Kang Yueting first turned back in surprise, looking at her older cousin.
Why did she just call her "auntie"?
It seed like her own mother and the others didn’t agree.
"Can she not?" Zhu Jiayin said, "Didn’t our little uncle ntion it? She already has our little uncle’s child. Grandma has long been looking forward to holding a great-grandchild. What can your mom do about it?"
"Does your mom think the sa?" Kang Yueting asked quietly.
Xiao Shuzhu’s attitude was obviously different from Xiao Shulan’s and Xiao Shuju’s.
"My mom always goes with the flow. Look how she left with my dad back then, so carefree," Zhu Jiayin said matter-of-factly, as if to show that their branch of the family lacked any utilitarian intentions.
Kang Yueting couldn’t figure out what was going on, only feeling that her cousin’s words seed right, yet sohow off.
Zhu Jiayin tugged on her sleeve again, pointing at Gu Nuan standing in the distance, "Don’t you think that if she really wanted to be a wealthy heiress, and didn’t say where she ca from, she could really deceive people?"
Looking in the direction of her pointing finger, Kang Yueting saw Gu Nuan standing gracefully like a lotus flower in a pond, and indeed, without speaking of her origins, Gu Nuan’s deanor was that of a refined young lady anywhere she went, beyond anyone’s suspicion.
"Our little uncle sure knows how to pick won," Zhu Jiayin pouted.
Kang Yueting knew that when her cousin spoke of picking, she ant that Xiao Yebai overlooked all sorts of ladies, heiresses, red-carpet celebrities, and only took a fancy to this woman from a poor family. Not just that, the woman was rumored to be deaf. It could only be described as selective, to an extre degree.
Even though her parents felt that Xiao Yebai was an alien from another world, she, born in the nineties and part of the geek generation, also considered Xiao Yebai an anomaly among anomalies, difficult for others to understand.
Yet, it seed that the male idol in their hearts had started to pay attention to Gu Nuan.
Ou Yanan’s gaze narrowed when he caught sight of Gu Nuan standing there, as if his eyes had beco fixed and unmoving.
The mood of the two young ladies was sowhat soured by this.
Suddenly, Gu Nuan pointed with her toes and turned towards a crossing corridor on the left, walking away as though she hadn’t noticed Ou Yanan’s presence at all, let alone the two girls hiding in the shadows.
Kang Yueting inexplicably felt a sigh of relief.
Zhu Jiayin said, "She’s not just deaf, but blind as well."
She was comnting on how Gu Nuan didn’t even seem to see the male idol.
"Maybe she only has eyes for our little uncle," Kang Yueting said.
Zhu Jiayin almost burst into loud laughter, "Is that possible?" she laughed, about to playfully tap on her little cousin’s nose. In their kind of large family, notions of male weddings and female love were a joke. Love could not possibly be a real thing. It was just like a dream, more or less.
Kang Yueting felt disheartened. Perhaps in so way, she truly hoped that Xiao Yebai’s wife was sincere. Maybe that would give her so hope.
At that mont, a voice ca from the corridor behind them—it was Xiao Shuzhu’s voice calling out to the two of them, "What are you hiding over there for?"
Zhu Jiayin hurriedly pulled her little cousin to their feet and walked casually towards Xiao Shuzhu.
Standing in the hall, Ou Yanan moved his foot, glancing from the corner of his eye to ensure those two hidden figures had walked away before he finally took long strides, quickly following the path that Gu Nuan had taken.
Gu Nuan was holding a teapot and slowly walking down the corridor, gazing thoughtfully at the bright floor tiles as she moved.
It wasn’t because she was wary of the two Xiao family young ladies that she had turned to leave. It was simply the thought of her mother being here. If Gu’s mother saw Ou Yanan, who looked a lot like Gu Sheng, what would Gu’s mother think?
