__

Alden scanned his supre ability.

Most of his other sub-skills were the sa.

Still, he decided to check them.

After going through his previous sub-skills, he found nothing had changed within them.

They were as he had seen before when he broke through Apprentice Rank.

Then his gaze shifted towards the newly added sub-skill.

Traumatic Inheritance.

Just the na was enough for him to get an idea about the skill.

Still, he decided to check it out.

He focused on it as a short system window showing its details appeared in front of him.

[7. TRAUMATIC INHERITANCE]

If the user kills an enemy with their own hands, they may absorb a random skill, technique, or mastery from the target. However, doing so will also transfer a core mory of that being's deepest trauma. The user must relive this trauma as if it were their own—either enduring it or being broken by it. The user will not be given a reward for breaking through the limit if this skill is used.

__

Alden scanned the details word by word to see if he understood the skill effect.

According to the description, he could absorb a skill, stat or technique in exchange for inheriting the trauma of the enemy he defeated.

Honestly, that made him more confused.

Alden frowned.

What about beasts? Monsters?

Could sothing without self-awareness even have trauma?

Was the skill restricted only to sentient beings?

The question lingered, but in his gut, he didn't know the answer unless he tried it.

He also understood that the skill was the reason he'd experienced Gravius's pain.

This was how he'd gained spear mastery.

The skill was broken, but so was the cost.

Inheriting trauma was a heavy word.

Trauma wasn't just sothing you saw. It was sothing you felt.

To inherit ant more than mory—it ant imrsion.

Living the pain. The fear. The madness.

And honestly sowhat getting influenced by those emotions as well.

After experiencing Gravius's mories, Alden felt the shift.

He hadn't beco a completely deranged person like Gravius. He was still the sa Alden, but his own emotions had changed slightly.

They were slightly quieter now. Colder, maybe.

His view about the world has also changed slightly.

He himself was feeling slightly detached.

How he brushed past the deaths of Yuna and Mark was probably also influenced by it.

They had mattered. They still mattered.

But so part of him had simply... moved on.

Alden understood it, but he didn't try to change it.

It was necessary.

If it was him, he would have blad himself for the deaths of those children, which he still did.

His forr self might've been shattered.

But now?

He only felt the weight of necessity.

Maybe it was wrong. Maybe it wasn't.

But Alden wasn't going to waste ti on regret.

Not anymore.

He would move forward.

Even if he had to carry other people's pain to do it.

After checking everything he needed.

His thoughts turned back to the scene he saw after his death.

He was sure he had died.

Gravius had definitely pierced his heart.

He himself had felt life slowly slipping away.

But sohow he t his mother. Soone who had left him in that hell of a family for years.

But from what he saw, she wasn't gone for any reason.

She seed to be imprisoned sowhere.

But Alden had felt it.

She was strong.

Even in that chained state, the power emitting out of her was more than Alaric.

He couldn't exactly deduce how powerful she was, as she didn't emit her strength intentionally.

But just from the passive aura emitting out of her, he understood she was strong.

She had reversed his death.

He didn't understand how she did it. But sohow he ca back from near death.

But one thing confused him.

If she could bring him back from death, why or how did he die in the original novel?

Why wasn't Alden in the original novel saved?

What was different?

Or was it another plot hole within the novel?

Anyway, thinking about it won't get answers.

A knock at the door pulled him from his thoughts.

Three soft taps.

Not forceful. But deliberate.

Alden turned.

Huh?

Who is it now?

His instincts didn't flare—no killing intent, no malice. Just a familiar presence, faint but unmistakable.

He moved to the door. His hand resting on the handle.

As he opened it, a cool breeze greeted him, carrying the scent of rain and sothing faintly sweet—like lilacs.

There she stood.

Amyra.

Her white hair was slightly dishevelled.

The strands clinging to her cheeks as if she'd run the whole way.

Her eyes—those bright, stormy violet eyes—were now wide with worry.

Not the kind of worry born from pity or fear.

This was sothing deeper. Sharper. Almost frantic.

What happened?

Why's she here?

And why is she looking at like that?

Her hands curled into fists at her sides.

She was drenched, probably due to the rain outside. Her wet clothes clung to her body.

The mont their eyes t, sothing in her expression cracked—like she was holding back tears, rage, or both.

Alden blinked.

He hadn't ever seen her with those expressions.

It had been so ti since he beca her friend, and this was the first ti he had seen her bearing such expressions.

Why?

Then, without a single word, she stepped forward and threw her arms around him.

Alden froze.

The embrace wasn't gentle. It was tight. Desperate. As if confirming he was really there.

Her arms wrapped around him like a lifeline.

Her wet body pressing close against his—but even soaked by rain, she radiated warmth.

Her fra trembled against his, and he could feel the uneven rhythm of her breaths brushing against his neck.

Her fingers clutched the fabric of his shirt like she was afraid he'd vanish if she let go.

Her voice didn't co.

Only silence.

But in that silence,

Alden felt the weight of sothing unspoken—like a storm she was holding inside.

Then—finally—her voice ca.

Broken. Barely above a whisper.

"Thank God… you're okay…"

The dam burst. She couldn't maintain her expressions anymore.

Her voice cracked as she said it, and suddenly, she was sobbing into his chest.

Quiet at first, then louder.

Choked gasps. Wet breaths.

Raw emotion flooding out like it had been building for far too long.

She didn't let go. If anything, she held him tighter—like the world might fall apart if she loosened her grip.

Alden stood there, arms slightly raised in hesitation, unsure whether to comfort her… or ask the hundred questions now flooding his mind.

But at that mont, he didn't move.

He just let her cry.

And for so reason, that silence between them felt heavier than any battlefield.
