Rebecca Quentin expressed freely, "Alright, Aunt Clare, let’s not talk about it anymore, let the past be the past! Look at , now I can see him and co back with a smile, which ans the past is nothing to . If I ever co crying to you, that’s when you really should worry about ..."
"Silly girl, what are you saying..."
After taking a bath, Rebecca Quentin cuddled a pillow and leaned against the headboard.
She originally could sleep, but tonight’s conversation with Aunt Clare made her recall many things.
Of course, she wasn’t thinking about him but about herself.
She truly felt useless; if she had trained her willpower to be stronger in the past four years, she wouldn’t have immaturely gone to see him after hearing those words from the private investigator...
If she hadn’t gone to see him, she wouldn’t have impulsively gone to Arica with Mrs. Geoffrey, and Aunt Clare wouldn’t have misunderstood today, thinking she always wanted to be with him.
She admitted this immaturity was because four years later she still hadn’t let go, like a heart already broken, yet still holding a trembling glimr of hope within. But actually, since knowing him, being with him was never really a thought she’d had, even if going to Arica with Mrs. Geoffrey was just seeking an answer. Without an answer, she would cling to him and ultimately go to hell together with him...
However, she finally found the answer, he wasn’t the planner of the entire affair, he didn’t even participate, he just chose to ignore...
Since the answer is "ignore," what is there to resent, what is there to bla?
He never cared about her in the first place, let alone that the person who ssed with her was his fiancée. Even if she has to endure a lifeti of tornt because of it, what does it matter to him?
So she figured it out...
Since there was no intersection, they might as well be strangers, henceforth he goes his way and she goes hers.
Tonight, she certainly knew he might appear, her instinctive reaction was to evade, but then she thought, since they are strangers now, why should she escape?
Arriving at the party, she thought she was impervious to anything, but she didn’t expect so lingering feelings to still cause her trouble, making her make mistakes and lose composure...
Thankfully, she ultimately managed not to embarrass herself in front of him, which also proves that forgetting this person is never going to be a difficulty in her life.
After thinking all of these through, Rebecca Quentin finally lay down peacefully, insomnia symptoms disappeared, and she quickly drifted off to sleep.
The next day.
Rebecca Quentin was lying in bed leisurely, not wanting to get up, when a phone call ca early in the morning.
She fumbled to find the phone on the bedside table and groggily pressed the answer key, "Hello..."
"Young lady, it’s , Skyler Jones."
Hearing the steady and pleasant male voice next to her ear, Rebecca Quentin imdiately woke up, her eyes widened as she sat up, asking stunned, "Uh, Mr. Jones?"
Oh my god, she couldn’t have heard wrong, could she? Such a prominent figure actually called her, and where did he get her number from?
Skyler Jones asked, "Did I interrupt your sleep?"
"Uh, no, I was just about to get up... Wondering if Mr. Jones you have a reason for calling ?" How embarrassing, she realized by the intensity of the sunlight outside that it must be past ten o’clock.
"I got your number from your company, sorry for calling so abruptly."
"Uh, it’s okay, Mr. Jones, do you need sothing from ?"
"I know you’ve been doing part-ti work at a modeling company, I wonder if you’re willing to do a part-ti job for today too, I’ll pay you by the hour."
Rebecca Quentin answered earnestly, "But I don’t know if I can do what you’re asking..."
"It’s simple, my secretary isn’t feeling well today and took a leave, but since I’m new to T City, I only have my secretary here with . I’m eting several partners later, and it’s inconvenient for without a secretary. Would you be willing to temporarily act as my secretary? The job scope is just to help carry docunts and brew coffee etc., you don’t need to organize docunt content."
"If it’s that simple, sure, I’ll take the job." He helped her last night, she could repay him today, not to ntion it’s a paid task.
"Okay, give your address and I’ll co pick you up."
"Alright."
To fit the secretary role, Rebecca Quentin specially wore a heart-shaped lace blouse paired with a pencil skirt, while waiting for Skyler Jones, she kept considering if such low-level clothing might not match his secretary’s status.
She only waited for a few minutes before Skyler Jones’s rcedes S-Class arrived.
When she waved to greet Skyler Jones, he had already gotten out of the car and gentlemanly opened the door for her.
Feeling a little embarrassed, Rebecca Quentin shyly got into the car.
Seated in the driver’s seat, Skyler Jones smiled and said, "Young lady, thank you for willing to help."
Rebecca Quentin imdiately replied, "Uh, Mr. Jones, you better not call young lady from now on, I’m already twenty-six, my na is Rebecca Quentin, you can call Becca!"
"Alright, Becca, fasten your seatbelt."
"Hmm." While Rebecca Quentin fastened her seatbelt, she suddenly paused and asked seriously, "Uh, Mr. Jones, is this outfit appropriate?"
Skyler Jones sincerely replied, "It’s appropriate, and looks very good."
When he first saw her he already noticed, unlike yesterday, today she wore very light makeup, and sohow the cheap blouse and skirt gave her an upscale look, enhancing her graceful figure. Her waterfall-like straight black hair gave off a pure and elegant vibe, not to ntion those clear, captivating eyes that almost took one’s breath away.
"Thanks, then let’s set off. Please tell what I should do next."
"Alright." Skyler Jones started the engine.
Suddenly, Rebecca Quentin seriously asked, "Mr. Jones, you’re not a bad guy, are you?"
Skyler Jones laughed heartily, "Do I look like a bad guy?"
Rebecca Quentin laughed along, "Not really, but bad guys wouldn’t have ’bad’ written on their forehead. But I trust you, and I also have a GPS system in my phone."
The two drove away while chatting and laughing.
vi Palace Club.
Rebecca Quentin was not unfamiliar with this place because she had once invited several executives here to discuss issues concerning the Quentin. It was considered the most upscale business club in T City.
Rebecca Quentin followed Skyler Jones with docunts in hand, looking the part.
Skyler Jones suddenly said, "Becca, you have a natural elegance and grace, you must have grown up in a wealthy family, right?"
This was a painful topic for Rebecca Quentin, not wanting to elaborate, she simply explained, "Yes, after my father passed away, my family declined."
