Christine Quinn imdiately tried to break the silence, "Hello, I am Christine Quinn, here to apply for the Executive Secretary position in the CEO’s office."
"I know." The man casually lifted his head, giving her a flat glance.
Christine was startled in her heart. She had heard that the CEO of the "Oversky" Group was a young and handso man; she wasn’t expecting that when he lifted his face, his level of handsoness would surprise her.
However, upon closer inspection, she found it not so surprising, because the heroic spirit between his brows, the determined eyes, and the mature expressions marked with lines suggested a sophistication beyond his age.
What kind of man was he? The deep eyes revealed a weathered soul, and his entire being exuded an aura of loneliness.
Christine couldn’t help but scrutinize him.
Their eyes t for just a second, unlike previous bosses she’d encountered, he didn’t linger on her beauty at all, lowering his head back down, his gaze returning to the newspaper as if he hadn’t seen her.
Christine didn’t speak either, letting the atmosphere remain silent like this, only stealing glances with the corner of her eye at the crystal-crafted naplate on the desk — CEO, Skyler Jones.
She knew that Skyler Jones was always low-key, rarely accepting interviews, and certainly never ntioning his family background to outsiders. People only knew that "Oversky" originated as a small industrial company, which only rose to its current prominence after he took over. Rumor had it that he was an orphan, but such news was never confird by Skyler Jones himself, leaving no one knowing who he really was.
A very strange silence fell, serene and peaceful, without a trace of impatience; she simply waited quietly by the side.
After another five minutes, Skyler finally lifted his hand, folding the newspaper and tossing it in front of Christine, "Read the headline from the front page of this newspaper."
Skyler’s tone was cold, indifferently commanding.
Christine was stunned for a mont, then quietly put down her bag, picked up the newspaper, and glanced at it.
In a normal tone, Christine read it out loud, "The New York X Weekly claims that ’Skytop’ will replace ’Shine’ as the number one king in the global construction industry."
After reading, Christine put the newspaper back in place, picked up her bag again, and quietly looked at him.
Skyler leaned back against the chair, his face showing no hint of joy or anger, simply sizing her up, as if casually saying, "Do you think ’Skytop’ can beco the king in the construction industry?"
Christine voiced her honest opinion, "It is said that ’Skytop’ is registered in New York, and its leader, Howard Geoffrey, possesses an exceptional business acun and unique managent philosophy. Recently, they will also enter T City in the Flowery Kingdom, establishing their first branch company. They’ve already secured three international projects, with two completed projects gaining worldwide recognition... so, I think, under such a brilliant and capable CEO, it’s not impossible for ’Skytop’ to beco the industry’s foremost king."
Skyler raised an eyebrow at Christine, squinting slightly, curiously asking, "Why didn’t you say like others that ’Oversky’ could be the industry’s king?"
"Because to beat soone, you have to first see their strength; only by seeing the strength of others can you devise a strategy for the battle."
"How do you know I want to beat ’Skytop’?"
"When you were reading the newspaper, there was a hint of mockery in your eyes, so I could see your determination to compete."
"Alright, you may leave now."
After Christine answered, Skyler suddenly ca out with such a line, his tone not polite, as if he was dismissing her.
Christine shrugged, finding it alright anyway, since several companies had already extended offers to her today. She just wanted to join a company like "Oversky" with more generous benefits, but if she couldn’t get in, she would still have a job.
However, the man in front of her seed very arrogant; if they were really to work together, she feared it wouldn’t be pleasant for her.
As she walked to the door, a deep, steady voice ca from behind—
"Be on ti for work tomorrow, I don’t like tardiness."
What?
Christine turned back in surprise.
His aning was she... she was hired?
She did nothing, just expressed a few of her own opinions without reserve, and she was hired like that? She could hardly believe it.
Skyler didn’t even raise his head, not giving her a single glance, as he began looking at the docunts in front of him.
Christine smiled faintly, nodded, "Yes, Mr. Jones." Saying this, Christine suppressed her excitent as she walked out of the office.
Soon after Christine left the office, she heard a deep male voice from behind her, the voice of the CEO’s assistant.
"Everyone, there’s no need for further interviews. The CEO has already selected a new secretary. Sorry, the recruitnt process is closed, you all may leave."
The assistant’s words sparked discussions among the won outside the room.
"Why? Aren’t there many who haven’t been interviewed yet?"
"Need you ask? It’s definitely pre-determined!"
"Then why bother bringing us here? Really." Complained a young lady carrying a branded handbag.
"Huh? You too? I had the sa... He asked for my opinion, and of course, I said ’Oversky’ is bound to defeat ’Skytop’, after all, ’Oversky’ is already a leading construction group in the country, while ’Skytop’ has just started these days. ’Skytop’ certainly can’t compete with ’Oversky’!"
"Then what answer should have been given?"
Amidst the discussions, Christine walked out of the "Oversky" Group building, dialing the closest person to share the news—
"Yes, mommy, I didn’t expect either, I got hired just like that. This was the strangest interview I’ve ever had, but the result is great... Mommy, I’ll take you out for dinner today..."
The sound of the bathroom door opening interrupted Christine’s reminiscence.
Skyler Jones walked out from the bathroom, his lower body wrapped in a towel.
Christine looked at Skyler, his tall and upright figure unmistakably overlapped with the slender and elegant figure in her mories, montarily making her feel like she had returned to that mont.
However, the harsh reality gradually brought her back to her senses.
"Why haven’t you slept yet?"
Skyler straightforwardly tugged off the towel, put on a robe, and then asked.
Having caught a glimpse of Skyler’s lean silhouette, Christine had already turned her eyes away, calmly answering, "Didn’t you have sothing to discuss with ?"
"Did you see it?"
"You wanted to see it, didn’t you?"
Skyler turned around, walked toward the bed, then picked up the agreent on the bedside table, grabbing a pen, as he sat down on the bed’s edge, lightly speaking, "I have already signed the agreent, if you find no issues, sign it as well."
Christine took the agreent and pen Skyler handed her, not in a rush to sign it, but instead looked at him mockingly, "Signing a six-month contract marriage and using Marie’s custody as leverage, are you afraid I would beco infatuated with the title of ’Mrs. Jones’?"
