On set, filming is like entering a mountain forest to ditate.
Zhou Yun pays little attention to outside news, either studying the script, staying on set, or reading books in the hotel.
In the crew, undercurrents still surge, friction is constant, but all is within controllable range, with no major conflicts arising.
All this is thanks to a few core mbers of the crew keeping the peace.
Saying that a crew is a worldly society is exactly what this implies.
If the big shots don’t act, no matter how big the commotion, within the grand scope of worldly society, it’s nothing but minor troubles.
One day, Su Yan found out from sowhere about "Luoyan" and Lew Qingqing’s situation, unexpectedly took the initiative to seek out Zhou Yun to talk about it.
"Isn’t ’Luoyan’ your company’s own production? Why didn’t they let you act in it?"
Su Yan starts off with a tone as if she has been familiar with Zhou Yun for a long ti, this overly familiar attitude makes Zhou Yun’s heart skip a beat, as if a bag of trash had fallen from the sky.
Zhou Yun gave her a strange look.
Su Yan gave her an even stranger look.
"Really? We’ve been filming together for so long, and you’re still caught up in those past issues?"
Zhou Yun is baffled: "Huh?"
Su Yan says, "Anyway, for the next while, we’re allies, right?"
"Wait, when did we beco allies?" Zhou Yun stops her urgently, "Su Yan, don’t misunderstand, I have no intention of making peace with you."
Su Yan curls the corner of her mouth, "You really are petty, aren’t you."
Zhou Yun feels speechlessly dumbfounded.
She originally thought Su Yan had truly changed, only to realize she’s still the sa as before, arrogant and unrestrained in her behavior.
Zhou Yun reminds her, "Miss Su Yan, you might not rember our first eting on the set of a show, where you took the opportunity to kick my face during a ga segnt. You might have forgotten that, but I haven’t."
Su Yan shrugs nonchalantly, "If only you weren’t against back then, preferring to side with that bitch Lew Qingqing, of course, I couldn’t help wanting to teach you a lesson. If you think you’ve suffered a loss, then I’ll let you kick back, how about that?"
Zhou Yun: "..."
Su Yan says: "Look, now it’s Lew Qingqing who has stolen your role. It’s not her first ti doing this; if she wants a role, she’ll get it by whatever ans necessary. I’m telling you, we’re allies, at least we have a common enemy now."
Zhou Yun gasps in realization.
She really hadn’t expected Su Yan to think that way.
"Our paths do not align; we do not plot together," Zhou Yun turns and walks away.
But Su Yan quickly catches up, grabbing Zhou Yun’s wrist.
"What’s the rush?" Su Yan says, "I haven’t finished talking to you yet."
Zhou Yun shakes off Su Yan’s hand, "Didn’t you get it? I don’t want to talk to you."
Su Yan: "You’ve got quite the temper, even bigger than mine."
"Su Yan, I don’t know what ga you’re playing, but I never ally myself with those I don’t like, so you needn’t waste your ti on any longer," Zhou Yun says, annoyed.
Su Yan shrugs, "Why? How is this wasting ti? The enemy of my enemy is my friend, don’t you understand such simple logic?"
Zhou Yun: "I have my own friends, why should I look for friends among the enemies of enemies?"
She turns to leave decisively.
Su Yan can’t help feeling frustrated and defeated.
"Zhou Yun! Don’t regret it!"
Zhou Yun curls her lip and walks away without looking back.
The enemy of an enemy can certainly be a friend, but it depends on the thod.
Enemies?
Zhou Yun certainly doesn’t see Lew Qingqing as an enemy. She was a step too slow in showing interest in "Luoyan" and lost the role to Lew Qingqing. Whose fault is that?
Why would Su Yan think she would dislike Lew Qingqing because of this?
When Zhou Yun t with Zhou Lan, she told him about it.
Zhou Lan: "I guess the person who gave her the news didn’t make it clear, leading her to believe you and Lew Qingqing were competing for the sa film. Such situations are pretty common in the industry. Everyone wants a good script, and there are those who co to blows over it. Openly and secretly vying for parts. Su Yan and Lew Qingqing have been rivals for years, notorious opponents, with so many classic battles. Hearing you’re up against Lew Qingqing for a part, Su Yan probably thought to recruit you to her side right away."
Zhou Yun: "What side?"
Zhou Lan just smiled.
Suddenly, she opened her handbag, pulled out a stack of A4 paper, and said, "Xiao Yun, I ca across a pretty good film script a few days ago."
"Film script?" Zhou Yun was a bit surprised.
"It’s not a blockbuster. The director is a newcor. He’s only made a short film before. This will be his first feature film, and it’s an art film," Zhou Lan explained.
"Art film?" Zhou Yun was even more astonished. "Is he looking for to act in it?"
"He’s not looking for you. I ca across the script and got a copy through so connections. If you’re interested, I can negotiate for you," Zhou Lan said.
Zhou Yun took the script.
"Do you really like it?" Zhou Yun asked.
Zhou Lan shook her head: "No, I wouldn’t say I like the script, but I suggest you check out the short film by this director. I’ve downloaded it, and it’s on this USB drive."
She handed the USB drive to Zhou Yun.
Zhou Yun said, "Let’s watch it now."
Zhou Yun opened her laptop, plugged in the USB drive, and opened the short film downloaded on it.
The first shot was of rain under the eaves.
The rain, pitter-pattering, fell to the ground.
The cara panned to a young girl’s face.
The girl sat at the doorstep, hugging her knees, her eyes as pure as the sea under a clear blue sky.
An immaculate beauty of a young girl overflowed the fra.
Zhou Yun was imdiately captivated.
Cinematography is the art of visuals, and a good shot shows signs of it from the very first fra.
The entire short film is very concise. The girl seems to be waiting for soone’s return, occasionally looking around curiously, then by evening preparing dinner, from chopping vegetables to cooking rice, each shot revealing a rustic beauty of life.
Finally, there was a noise at the door.
The girl showed a delighted expression, eagerly walking towards the door filled with anticipation.
The short film ended there.
A short film with virtually no story, but so captivating.
The whole film was beautifully shot, an aesthetic of nature and ho life.
"This was a comrcial the director made for a ho brand." After the short film ended, Zhou Lan finally spoke. "Could you tell that was just an advertisent?"
Zhou Yun shook her head in surprise.
That was just an ad?
Zhou Lan said, "The director actually has a background in photography. He used to live abroad and only returned to China a year ago. I was eting a friend when he happened to be involved in this comrcial campaign. Knowing I’ve been looking for projects lately, my friend recomnded this director to ."
