Chapter 1259: Landmass

Khan felt on the verge of falling in love all over again. He also had different urges that the situation didn’t allow him to pursue, but that simple, innocent stillness was enough.

It was odd, really. Khan had spent years improving his status for various reasons, reaching the very peak of the Global Army and the highest level below the Emperor inside the Thilku Empire.

The search for better sources of information about the Nak had been at the core of that magnificent political career. Still, Khan had also pursued promotions and superior statuses for Monica. Khan had needed that to gain her parents’ approval, and she even expected him to seize that authority, even if he didn’t look for it.

Instead, those things had no meaning for Liiza. She had learned them to serve her species but had never liked politics in the first place. At her core, she belonged to the wilds, flying freely through the sky or sleeping on snowy peaks.

At once, Khan knew that Liiza would never consider those additional details. No matter what Khan wore, which roles he played, or what he became, Liiza would only look at his heart, seeing the playful boy she had never stopped loving.

That understanding was strangely freeing. Khan had mitted heinous acts, and his status didn’t change. Once a King, forever a King, but the weight of that responsibility didn’t matter with Liiza.

Despite the couple’s power and status, Khan and Liiza could behave as simple kids in love, unbound by worldly obligations. Nothing else existed when they were together. Nothing else needed to exist to make them happy.

“[Did I already tell you that I love you]?” Khan asked.

“[Yes],” Liiza muttered, “[But never stop saying it].”

Khan wanted to add a joke, but Liiza sealed his lips with a kiss. The gesture tried to bee passionate, but Liiza suddenly raised her head, refocusing on drawing the red marks.

“[I really want to distract you],” Khan blurted.

“[I’m having it hard, too],” Liiza revealed. “[I really want to reward my protective husband for taking care of his family, so let me finish quickly. I’ll jump on you as soon as I’m done].”

Only two weeks of flight separated Khan’s ships from Coravis, and even less if Khan took Nott Station’s nearby quadrants into consideration. Yet, he eventually decided not to contact anyone, planning to avoid politics and involving his forces until it was unavoidable.

Luckily, the Kros understood Khan’s message and stopped chasing him. It was unclear whether and what information they shared with the Global Army and the Niqols, but the remaining part of the trip ended up being peaceful, and Khan focused on enjoying it.

Politics would return soon enough, as well as countless updates and meetings that would force Khan to take action. So, he immersed himself in what was left of that holiday before the universe demanded his attention again.

Khan’s forces had flagged his ship when he asked his Uncle’s help to fly through regulated areas, so he met no problem approaching Coravis.

Actually, once the blue planet finally appeared in sight, a series of militarized ships left the orbit to reach Khan’s vessel and create a proper escort around his fleet.

That treatment was vastly different from what the crew had experienced until now. Of course, only Khan, Ilman, Liiza, and Jenna truly witnessed the change, but the event left an unmistakable mark on the journey anyway.

The time for hiding and worrying about anything that entered the scanners’ range was over. The danger was no more. After almost eight months away, Khan was finally home, regaining all the safety his mighty force could offer.

The fleet reached Coravis’ orbit and entered it, heading for the arrangement of sea stations. However, Khan changed direction, bringing all the ships toward a different part of the planet that his forces had mostly left alone.

Coravis only had two points of interest in the middle of its boundless sea. One featured the arrangements of sea stations around what was left of the Great Old One’s carcass, while the other involved a pletely different project.

Something eventually appeared on the horizon. A yellow-brown line split the sea and sky, expanding as far as the eye could see. More details became visible as the ships grew closer, revealing an artificial but perfectly natural environment.

Khan’s forces had sent artificial soil to Coravis nonstop, and the process was still ongoing. Building a proper and functioning landmass wasn’t easy, but time and money could acplish it, especially since the planet itself provided some help.

The terraforming project had only created a quadrant-sized landmass for now, but woods of tall trees flourished in two different spots, vouching for its livability. The place didn’t have anything else outside of that vegetation. It was also still small, but it was better than nothing.

Khan coordinated with the nearby ships to set landing points that wouldn’t hurt the landmass. Abraham had left instructions, so part of the fleet descended toward areas without vegetation, stopping on the sandy ground.

Next, Khan opened the ship’s door remotely but didn’t move. As much as he yearned for natural mana and the gravity of an actual planet, the landmass wasn’t meant for him. It was a gift that he could finally deliver.

“Jenna,” Khan called, glancing at the green figure standing at some distance to his right, glued to one of the screens above the control desk.

Jenna wasn’t alone in her engrossment. Ilman also studied the screens while holding her hand. Liiza was sitting on Khan with Tamara, but they had joined Ilman and Jenna in their stupor and interest in the scenery captured by the scanners.

“I left the channel open,” Khan explained when Jenna looked at him, nodding at the control desk. “Why don’t you go take a look with the other Nele?”

Khan had never seen Jenna speechless in his life, but that time seemed to have e. The Nele appeared confused and stunned, limiting herself to a weak nod before heading for the bridge’s exit, dragging Ilman with her.

“She forgot to warn the others,” Khan sighed jokingly, leaning forward to take Tamara’s shoulders. “Why don’t you give the announcement instead?”

Tamara exchanged a look with Khan before leaning toward the control desk. She glanced at Khan again, only for a nod to unfold in her view and give her the courage she needed.

“Ehm,” Tamara voiced before switching to her native language. “[Uncle Khan said that the Nele can get down first].”

The announcement could sound suspicious, but the fleet’s scanners eventually captured something that dispersed any doubt and hesitation. Jenna and Ilman had landed on the landmass, and the former only took a few steps before leaving the Niqols’ hand to fall to her knees, unable to stop her tears.
