True justice is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of fairness.
Zane’s trial officially ended.
The Emberlord announced it with his own mouth.
Murmurs spread around but it was only the Halocrats who did that.
The Commoners simply sighed as it was finally over.
They were pressed between the rich and the extre poor, not sure where their judgent should be.
If they sided with the Gutterborns, the Halocrats won’t like them and if they sided with the Halocrats, their conscience won’t like them.
They simply ca here to study, not join politics.
The Emberlord clapped his hands.
"That will be all for the day. Go to the dorms to study. Half the morning is already gone."
No legs moved until...
"Go!"
Coin raised his voice.
All the second thoughts vanished and everyone began leaving the Cathedral.
Zane and the others would have done the sa if not for the Emberlord gesturing them to stay.
The Commoners were the first one and the fastest to leave the area and not once did they look at Zane and the people supporting him.
Their heads stayed low as if more than the gutterborns, they were the ones suffering.
Zane didn’t bother with them and stood to the side to let them leave.
He was still around the exit of the Cathedral, near the door.
After the Commoners, the Halocrats made their move.
One by one, they also ca and unlike the Commoners, each one of them made sure to look at Zane with their everyday normal gaze full of disgust.
So of them didn’t even spare the Emberlord as he also beca a victim of their gazes.
But such gazes didn’t affect both n.
Zane was familiar to them and the Emberlord had no fear of them.
Though, Hena also got such gazes but her still face didn’t let anyone read what she felt.
Fortunately, they were only throwing gazes.
No one was stopping in front of Zane to say sothing.
All of them kept walking on their way.
However...
"Seriously."
Zane spoke too soon.
One person stopped in front of him before leaving.
It was a young Halocrat and with him was his assistant or a bodyguard.
It was Zane’s first ti seeing them and to maintain the calm situation, he decided to keep quiet.
"You spent everything on your luck. Can’t stay at one place to die peacefully." The Halocrat said.
Zane frowned.
He didn’t know what the man was talking about but he let it be.
"But sure, be careful out there. Attacks can happen. Who knows?"
The young man smiled and reached out his hand at Milo.
As long as it was for him, Zane was silent.
But he won’t do the sa for...
"Keep going."
Milo.
Before the Halocrat could touch her, Zane pulled her closer.
He didn’t stop the hand of the Halocrat as it would definitely offend the man but he made sure to make himself clear that Milo shouldn’t be touched.
The Halocrat stopped his hand.
He laughed and nodded a few tis.
"Good. Good. I like that. Better protect the family."
The man averted his eyes and left the Cathedral as well.
His bodyguard went with him.
Zane watched the back of the man and not once did the rich bred turn around to look at the gutterborn.
He won’t take revenge for that, will he?
He knew how fragile their ego was.
"ssing with Leon wasn’t a wise choice, thief." Soone said.
Zane knew the voice.
He averted his eyes from the walking Halocrat and looked at the other rich brat who now stood in front of Zane.
Zane rembers this man.
He was the sa man who ordered his attendant to trip Zane on the stairs.
Probably because he himself didn’t want to do it or was scared to do it.
"Who is Leon?" Zane asked.
"He is the only son of the Bronzers family. They own most of the land in Dwarkam. And I thought I would be the one to teach you a lesson."
The Halocrat laughed and left the Cathedral as well.
Zane looked at Milo and if Leon ca for her then...
His family owns enough land for to find a grave for him.
He threw the Cathedral in chaos in front of the Emberlord, what could Leon do to him.
After those two, no other Halocrat stopped in front of Zane and finally, the Cathedral was devoid of the stinking fragrance of flowers.
The Commoners left.
The Halocrats left.
Only Zane, Xavier, Jammy, Tesla, Hena, Bodyguard, and the Emberlord were left.
The gutterborns were standing outside.
The Flakeeper was outside too but he wasn’t visible. He was busy preparing the diner for Zane and company.
Coin faced the stage, staring at the Sun that was printed on the wall.
Zane and the others stood in silence like the Emberlord.
"Do you think he will co down to pay us a visit one day?" Coin asked.
Zane looked left and right.
Xavier shrugged.
Hena couldn’t care less.
Is he asking ?
Zane didn’t know but Jammy placed his hand on his shoulder.
I should answer sothing.
"Well, isn’t he already around us?"
I hope he was really asking about the First Fla.
Coin turned around.
He looked at Zane with his blue eyes and nodded.
"You are right. He is already present around us. Perhaps you should be a priest too."
No thanks. I am not that good at lying.
Zane shook his head.
"I think we should leave."
"Right. Yeah, go ahead. Do what you have to do. I will stay here for a while."
Zane didn’t reply and nodded at Xavier.
Xavier returned it and he was the first one to leave.
Tesla followed him.
Jammy, Hena, and the bodyguard did the sa.
All of them stood outside and Zane and Milo were the last ones left.
He gave one final look to the Cathedral and the damage he had done.
He also looked at the two Enforcers.
Varikh was still unconscious and Kairon laid on the floor, his eyes facing the ceiling.
He was alive but not in the position to speak.
Zane let him be and with Milo, he finally stepped outside.
He finally left the Cathedral.
But as soon as his feet touched the ground...
[ Ding! ]
[ Ding! ]
[ Ding! ]
[ DING! ]
[ DING! ]
[ DING! ]
[ DING! ]
His system went berserk.
