Manager Smith was indeed worried sick, and he said outright on the phone that he had just gone to Rebecca Quentin’s house to look for her but didn’t see her, and was about to call the police.
Rebecca Quentin explained to Manager Smith that she had sent Nicolette Hols ho late last night and couldn’t find a taxi, so she stayed at a small hotel. Her phone was out of battery and turned off automatically, and she overslept because she didn’t hear the alarm in the morning.
Manager Smith felt relieved after hearing Rebecca Quentin’s explanation.
Rebecca Quentin then requested three days’ leave from Manager Smith.
Manager Smith granted her leave imdiately upon hearing that her relative was ill, and he said to call him if she needed help, which moved Rebecca Quentin deeply.
Not long after Rebecca Quentin finished the call, Howard Geoffrey ca out of the bathroom after washing up.
Rebecca Quentin quickly approached him, anxious, "Please, let the service staff open the door."
Howard Geoffrey took out his phone and made a call. Within a minute, there was the sound of a magnetic card sliding across the door lock.
Rebecca Quentin grabbed her bag and rushed to open the door; indeed, the door opened imdiately.
She was delighted as she was about to step out, but suddenly soone wrapped an arm around her waist.
Looking at Howard Geoffrey holding her by her side, Rebecca Quentin frowned in confusion, "What are you doing?"
"I’ll go with you."
Rebecca Quentin was instantly in disbelief at her ears.
In the hotel elevator, Rebecca Quentin freed herself from Howard Geoffrey’s embrace and said seriously, "I don’t want to be talked about."
Rebecca Quentin had not forgotten that she and Howard Geoffrey were no longer related, and being together in public might cause a stir.
Howard Geoffrey pulled Rebecca Quentin back again, "Your worries are unnecessary."
"Hey..."
As Rebecca Quentin attempted to push him away, the elevator door opened.
Rebecca Quentin suddenly froze in the elevator, glaring at Howard Geoffrey with annoyance.
At this mont, a respectful voice ca through, "President."
Upon hearing the sowhat familiar voice, Rebecca Quentin turned her head to look.
It was Roye.
It seed like she hadn’t seen him in a long ti.
Roye greeted Rebecca Quentin, "Miss Quentin!"
Feeling awkward being held by Howard Geoffrey, Rebecca Quentin nodded slightly, "Hi, how are you."
Howard Geoffrey asked, "Are we all set?"
Roye nodded, "The plane has been refueled and we can depart now."
On the way to the airport, Roye drove while Rebecca Quentin and Howard Geoffrey sat in the backseat.
Rebecca Quentin was worried about Aunt Clare, causing her complexion to look rather poor.
Howard Geoffrey leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes in repose.
Thinking about Aunt Clare lying alone in the hospital, enduring the illness, Rebecca Quentin grew increasingly uneasy.
"It’ll be okay."
Resting lightly, Howard Geoffrey gently grasped Rebecca Quentin’s cold hand, comforting her softly.
Suddenly enveloped by Howard Geoffrey’s warm hand, Rebecca Quentin was stunned for a mont and looked at him.
He was still asleep, his eyes remaining closed.
Rebecca Quentin couldn’t help but wonder.
He had leaned back on the seat to rest as soon as he got in the car; he seed tired, but last night didn’t appear that exaggerated.
Seeing Rebecca Quentin staring at Howard Geoffrey in a trance, as if guessing her thoughts, Roye spoke up, "The President hasn’t slept in the days before coming to T City."
"Why?"
"It’s the busiest ti of the year. The President hardly has ti to give himself a break, and he needed to free up a few days for the T City trip, so he had to preemptively handle several days’ worth of tasks, working consecutively." Roye answered honestly.
Roye rely said the general idea; Howard Geoffrey had many issues to resolve beforehand in order to be with Rebecca Quentin.
Rebecca Quentin was taken aback, looking at Howard Geoffrey.
So, when he said "tired" yesterday, he really ant it...
She had thought he was lying, trying to make her lower her guard.
But he deserved it, not sleeping for days, and then last night...
Thinking of this, Rebecca Quentin’s face couldn’t help but turn red.
Howard Geoffrey and Rebecca Quentin arrived in M City at six in the afternoon.
Upon reaching the hospital, the nurse led Rebecca Quentin to Aunt Clare’s ward.
Howard Geoffrey didn’t go in, instead waiting outside the ward.
Walking into the ward, Rebecca Quentin saw Aunt Clare lying lifelessly on the hospital bed.
Weakly resting on the bedhead, Aunt Clare, upon seeing Rebecca Quentin, seed unable to believe her eyes, rasping out, "Miss?"
Rebecca Quentin sat by the bed, looking at Aunt Clare’s withered hand, shaking her head fiercely, "How did this happen?" Aunt Clare had always been plump, but now she was skin and bones.
Aunt Clare withdrew her hand, her bloodless face imdiately showing a relaxed smile, "That doctor made such a fuss, I’m fine, yet insisted on contacting family mbers."
