Wei Chang’an drove Chen Chuan all the way back to the residential area for Patrol Bureau families. As Chen Chuan was about to get out of the car, Wei Chang’an said, "Oh, right, I forgot to ask. Who’s your advisor?"
"Cheng Zitong."
"Cheng Zitong... It’s him?"
Wei Chang’an had a strange expression.
"What’s wrong? Does Brother Wei think he’s not a good fit?"
Wei Chang’an quickly shook his head and said seriously, "If the school assigned him as your advisor, then he must be suitable. I just didn’t expect it to be him. I always thought he was just the deputy head of the logistics departnt.
But that’s good, too. At least you won’t be short on training resources in the future. He’s the school’s number two guy when it cos to supplies, you know. Maybe Brother Wei will even have to ask you for a favor soday. Alright, I’m off!"
He waved to Chen Chuan, started the car, and slowly drove toward the other end of the road.
Chen Chuan, for his part, walked into an alley and was ho in no ti. Because he had called ahead, Yu Wan was waiting for him. She was very happy to see him back so early and fussed over him with concern. To keep her from worrying, Chen Chuan only told her the good things that had happened at school.
Yu Wan had sothing stewing on the stove, so after asking a few questions, she went back to her cooking. Nian Fuli had work at the Bureau, and his days off weren’t fixed, so he wouldn’t be back until evening. Chen Chuan went to the living room first and gave Ding Jiao a call, chatting for a bit. Then he spent a good while playing with his younger cousins, and at noon, they all had lunch together.
In the afternoon, he decided to make a trip to Quan’s House and bring the dicine to Lu Ke. He let Yu Wan know and then headed out.
On the way, he also made a detour to Weidong’s house. Seeing no one was inside and knowing it was a day off, he asked a neighbor who was ho and learned that Weidong had been busy moving things in and out lately. He involuntarily smiled, didn’t stay any longer, and headed straight for Quan’s House.
Coming out of the small alley, he saw a group of young children practicing their punches on a training ground. Lu Ke was patiently instructing them from the side, occasionally going over to correct their posture. Despite their young age, the children were practicing with ticulous form.
He involuntarily smiled and called out, "Brother Lu."
Lu Ke turned his head, and his face lit up with pleasant surprise when he saw who it was. "Brother Chen?" He cald the children around him and imdiately ran over, giving Chen Chuan a high-five. He then asked, curious and excited, "Brother Chen, what brings you here?"
Chen Chuan smiled and said, "It’s my day off today, so I ca to see you and Mr. Yu."
Lu Ke scratched his head. "Bad timing. Master is out. He’s been busy with sothing the last couple of days, not sure when he’ll be back." He then asked curiously, "You’ve been at Wuyi for a few days now. What’s it like? How do you feel about it?"
Chen Chuan said, "Well, so parts are just like I imagined, and so parts are different. But you can always learn sothing. Let’s find so ti to talk about it in detail later."
Lu Ke was envious. "I’m so jealous you get to study there."
Chen Chuan gestured forward and asked, "Where are all these kids from?"
Lu Ke explained, "They’re the children of the Iron Chain Gang mbers. Mr. Qi had them sent here to learn how to fight. That young guy who fought you last ti was asking about you, but I didn’t tell him anything."
Chen Chuan took off his satchel, pulled out the Training dicine Powder, and said, "Brother Lu, this is the Training-Opening Powder I bought for you at Wuyi."
Lu Ke said, embarrassed, "You still rembered."
Chen Chuan smiled. "Of course I have to pay you back for using yours. By the way, this powder is potent. They say it’s enough for two people, so don’t use too much at once."
Lu Ke said, "Okay, Brother Chen. Thank you."
Just then, Chen Chuan sensed sothing. He saw two burly n walk out of the building. They glanced at him a few tis, seemingly on guard, but when they saw him laughing and talking with Lu Ke, they went back inside.
Lu Ke said, "They’re from the Iron Chain Gang. They’re responsible for dropping off and picking up these kids. Oh, right, let finish this class first. Hang on." He apologized, went back to teach for about ten more minutes, and then let the children have free ti. Afterward, he returned and said, "Co on, Brother Chen, let’s go upstairs to talk."
The two went up to the top floor together. Lu Ke opened a bottle of soda, poured a glass for Chen Chuan and himself, and then eagerly started asking about Wuyi.
Chen Chuan gave him a general overview. He didn’t say much about the training, focusing mainly on the campus environnt. Lu Ke was captivated, seeming to want to know every single detail. He was especially inquisitive about Spring and Autumn Lake, asking about it nonstop.
He said wistfully, "In Jiaoshan, there’s only groundwater. No lakes, not even a stream. And that water doesn’t taste good—it’s bitter and astringent, with a strange, indescribable taste." But he didn’t seem to want to talk much about that place, stopping after a few sentences. He then asked, "By the way, are you still practicing that throwing technique I taught you?"
Chen Chuan said, "I practice it on the side when I have free ti, though it’s not easy to practice at school. But it’s very useful, so I won’t give it up."
’When I went to Fatty Guo’s place last ti, if I hadn’t had this Throwing Skill, I wouldn’t have been able to take down Zhai Wu so quickly, and it wouldn’t have been so easy to catch Moustache Chou. Besides, the previous owner of this body died from a thrown stone, so I want to learn more about this skill.’
He stayed there until past four o’clock before bidding farewell to Lu Ke and heading back. On his way back, as he passed the Changxiang Residential Area, he glanced up at the balcony but saw it was still empty. ’Well, we’re both at the sa school, so I’m bound to see him eventually,’ he thought. With that, he jogged the rest of the way ho.
That evening, Nian Fuli ca ho from work, and the whole family was finally together. While they were having dinner, Chen Chuan told him about the situation at school and also ntioned Wei Chang’an.
Nian Fuli snorted. "That Wei Oldhu, he actually has a good son."
Chen Chuan thought for a mont but decided not to ask about the mop incident. ’It’s between Nian Fuli and Wei Oldhu anyway,’ he figured. ’No need for to get involved.’
After spending the night at ho, he washed up and returned to school early the next morning. It was just past seven, and Cheng Zitong hadn’t arrived yet, so he started training by himself in the private training room.
After mastering the Breathing thod of Qi Breathing, he could feel that his punches were stronger and more powerful than before, and his control over his moves had beco much more fluid.
’Without a doubt, the Mutated Tendons and Ligants are a huge help. But this also ans the Mutated Organization is growing faster and faster. If I don’t find a way to restrain it, I’ll probably be in a dangerous situation very soon. I have to master Power as quickly as possible.’
Around eight o’clock, there was a knock on the door. He went to open it and saw that it was, indeed, Cheng Zitong. After a polite greeting, he welcod the man inside.
Cheng Zitong ca in, sat down on the sofa, and said, "First, there’s sothing I need to tell you."
He took a docunt out of his bag. "Registration for this year’s Weapon Permit selection exam is about to begin. However, because the number of slots is limited, the restrictions are very strict."
"First, you must have at least three important assignnt experiences with a rating of ’Excellent’ or higher. Second, the minimum requirent for applicants is to have mastered Power—it doesn’t matter if it’s Great Force or Small Force. And finally..."
His expression turned more solemn. "This certification exam is linked to the midterm and final exams. If you pass, you’ll be exempt from the midterms and finals for this academic year. But if you fail, you’ll be demoted to a Class B student. Besides that, there are so other requirents written down here. Take a look and decide for yourself if you want to take it."
Chen Chuan picked up the docunt, flipped through it a few tis, and looked up. "What is your opinion, Teacher?"
Cheng Zitong said, "I won’t make the decision for you. I’ll only explain the situation. In my personal opinion, this permit is very important. Very important. VERY important! If it were , I would do everything I could to get it!"
’Since you said it three tis, Teacher, it must be extrely important.’
Cheng Zitong continued, "Because the selection exam is held once every two years, it ans you’ll only get one chance at it while you’re at the school. If you don’t take it this ti, you’ll have to slowly accumulate ratings through external assignnts."
"Assuming you can consistently get assignnts and everything goes smoothly, you might be able to qualify in about two years. But if you can get the Weapon Permit first, wouldn’t it be better to use the ratings from those extra assignnts to go for an Armor Certificate?"
Chen Chuan agreed with this reasoning. The explanation in the docunt was similar to what Wei Chang’an had said. After obtaining this permit, one could carry a weapon on their person, and it was valid worldwide.
He could also imagine that when it ca to assignnts, being ard versus unard were two completely different things in terms of efficiency. If a client saw you had a Weapon Permit, they would definitely prioritize you. And the more assignnts you completed with a high success rate, the more you would be chosen.
It was safe to say that a student with a Weapon Permit would definitely be able to leave their peers and even so upperclassn in the dust. This opportunity was absolutely not to be missed!
He looked up, his eyes serious, and said, "Teacher Cheng, this permit, I will find a way to get it."
