In laughter all that is evil cos together, but is pronounced holy and absolved by its own bliss.

Jammy spoke about hatred towards the gutterborns.

Those who think that they don’t deserve love are easiest to hate. They were Jammy’s words and such words resonated inside the Halocrats.

They resonated with them so much that they...

"Pfft..."

"Hahahaha!"

Laughed out loud.

The Cathedral echoed in their laughter and only the Halocrats were laughing.

The Gutterborns were simply standing as they had forgotten the last ti they laughed.

The Commoners couldn’t do anything so they stood motionless.

Jammy heard their laughter and he made sure to roam his eyes to see every laughing face.

"Right. Right. Very good."

Jammy nodded and took out another cigar.

"You can’t smoke inside the Cathedral, janitor." Coin said.

"We are way past rules, Emberlord. Shedding blood also wasn’t allowed in the Cathedral."

Jammy lit his brown cigar and put it between his lips.

The Emberlord didn’t oppose anymore and Jammy addressed the crowd.

They had stopped laughing.

"That was funny, wasn’t it?" He asked.

No reply.

Jammy smiled.

"Laugh all you want, fancy pals. You can’t keep pressing the springs forever."

Coin narrowed his eyes. "What do you an?"

"Nothing. You just give the verdict and end the trial. The boy answered everything."

"Not everything. He is still silent about his sister."

Jammy rolled his eyes.

"Why are you so fixated on her? She is clearly ill. Look at her face."

"She only has a cold. That is not an illness capable of saring with blood."

Jammy sighed. He ignored Coin and tilted his head at Zane.

"Tell him about your sister. The oath will wear off any minute now. Better use it before that."

Zane didn’t know that.

If the oath wore off and he said sothing after that, nothing was stopping them to call him a liar.

He had to say everything in one go to clear the doubts from Milo.

Which he did.

"She is really sick. She only caught a cold today. But she has been sick for years now. I don’t know what illness she has. She faints, she vomits blood. She is not a demon. She is not a riftborn. Her only fault is that she is a sister of a poor brother who couldn’t afford dicines and a cure for her well being!"

"There you have it again." Jammy chirped.

The Emberlord went silent.

Everyone watched Coin and Jammy standing face to face in the center of the Cathedral.

Hena and her bodyguard had recovered enough to walk again but not without support. Especially Hena.

Her bodyguard rested her hand over his shoulder as both of them ca down from the stage.

They walked past Xavier who was still lying on the floor.

They spared him one glance and walked towards the door of the Cathedral.

Towards Zane and Milo.

Xavier watched them go but he did try to figure out why the girl helped Zane. She was a Halocrat but not loved by them.

Just to get back at the Halocrats, she tried to help a gutterborn?

Xavier guessed but without any solid evidence, he couldn’t reach a final answer.

He also tried to raise his head to look for Tesla but the man appeared to be sleeping peacefully on the stage.

Xavier wasn’t in the position of standing up so he rested on the floor and focused on the janitor like everyone else.

"Well, say sothing." Jammy pressed as Coin had gone silent for a while now.

The Emberlord was in deep thought and at Jammy’s words, he looked up.

He turned around and walked towards Zane again.

Zane flinched.

He pulled Milo closer to his chest and Hena also readied herself with her sword, even if she was in no position to fight even a wingless bird.

She and her bodyguard stayed in front of the gutterborn.

To get to Zane, Coin would have to throw Hena and her bodyguard again.

The Emberlord finally reached in front of the short haired girl as she stared at the man with sharp eyes.

Coin sighed.

"Move. I am only here to talk."

But Hena shook her head.

She refused the Emberlord.

Gasps rang at the refusal but before Coin could take any action.

"It’s fine. Let him co."

Zane gave the permission.

Sothing told him his words would be obliged.

A Halocrat would hear him.

Hena was protecting Zane aning she had her reasons, but if the person being protected called off the security, she would stop as well.

Which she did.

Hena and her bodyguard stepped to the side. But not before giving one last look at Zane.

But Zane wasn’t looking at them anymore.

He and the Emberlord were now face to face.

Zane was on the floor, his back resting against the big door of the Cathedral.

Coin lood over him.

Everyone held their breaths as to not miss the words that would be exchanged.

Jammy had also co behind the Emberlord with his mop and waited for the godman’s decision.

All eyes glued to the scene near the door and under their gazes, the Emberlord finally spoke:

"Three days."

Zane’s brows quivered.

"For what?"

The Emberlord placed his hands behind his back.

"You shall return the relic in three days."

Zane’s heart skipped a beat.

"But I said five days."

"I know. But I want it in three days. The Full rge is near. I need the relic before that."

"That’s ridiculous." Jammy chid in. "How will he find the relic in three days when he doesn’t even know where it is?"

The Emberlord didn’t turn around. His eyes stayed on Zane.

"He was going to return it in five days anyway. Whatever idea he had, he only needs to execute it faster."

"Can’t you find it yourself?" Jammy asked.

"I can, yes. But he lost the relic. That alone deserves punishnt. If he wants to redeem himself, he shall return the relic in three days."

"What kind of reason is th—"

"I accept."

Zane interrupted Jammy.

He spoke before the janitor could argue more.

Jammy clicked his tongue and the Emberlord nodded.

"That’s all then. I hereby—"

Coin paused.

Zane raised his hand.

"Not yet, emberlord."

He locked eyes with Coin.

"I accept the three day ti, yes. However..."

Zane road his eyes inside the Cathedral and again stopped his gaze at the Emberlord.

"I have so conditions."
