A muscular boy with golden pupils stood there, smirking with an irritating confidence.
"What?" I asked coldly.
"I'm Zephyr," he said, his tone casual. "Nice to et you."
I blinked. Slowly.
Why was he introducing himself?
I already knew who he was. He was one of the people I had been keeping an eye on after all.
"So?" My voice remained cold.
I stared at him in suspicion.

"Nothing." Zephyr just shrugged. "Just wanted to introduce myself."
"Why?" I was confused.
My suspicion increased.

"Well… I'll be taking that number one rank from you soon." He grinned, his voice filled with arrogance.
I stared at him blankly.

"Is that so?" My tone was completely indifferent.
"Yeah, so don't get too comfortable up there." Zephyr chuckled.
"Oh?" I tilted my head slightly "And how exactly do you plan on doing that?"
"Simple. I'm stronger than you." Zephyr smirked.

Then I scoffed.
Did this guy just wake up and decide to be delusional today?
I was confident that no one except Amyra could defeat in the first year at least.
"It's just a matter of ti." Zephyr's confidence didn't decrease even by a bit.
"You've fought before?" I sighed, rubbing my temples.
"Nope." He responded casually.
"You've seen fight?"
"Not really."
"Then what exactly makes you think you're stronger than ?" I asked him, genuinely curious.
"Because I'm ." Zephyr shrugged.
I stared at him. He stared back, completely shaless.
"I don't have ti for this." I rolled my eyes. Before I could walk away, Zephyr spoke again.
"Tell you what, Nyx," he said. "When I do take the number one rank, I'll even give you honour to be my friend."
"I'm generous like that."
I paused.
This guy should be a codian.

I didn't respond to him and just walked away, ignoring him.
As I made my way toward the dorms, I took a detour through one of the academy's many courtyards.
It was a habit.
The main path was always too crowded, and I had no interest in dealing with the noise of first-years acting like they owned the place.
Then, as I passed by one of the academy's ancient statues, I heard sothing—

I got curious and decided to see what was going on.
I peeked from behind a large tree.
On a bench a few steps ahead of I saw two people.
One boy and one girl.

I thought I stumbled into so forbidden knowledge I was not supposed to witness.

Who even did this kind of thing in the academy? Wasn't this place for training? To get stronger?

With that I walked back towards the dorms again, deciding to never take that route ever again.
I soon arrived in front of the dorm.
I walked inside.
At the dorm cafeteria, I spotted two familiar faces—Lucien and Seles.
Lucien was another target I have been keeping an eye on.
But he was an idiot through and through.
As for Seles…
I didn't know why, but she disgusted .
Everyti she greeted and smiled at , I felt disgusted.
She noticed and smiled. "Good evening, Nyx."
I nodded slightly and sat down at an empty table. I didn't have any intention to talk with her.
Seles didn't bother trying to talk to either.

I preferred it that way.
I ordered my regular al.
The food arrived quickly.
I ate quietly while I overheard Lucien and Seles' conversation.
At first, it was just the usual nonsense.
Lucien was saying sothing about becoming student council president and changing many things.
Sothing about "If I was the student council president, I would make all cafeteria als free."
That Lucien guy really is a fool.
Like he could beco student council president.
The rules to beco one were simple.
One needed to be ranked one student of their year to be even considered as candidates.
And as long as I am here, he can forget about becoming rank one.
Then there is Amyra as well.
Sotis I can't even understand how this idiot is related to her.
She is peak of gracefulness and strong and he on the other hand is just plain stupid.
I can guess why Amyra doesn't associate with him.
He couldn't even recognise while he was being played with by that blonde.
Then I heard sothing interesting—
"Amyra and Alden are sparring."
I blinked.

That guy is sparring with Amyra.
Alden was strong, but in front of Amyra, he didn't have even the slightest of chance.
Amyra was pretending to be a mage. But I had seen it closely in our match.
She was anything but a traditional mage.
She knew how to fight in close combat.
It will be fun to watch.

Just as I was considering, Seles' voice ca again.
"I overhead her, she… planning to… beat Alden…"
Her words weren't entirely clear, but I got the gist.
Amyra was planning to beat the hell out of that guy?
Now this is sothing, I had to see.

Just then a few more people arrived.
I knew all of them.
They were other top ten students who were always with Seles and that Aziel guy.
All of them conveniently showing up at the sa ti.
I frowned.
That wasn't normal.
Seles smiled, pleased with herself.
…Did she call them here on purpose?
But why?
What's her motive?
Well it doesn't matter. It's none of my business.
I quickly finished eating and followed them from a bit distance toward the training grounds.
Seles noticed but didn't say anything.
She just opened the door to the training hall as we were greeted with a scene that shocked most of us.
"What the hell?"
