This was the first ti Roger Leonard had ever seen a woman so tenacious, and an inexplicable fondness sprouted in his heart.
KNOCK, KNOCK.
A few rhythmic knocks sounded at the office door, followed by Miss Ruth’s voice, "General Leonard."
Roger’s thoughts were interrupted. He adjusted his posture. "Co in."
Miss Ruth led a graceful and beautiful woman in, saying respectfully, "This is Miss Quinn. She says she’s your friend and would like to see you."
Roger glanced up and broke into a hearty laugh. "Christine?"
Christine Quinn removed her sunglasses, revealing her stunningly beautiful face, and laughed softly. "Roger!"
Roger Leonard stood up and walked over to Christine, surprise evident in his voice. "What brings you to G City?"
Christine answered, "I didn’t co here alone, of course."
Roger, thrilled, asked, "So Dora ca too?"
"Yes, he has so business to attend to in G City. He’s resting at the hotel now!"
"Christine, sit... Carl, bring in a cup of coffee," Roger instructed the person outside.
"I won’t sit. I have to go back to the hotel to keep Howard Geoffrey company. I ca to talk to you about sothing."
Roger Leonard and Christine Quinn weren’t particularly close, but she was Howard Geoffrey’s girlfriend. Howard Geoffrey had occasionally brought Christine along when the brothers t, so Roger Leonard had always respected her.
Roger said, "Go ahead."
As if finding the words difficult, Christine said slowly, "I want to ask you for a favor."
"Oh?"
"I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but do you have a young sales associate nad Rebecca Quentin at your counter?"
As soon as Christine spoke, Roger guessed what she was about to say. This further confird his suspicion that the "Rebecca Quentin" in his store was indeed Dora’s ex-wife.
Now that he thought about it, the main reason he’d found Rebecca familiar was that her features sowhat resembled Christine’s. Of course, their types of beauty were distinctly different: Rebecca leaned more towards pure and lively, while Christine was like an ethereal, stunning goddess.
"I’m sorry, I haven’t noticed," Roger replied.
Christine sighed softly. "You might not know... but the woman working at your counter is your Dora’s ex-wife, Rebecca Quentin."
"Oh, is that so?" Roger feigned surprise.
Christine’s long eyelashes lowered, and she said softly, "To be honest, she and I are half-sisters—we share the sa father. But I don’t enjoy seeing her."
Roger raised an eyebrow. "So, the reason she’s been struggling to find a job is that you’ve been warning other businesses in Dora’s na?"
"Yes," Christine admitted readily. "For the past four years, I’ve kept a close watch on her every move. I knew she had joined Leonard. I originally intended to talk to you about it, but then I thought, I should at least let her have a way to survive. Otherwise, how could I live out the rest of my life fueled by hatred?"
Roger didn’t say anything.
Christine continued, "You might not understand why I go to such lengths to make things difficult for her, but you don’t need to. You just need to know that not letting her have an easy life is a conviction I will uphold for the rest of my life. So, I’m asking you now to transfer her to another city."
Roger, ever so clever, asked, "Are you afraid she’ll run into Dora?"
Christine answered honestly, "No one would want their boyfriend to et his ex-wife again."
Roger nodded. "I’ll consider it."
"Thank you."
「The next day.」
Rebecca Quentin was called into Miss Ruth’s office early in the morning.
Before she went in, it had never crossed her mind that Miss Ruth would want to transfer her to H City for work.
Rebecca didn’t understand. She was doing well in G City, so why would Miss Ruth suddenly want to transfer her? Could it be that Miss Ruth blad her for ruining that dress? But when she apologized to Miss Ruth yesterday, Miss Ruth had still seed friendly...
Actually, she didn’t want to be transferred from G City. It wasn’t that H City was bad; after all, the compensation would be the sa anywhere. It was just that H City was far away, and she didn’t want to move to another unfamiliar place after finally settling into a new environnt.
However, Miss Ruth’s tone was very firm—a resolve she hadn’t shown in the past two years, and it was clearly non-negotiable.
Sigh...
Walking ho, Rebecca couldn’t help but sigh at the thought of having to fit into a new environnt all over again.
Suddenly, she thought of her good friend, Isabella Joanna, and looked wistfully across the street at the hotel where she and Isabella had stayed just the night before.
