Before he passed away, Li Laoliu was the village’s only snake catcher. Usually, he would catch poisonous snakes and sell them in the town. Although so snakes are protected animals, the villagers did not have the concept of protected species.

Unfortunately, he also succumbed to the epidemic and died a few days ago.

Now, his two sons are in the village’s isolation area. Director Wei and the village cadre hurried to find Li Laoliu’s sons to get the snake dicine in hopes of saving Professor Zhang.

"Village chief, my dad had lots of snake dicine, but I’m not sure how effective they are," said the man in his thirties.

He is Li Laoliu’s eldest son, Li Dazhong. When the other villagers were being isolated, he and his wife were also isolated. Though he was initially saddened by his father’s passing, he has since moved on.

However, he is a man afraid of death, always feeling that his father’s constant snake catching brought karma upon him, leading to his infection and death.

Upon rushing to the old house halfway up the mountain, inside, Director Wei and the new village chief saw many snake skins hanging inside, left behind by Li Laoliu.

As Li Dazhong fetched his father’s snake dicine, so were for ingestion, while others were for application on wounds.

"What kind of poisonous snake bit Professor Zhang?" Li Dazhong asked.

"Heard it was a triangular viper with three fang marks."

Viper?

Li Dazhong, having followed his father for a long while, knew vipers are highly venomous. His father had caught many, both poisonous and non-poisonous, and had even been bitten by them but treated himself with snake dicine, never using anti-venom serum.

Li Dazhong gathered several antidotes for snake venom and hurried back to the village committee with Director Wei and the village chief.

Professor Zhang was now unconscious, bleeding profusely from the wound, unable to be stopped. The toxin had destroyed his platelets, preventing blood clotting, and his wound had turned black.

Upon seeing Director Wei return, Li Dazhong anxiously said to Professor Zhang, "These are the dicines my dad used for snake-catching. I don’t know if they’ll work?"

"Let’s definitely give them a try."

At this point, rushing to Guiyang’s big hospital for anti-venom serum treatnt was unlikely to be possible.

If the dicines could buy so ti, maybe there was hope.

Li Dazhong sprinkled snake dicine powder onto Professor Zhang’s wound, which seed to slow the bleeding.

Could it really be effective?

Li Dazhong didn’t know, but he felt it was too late.

When bitten by a poisonous snake, the venom must be squeezed out as soon as possible, followed by administering or consuming the snake dicine.

"These are snake dicine pills my dad used before; they should work. Professor Zhang should take them."

Just then, Han Dexi said, "Director Wei, I sent soone to find Doctor Ye. Maybe he can cure Professor Zhang."

Doctor Ye?

Could Ye Qiu really treat this too?

Soon, Director Wei thought, since in Jinling he cures all sorts of diseases, then snake venom shouldn’t be a problem.

"I nearly forgot about him; where is he now?"

"He should be checking on old granny."

When the Chinese dicine doctor from Jinling Traditional Chinese dicine Hospital ca looking for Ye Qiu, Ye Qiu had to go down the mountain, initially planning to let Zhou Wenting stay with the old granny.

But Zhou Wenting and Ma Wenwen hurriedly followed Ye Qiu down the mountain.

"Doctor Ye, can you really treat Professor Zhang’s condition?" Ma Wenwen asked curiously.

Ye Qiu remained silent.

As he arrived at the village committee, seeing many gathered there, they hurriedly stepped aside to let him through. Inside, he saw Professor Zhang lying there.

Professor Zhang appeared to be in his forties, wearing a pair of gold-rimd glasses, but his face was now darkened, showing that the venom’s toxins were spreading throughout his bloodstream.

This venom is a type of enzy that thickens and even coagulates the blood, causing the skin to darken.

Looking at Professor Zhang, it was evident he had been bitten by a highly venomous viper. In less than an hour, he could be dead.

"Doctor Ye, how is Professor Zhang?" Director Wei asked urgently.

"He probably won’t last an hour," Ye Qiu stated.

The surrounding dical experts and researchers’ faces imdiately changed.

They could see it too.

"Why didn’t you take necessary precautions earlier?" Ye Qiu asked.

These people were solely focused on locating the source of the virus outbreak, without considering the precautions.

"Doctor Ye, is there any hope for Professor Zhang?" Han Dexi inquired.

"With here, he won’t die. But you all should step outside first." After having the people leave, Ye Qiu began treating Professor Zhang.

Given his situation, the snake venom had spread throughout his body, and if it reached his heart, it would be more troubleso.

Director Wei was slightly excited at the news, hurriedly ushering the others out of the tent.

It was apparent that this Professor Zhang was quite bold.

Once everyone had left, Ye Qiu placed his hand on Zhang’s body and began absorbing the snake venom, which took nearly half an hour.

After withdrawing his hand, Ye Qiu saw Professor Zhang’s blackened skin gradually fade, his blood circulation returning to normal, though he might still feel sowhat dizzy.

This dizziness was common after a snakebite; just monts ago, Zhang had felt groggy, even hallucinatory. Without the intervention of a thirty-sothing dical expert, he might have succumbed to a slow death under the tornt of pain and hallucinations.

When Ye Qiu erged from the tent, Ma Wenwen hurriedly asked, "How is Professor Zhang?"

"He’s fine now. Rest tonight, and he’ll be well by tomorrow. He should be just a bit groggy upon waking." As the dical experts rushed inside to examine him, they found his blood pressure, heart rate, and other vitals all stabilized.

This surprised the dical staff and attending physicians imnsely.

What thod did the young man use to heal him?

They didn’t understand, but Professor Zhang was indeed out of danger.

Now, knowing there are many venomous snakes on the mountain, the researchers and dical experts would likely be wary of ascending without taking proper precautions, lest they risk another snakebite. Even though Doctor Ye could provide treatnt, luck might not always be on their side.
