Alden's Pov
"I would love to see your expression, Cedric." I spoke to Cedric as I looked at him calmly "When you get beaten by a rat, that is."
"You dare…" Cedric looked at for a mont before shouting so normal third rate villain dialogues. I found it amusing how a person can be so easy to trigger.
I was waiting for him to attack imdiately but surprisingly he held himself back. His gaze wandered to the VIP section.
I felt curious too as I also looked in that direction wanting to see what he was looking at. But there was no one there..
'was he perhaps waiting for soone'
I soon understood who he was waiting for as I saw my father walking towards the VIP section but he was not alone as he was with a beautiful woman.
The woman's shining blonde hair mixed with her warm smile made her look kind. But I knew better than to be fooled by so fake smile.
'Those with that kind of smile are always the most dangerous after all.'
The woman was Isolde, the second wife of my father and also the mother of my archnesis standing in front of .
They soon took a seat in the luxurious VIP section. I could see Isolde looking towards the arena as she waved towards Cedric with that warm smile of hers. Cedric also waved back to her with a silly smile.
Just as I was observing their wholeso interaction I felt a sharp gaze pointed at from the frontmost spectators seat.
'Why wasn't she in the VIP area?' I couldn't help but think as I saw Seles sitting there beaming with a calculating smile. As if she also felt my gaze she looked at and gave a thumbs up mumbling sothing softly.
I focused trying to hear what she was saying but instead of her soft voice I heard a loud rugged voice of Cedric. "Done gawking around, rat?" I could feel impatience in his voice as if eager to show off to his parents.
Before I could reply to his snarky comnt the judge signaled the start of the duel. I quickly pulled out my trusted sword from my storage ring. I had taken extra care to disguise my sword to look as ordinary and plain as possible.
Cedric didn't take out any weapon as he lunged towards bare handed. I felt a bit surprised but still didn't let my guard down.
And true to my suspicions a pitch black sword appeared in his hands as if absorbing the very light around it.
'So that's his special ability' I quickly analysed 'well it doesn't look that strong'
He attacked in a simple vertical slash as I could clearly see the attack as I dodged it with a slight step to the side. The sword brushed past my clothes with a breeze.
"pfft..Is that all you can do?" I taunted Cedric intentionally wanting to make him lose his control.
And true to my intentions Cedric lost his control fuming with anger. "You Fu*er how dare you mock " he shouted, attacking more wildly.
His attacks were without any rhythm or any technique, filled with pure brute force.
I also started attacking him, activating the first technique of my sword art- Flowing strike, circulating my energy according to technique as I felt my bond with my sword deepen as a cooling spread throughout my body. As I kept clashing with him waiting for a perfect mont to strike.
Just as we had exchanged nearly fifteen or so strikes I got my chance as I attacked his exposed side with an attack of my own.
Cedric was surprised by my counterattack but he was still a minor level higher than so he reacted quickly as he rolled towards the other side, my sword slightly grazing him.
I quickly capitalised the mont Cedric was on ground as I attacked again but Cedric had deflected my attack with his sword. I was pushed back by Cedric as he quickly got up taking advantage of it.
Cedric's expressions were twisted with fury as he couldn't believe how I , who was a minor level lower than him, was pushing him back. His body was riddled with small injuries due to our previous clash. My body was not so good either as I felt a huge strain on my body due to all stat increase by my sword art.
'I had to finish it quickly'
"You've got so skill,huh?" Cedric said with a twisted grin. "But this is where it's going to end."
Cedric attacked again but this ti his sword vanished before reaching .
I felt a ominous sensation but before I could react his sword appeared again aiming for my neck. I was barely able to react by rolling to the side as his sword attacked again leaving a huge scar on my back.
My blood kept dripping on the ground as I pushed myself up. The pain was manageable but I didn't know how long my body could bear as I was reaching my limit soon.
'I am going to finish it with the next attack' I decided. I quickly got into a stance as I poured all the montum I gathered in my sword with all the mana I could muster as my sword started glowing in red colour as I slowly slashed with one fluid movent.
Cedric, sensing sothing, tried to get out of the trajectory of the attack but for so reason he couldn't as if stuck to the ground. A shockwave erupted from my slash slamming straight into Cedric.
The shockwave sent him flying across the arena like a ragdoll before he crashed into the wall falling unconscious. His was bleeding profusely as his maid quickly ran and poured a healing portion in his mouth.
My condition was even worse as I could barely stand as I knelt on the ground with support of my sword. My eyes blurred due to all the bloodloss.
The whole stadium went silent before a soft giggling sound broke the silence.
All eyes turned to Seles, who was giggling softly with a bright smile and amused expression.
"Well, that was entertaining," she said lightly as she made the sa thumbs up gesture as she did before.
"Alden Draven is the winner" The judge declared quickly, snapping out of his daze.
As soon as the judge announced my victory I took out a healing potion from my storage ring and gulped it down in one go as I felt my body heal rapidly.
"I won" I whispered softly as a satisfied smile appeared on my face unconsciously.
