Steward’s POV
"Gerald Larson, my good buddy. I swear I had no clue she was your daughter."
I was standing in the corner of the social club’s reception area, making this call for what felt like the tenth ti. I had been trying to apologize to Gerald, but the man simply wouldn’t listen. All this drama just because I’d flirted with his daughter, not knowing who she was. Yet he insisted on giving a moral lecture about respecting won regardless of who they were. Finally, he told never to call him again; our friendship of many years was over.
This only fueled my anger toward Joseph. My son was a complete idiot. I’d lost a potentially valuable ally because this fool had hired Gerald’s spoiled daughter without telling . That boy needed to be taught a lesson.
I took a deep breath; I was here to et other friends and needed to stay composed.
Just as I was turning to head toward the club’s dining room, I spotted a group of won entering. Each one prettier than the last. This club had certainly beco livelier recently. Looking closer, I recognized two of them—one was Eleanor, and another was my beloved son’s girlfriend. Now this was interesting. Who were the others? I needed to find out.
I walked into the dining room and spotted my forr Beta Elton sitting with his daughter; he was one of the friends I was eting. His daughter was plain-looking, but I knew Joseph had dated her a few tis and that she was infatuated with my foolish son. She certainly wouldn’t be pleased to see his new romance with another woman; perhaps she could be useful.
I approached their table and greeted them.
"Elton, and this lovely young lady. Sophia, would you care to join us?" I said, greeting them.
"No, Alpha Steward, I’m just waiting for my friends," Sophia smiled, speaking in that spoiled little princess tone of hers.
"What a sha!"
"How is Joseph doing, Alpha Steward?" Elton asked .
"Getting worse by the day. Quite the ungrateful one, Elton," I comnted.
"Oh, Alpha Steward, I don’t know what’s gotten into Joseph since he started hanging around with those won over there," Sophia said, pointing to the group of won I’d seen arriving.
"Is that so?" I asked with interest. "Do you know who they are? I only recognize Eleanor and Ava."
"They’re nothing but opportunists!" Sophia said jealously. "That Eleanor from the Blood Moon Pack is a crude woman. That Ava, I don’t know how she bewitched Joseph. The blonde one is Caroline, Eleanor’s friend and Alpha Draven’s assistant, and they had a thing. But my friend Ella won Alpha Draven back. The redhead is dating Beta Ryan, and I don’t know the shortest one; she’s new. The other one is married to Luke; she’s Beta Ryan’s assistant."
"So they’re troublemakers?" I probed.
"They’re worthless!" Sophia emphasized.
"Darling, I’m sorry, but as a father, I’m concerned. You know how much I wished for you to be my daughter-in-law." I saw her smile grow brighter. "If there’s anything I can do to help, just tell ."
"I just wish Joseph would leave that gold-digger and realize I’m the woman he truly wants," Sophia said, her eyes gleaming.
"I can help you with that," I answered.
"Don’t give my daughter false hope, Alpha Steward," Elton told with a slightly cautious tone, but I didn’t care. Sophia was the perfect punishnt for my ungrateful son.
"Don’t worry, Elton." I smiled at my Beta. One way or another, I’d use his daughter to get to my son.
"Oh, the girls are here! Goodbye, Dad, goodbye, Alpha Steward!" Sophia smiled as she left. I understood Joseph; Ava was a stunningly beautiful woman, while Sophia was just a plain-looking little girl and a spoiled brat at that.
I sat with my friends but couldn’t help watching that table of beauties. They were attracting quite a few envious glances. When I saw Ava get up to go to the restroom, I quietly made an excuse and followed her. This was a perfect opportunity. As I passed Sophia’s table, I caught her eye and signaled to her. She was smart enough to follow.
"Sophia, stay alert. That Ava has been eyeing ; I’m sure she’s interested. Make good use of what you’re about to see."
Sophia nodded and hid herself.
When Ava ca out of the bathroom, I grabbed her arm and pressed her against the wall.
Anyone looking from a distance would think we were being intimate, though she was trying to escape my grip at the ti.
But she was just a wolfless Oga, hardly different from an ordinary human. I had no trouble restraining her movents.
"We et again!" I smiled, "And now no one will interrupt us."
"Interrupt what? Excuse ." She tried to push away, but I didn’t budge. "Let go!"
"Ava, you don’t need to play hard to get. I know you’re interested in ." I said, leaning closer. "I know what won like you want."
"You’re insane. Get away from ."
I grabbed her, attempting to kiss her lips, but she turned her face away.
I felt a hand on my shoulder pulling back.
"Didn’t you hear the lady?" I heard a deep voice behind and turned to see Beta Jared.
He was my son’s Beta, having taken over Elton’s position. Jared was my son’s loyal subordinate who helped him with many pack matters. He was a faithful young man who rarely went out carousing with my son since he got a mate and children. I hadn’t expected to run into him here today.
"She knows ," I said dismissively.
"He’s harassing . Can you help ?" Ava asked Beta Jared.
"Of course, miss." Beta Jared pulled away from her, still holding onto , and asked her, "Would you like to contact Alpha Joseph to handle this?"
"No, I just don’t want him near again."
"I’ll take care of it." Beta Jared pulled forward. "This way."
Beta Jared took aside and spoke respectfully but firmly. "Alpha Steward, please control yourself. Though you are our forr Alpha, this is no way to treat a woman. Please refrain from making further advances toward Ava."
"Jared, have you forgotten who I am?" I frowned at him.
"I have not forgotten, Alpha Steward. That is precisely why I hope you’ll demonstrate the dignity and character befitting an Alpha," Beta Jared’s voice remained respectful, but his attitude was resolute.
As I was leaving, I ran into Sophia, who had been waiting outside.
"Alpha Steward, what happened? I saw Beta Jared take you away."
"That little woman played the victim when she saw Jared. I risked my life for you, girl," I said in the friendliest tone I could muster. "I hope you’ll make good use of it."
"Alpha Steward, I won’t disappoint you," Sophia looked excited. "Look at the photos I took."
She showed pictures on her phone that would make anyone think they were of two lovers eting in the hallway. These photos were enough to drive my annoying son crazy and keep him away from for good.
"Excellent, child. Hurry, before she speaks to him," I instructed.
"Leave it to !"
Sophia bounced away. Today’s visit to the social club had been quite productive.
"Let’s see, my dear son, if you understand now that I have more power than you, I can do whatever I want," I muttered to myself.
As I left, I couldn’t help wondering how this little episode would unfold.
