Only seven years had passed, and now she had fallen into such a desolate state...
In this lifeti, she feared she would never be able to afford such high-class dresses again...
As if led by so mysterious force, she picked out what she thought was the best-looking dress and quickly walked into the bathroom.
Seconds later, she erged from the bathroom, now wearing a plain white dress.
Standing in front of the full-length mirror in the room, she stared blankly at her reflection.
After all these years, her figure hadn’t changed much, but she had long lost her forr beauty and elegance.
Her hair simply draped over her shoulders, her unadorned, haggard face... nowhere did she resemble the once sophisticated debutante.
Now, as plain and ordinary as she was, how could she compare with others?
The others were famous debutantes in France, reportedly only twenty-three, young and beautiful, with a family background in the French high society aristocracy, an uncle who was an internationally influential chairman of business affairs.
Not to ntion Mrs. Geoffrey would like Alice Robinson; even Howard Geoffrey himself would probably be grateful to marry Alice, as such a wife was the best choice for him in both love and career.
Damn it, what was she thinking?
Shaking her head, she dispelled the chaotic thoughts from her mind, Rebecca Quentin slowly closed her eyes, letting her thoughts settle rationally.
No one expected that just as she closed her eyes to calm herself, soone suddenly reached out from behind and embraced her.
The familiar male scent that invaded her nostrils, along with the dominant strength of the arms holding her, made Rebecca Quentin abruptly open her eyes, looking at the handso figure in the mirror. The next second, she wanted to scream.
Howard Geoffrey quickly made a shushing gesture to Rebecca Quentin, whispering close to her ear, "The son’s sleeping, isn’t he? If you don’t want to wake him, you’d better stay calm."
"You, you, you..." Rebecca Quentin imdiately broke out of Howard Geoffrey’s embrace, incredulously pointing at him appearing in front of her, "When did you co in?" Good heavens, was he a ghost?
"I intended to surprise you, but when I ca in, I found you didn’t lock the door..." As he spoke, Howard Geoffrey once again pulled Rebecca Quentin into his arms, burying his head in her neck, his voice gently murmured, "I’ve missed you... You dressed so beautifully today because you knew I would co, didn’t you?"
Rebecca Quentin once more exerted force to break free from Howard Geoffrey, quickly creating distance between them, "You should leave, you’re not welco here."
Howard Geoffrey stepped forward, a hint of hurt flashing in his eyes, "I put aside business, rushed over early to see you, can’t you have a proper conversation with ?"
Rebecca Quentin retreated, her deanor remaining cold, "There’s nothing to talk about between us."
Howard Geoffrey thought that after staying in the hotel for a day and a night, their relationship had improved, but he didn’t expect that Rebecca Quentin today had reverted to being as prickly as a porcupine.
Howard Geoffrey didn’t force Rebecca Quentin to continue backing away but instead stood his ground calmly, "I told you, this ti I ca to take you and the child away."
Rebecca Quentin almost blurted out without hesitation, "Impossible."
Howard Geoffrey slowly narrowed his eyes, casting a sidelong glance at her, "What must I do for you to forgive and give us another chance?"
Rebecca Quentin shook her head vehently, "It’s impossible, there will never be another chance for us... Howard Geoffrey, stop saying such insincere words to . If you have any hidden agenda, please tell directly. If I can, I will cooperate with you. I beg you to stop using the guise of hate to hurt soone. All I want is a peaceful life."
Howard Geoffrey seed to have been punched hard, his face instantly turning ashen, "You clearly want to piss off! Do you really think I have nothing better to do than run here to see you every day?"
Rebecca Quentin’s eyes instantly filled with redness.
She rembered how she had once loved him so selflessly, only to end up being used and deceived by his pretense.
Of course, she still had lingering feelings for him, but she dared not love again, nor would she foolishly trust him again. She had learned enough from past lessons; she would rather never see him again in this lifeti!
Suddenly, Howard Geoffrey walked over and grabbed her shoulders, lifting her chin, "Fine, look into my eyes and say it again that you don’t love , say it!!" Howard Geoffrey shouted uncontrollably.
"Don’t speak so loudly, I don’t want to wake the child." Rebecca Quentin turned to look at the child in the cradle, grateful he hadn’t been awakened by their argunt.
