After opening the ergency exit, they found it led to a dimly lit alley behind the KTV.
Hearing what seed like footsteps chasing from behind, the group didn’t think twice and ran into the alley.
Everyone felt as if this dark, gloomy alley had no beginning or end, with no lights in front or behind.
The left side of the alley was an old building’s boundary wall, damp to the touch and covered with moldy moss.
The right side featured a row of residences, equally old buildings from decades ago, with only a few households showing so dim lights, the rest pitch black.
The lights from the residences barely illuminated the alley at all.
As they vigorously ran through the alley, Gu Nuan and the others didn’t dare turn on any lights they carried, fearing they might reveal their escape route to their pursuers.
Their journey was guided by touch alone.
Because they didn’t know where the front led, they dreaded that there might be enemies waiting at the alley’s exit to capture them all in one fell swoop.
Basing on this assumption, Wa Zicong made a decisive command, directing Zhong Qiaohui, who was at the forefront, to look for any doors they might enter.
Zhong Qiaohui finally felt a door on the right side that seed openable; she carefully kicked it open, stepped inside, and signaled to the others that they could follow.
Thus, the group followed her and hid in the dark passage behind the door. Gu Nuan and Tang Qingzhong, trailing at the back, cautiously closed the door they had entered through: they also bolted it.
It wasn’t clear where this dark passage led.
Moving forward, they reached the dead-end where a brick wall covered in moss blocked their way.
At that mont, they were essentially trapped; if the chasing group found them there, they would have no way out.
"Don’t make a sound," Wa Zicong instructed everyone in a hushed tone.
Everyone knew he was right: now, they could only wait, wait for the searchers to leave empty-handed, and then, for soone else to notice their absence and bring the police.
Everyone silently sat down on the ground.
Just as Xiaoliu was about to sit down, she felt the cold dampness, and what truly made her hair stand on end was her hand touching sothing furry in the dark, which almost made her scream out loud.
Gu Nuan and Zhong Qiaohui quickly covered her mouth and nose with their hands.
"Do you want to die?!" Zhong Qiaohui’s eyes glared fiercely at Xiaoliu in the darkness.
Xiaoliu felt as if her eyes were glowing green, monstrous enough to devour soone, which scared her to the point that she didn’t dare breathe out; tears rolled in her eyes as she shook her head to indicate: no, I dare not!
Gu Nuan and Zhong Qiaohui slowly released their hands from her mouth and nose.
The next thing to do was definitely to count heads, to see if everyone had made it out.
After silently confirming each other’s presence, they suddenly realized soone was missing.
"Where’s Li Changzhi?" Xiaoliu asked anxiously.
Wa Zicong, Gu Nuan, and the others, hearing her tone more curious than concerned, looked at her skeptically.
Under the scrutiny of everyone, Xiaoliu had no choice but to reveal what she saw: "She was running in front of before. Then, she saw a restroom on the left and ran into it."
Anyone could realize by thinking about the footsteps initially targeting only their large group, that Li Changzhi had used their escape as a diversion to slip away on her own.
