At this mont, Jason Wood blocked her way to the elevator, "Miss Quentin."
Rebecca Quentin said calmly, "I want to see Howard Geoffrey."
"The boss is in a eting."
"I can wait for him."
Jason Wood hesitated, "But the boss doesn’t want to see you."
Rebecca Quentin paused for a second.
Jason Wood realized his words might have been inappropriate, and quickly changed his tone, "The boss is really too busy to see you, he’s been occupied with many affairs. Mr. Jones is nowhere to be found, and the governnt business tower project is wrapping up, all handled by him alone."
"I won’t take much of his ti. If you don’t let up, and if I reconcile with Howard Geoffrey soday, I’ll make sure he fires you first."
Rebecca Quentin precisely grasped the anxiety in Jason Wood’s heart.
Jason Wood knew Rebecca Quentin was rely trying to intimidate him; the chances of her reconciling with Howard Geoffrey were exceedingly low. However, who can really predict matters of the heart? What if that day truly cos...
Thinking about this, Jason Wood slowly stepped aside.
Rebecca Quentin walked into the elevator by herself. When the elevator doors closed, she took out a li from her bag and inhaled its scent, ensuring the refreshing aroma would help her endure any discomfort for the next hour or two. She then walked out of the elevator directly to Howard Geoffrey’s office.
Sure enough, he was in a eting, and only his assistant was in the office.
His assistant was evidently not as astute as his secretary. Seeing her, he warmly prepared a cup of coffee for her, as in the past, and eagerly told her how much longer the eting would last.
She didn’t dare to eat, fearing the lemon scent in her nostrils might dissipate.
After thanking the assistant, she placed the coffee to one side.
She didn’t know how much ti had passed when she heard a noise of footsteps coming from the hallway.
Evidently, several people were headed to the president’s office, and she could be sure he was among them, as she vaguely heard voices addressing him.
"President, regarding the Normandy project, the French governnt has given us a year, so we have ample ti for design and planning. The current issue is..."
Several executives followed Howard Geoffrey in from outside, originally discussing project matters. However, they stopped talking when they suddenly saw Rebecca Quentin.
Howard Geoffrey evidently hadn’t expected Rebecca Quentin to be there. When Jason Wood ca in from outside to explain Rebecca Quentin’s presence, Howard Geoffrey waved his hand, signaling everyone to leave.
Thus, in just half a minute, the spacious office was left with only Howard Geoffrey and Rebecca Quentin.
It had been over a month since they last saw each other, but both their faces showed nothing but disgust and contempt.
Howard Geoffrey threw the docunt in his hand onto the desk and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Rebecca Quentin replied indifferently, "I just want to ask you, how long do you intend to keep locked up?"
"Hasn’t anyone told you Skyler Jones hasn’t shown up yet?"
"Your family matters have nothing to do with !"
Howard Geoffrey sat at his desk, opened the docunt, and responded without looking up, "I’m not interested in speaking with you. Leave!"
His voice was cold and decisive, revealing his intense disdain toward her.
Despite her shared disdain, Rebecca Quentin calmly asked, "If I can bring Skyler Jones here, will you let go?"
Howard Geoffrey replied coldly, "Do it and we’ll see."
"Rember what you said!"
She left after throwing out those words.
If Rebecca Quentin truly had confidence in being able to bring Skyler Jones here, she would have done it long ago when Howard Geoffrey used this reason to imprison her. In reality, she had no confidence; she rely wanted to test Howard Geoffrey’s attitude to see if there was still a chance for her to leave. It was clear now that Howard Geoffrey’s attitude remained firm, and there was no way he would let her go at this mont.
Therefore, the only way she could regain her freedom was to contact Skyler Jones as soon as possible...
The state of her health was already causing her anxiety. She could no longer afford to delay, nor bear the stress of constant fear.
It was truly a mont of desperation turned ingenuity; she suddenly rembered an email address Skyler Jones had given her when she was doing work for him. He had ntioned that if she ever needed his help, she could contact him through this email, and she had saved it in her phone back then...
With the mindset of giving it a try, Rebecca Quentin sent a ssage to Skyler Jones’s email—Can you co back?
After waiting a day, she received no reply from Skyler Jones. But she didn’t lose hope; the next day she sent another ssage—I might need your help!
Another day passed, and he still hadn’t replied. She was beginning to feel disheartened, yet she persisted in sending one more ssage—I await your return!
Rebecca Quentin didn’t hold much hope, but who would have thought, on the day after she sent the third ssage, Skyler Jones actually ca back.
She saw him in the hotel when she went downstairs for a al because she was hungry.
Skyler Jones was seated by the window, a lit cigarette in his hand. The thin smoke wafted around his handso figure.
At that mont, it was an indescribable calm. Looking back, she realized he must have arranged for the entire floor to be vacant because there seed to be no one else besides him and her there.
She walked over to him.
He extinguished his cigarette and his eyes t hers.
She then sat across from him and was the first to speak, "Thank you." She knew he had co back for her; he didn’t reply to her, but directly took action.
He spoke softly, "Didn’t I tell you before? We don’t need to say these things between us."
She changed the subject, "You might already know why I’m asking for your help."
"I’m sorry for disappearing for a month and causing trouble for you, but I’m certain Howard Geoffrey won’t harm you anymore." With him there, his younger brother would not dare to act rashly.
"Mr. Jones, I know what you’re avoiding, but I talked with old Mrs. Geoffrey that day. I can feel she genuinely longs to see you and recognize you. She once told she had her reasons for pushing you away back then. I believe you also understand, the unforgivable thing for you is that your mother chose Howard Geoffrey over you. In reality, if you put yourself in her shoes, both of you wanted to go with your mother. Even if she chose you, today it would be Howard Geoffrey who resented her, and would you be happier than you are now? Probably not, just look at Howard Geoffrey now, all these years, he’s put in so much effort to find you..."
