumps too."
Only then did Wang Keru feel a bit better. She added, "That’s true enough."
The couple discussed it for quite a while longer, then called in Shen Wanqing’s mother and personally explained everything to her. Chen Jinfeng was naturally both happy and grateful...
The next day, Gu Yuntian and Wang Keru first made a quick trip back to Qingcheng, then took their private jet to Jiangcheng in the afternoon.
Throughout all of this, they didn’t tell Gu Anxi.
At five thirty in the afternoon, the Wang Family turned out in full force at the airport to greet the Gu Yuntian couple with great fanfare. When they actually t, there were tears and exclamations of joy, as if they hadn’t seen each other for half a lifeti and had always been on excellent terms...
Wang Keru just pretended not to know anything and was in quite a good mood. In front of his in-laws, Gu Yuntian even walked back and forth a bit. "My legs are very nimble now."
The Old Master of the Wang Family stroked his beard, greatly pleased. The Old Madam’s eyes were brimming with tears as well. "Now that Yun Tian is fine, I can be at ease, Keru."
