She knew her body well; she was becoming increasingly frail, and the burden on her heart was growing heavier. Without the dication the doctor provided, her condition might have worsened by now.
The doctor was very clear: her chances of recovery were only through a miracle.
So, she declined Jonathon Gibson’s help over the phone because, in the days she had left, she didn’t want to waste her ti on futile efforts. She just wanted to spend every minute and second she could with Marie.
"I told you, before I divorce you, I won’t leave Marie. But in two months, I have to go abroad, so I need you to co back and take care of Marie for a while."
Skyler Jones turned his face, looking at her with deep calm, "With Jonathon Gibson?"
Christine Quinn nodded, "Yes." This could serve as her excuse for leaving.
"You haven’t forgotten that we’re divorcing in three months, have you?"
"I know."
"I hope you can rush back before then."
"Don’t worry, I won’t forget about the divorce." She knew he had long wanted to be free of her, so she wouldn’t beco his "passed wife," left to be resented after her death for tarnishing his bright and glorious life.
"As long as you rember!!"
His indifferent, unemotional voice made her turn to look out the window.
At that mont, the vibration of a phone was heard.
He answered the call, his tone gentle, "What’s up?"
The soft voice from the phone seed directed at Christine Quinn, "Oversky, I’m sick, I’ve got a fever of thirty-nine degrees... I feel so bad, and you’re not by my side..."
"If you’re sick, then go to the hospital."
"I know, I’ve already taken dicine and lying in bed now... but I still feel awful."
"Drink more water."
"I don’t want to... I just want you by my side. Can you co back earlier?" Jennifer Douglas’s voice sounded more like a pout than weakness.
"You really feel that bad?"
"Yes, I feel like I’m dying..."
"Okay... I’ll co back tomorrow."
"Mmm..."
During Skyler Jones’s conversation with Jennifer Douglas, Christine Quinn kept looking out the window.
