After investing the money, Grandpa Gu and Grandma Gu felt even more at ease. Keeping the money at ho or in the bank where it could devalue was not a solution to them. Fortunately, there was Xiaozang.

The elderly couple took the money from their hotown to invest, and then returned to the second uncle Gu’s house, only waiting for Gu Nuan to bring her husband over to face their ridicule.

That evening, Gu Nuan and Xiao Yebai, holding the fruits that Gu’s mother had helped them pick at the market during the day. The two elderly were quite picky, wanting to emulate the wealthy and insisting on the finest fruits. Apples had to be Red Fuji, oranges from the United States, the best cantaloupes had to be imported, and the durians had to be authentically Thai.

Buying a basket full of fruit probably cost hundreds, yet, likely, the elders wouldn’t even appreciate it.

Gu’s mother understood this all too well. The elders really liked what they liked, and no matter what soone they disliked did, they could only earn the elders’ disdain.

Therefore, Gu’s mother preemptively warned her son-in-law Yebai, repeating the sa words she had told her husband, "The two elders are stubborn, and you don’t have to do too much for them. A red envelope, just as a small token, will suffice."

Having heard from Gu’s father that Yebai’s family might be financially strained, Gu’s mother empathized with her son-in-law, not wanting him to waste money. She feared that the money Yebai was spending now was all his brother’s, and while it is good to have a supportive brother, Gu’s mother thought it wasn’t right to always spend his brother’s money.

Xiao Yebai flashed his bright white teeth, smiling at Gu’s mother and said as if he was a very obedient child, "Mom, don’t worry, I’ll listen to you and dad, and give the smallest red packet to grandpa and grandma."

Gu’s mother was stunned and, just like Gu’s father, found her son-in-law’s statent extrely peculiar.

Before she could inquire what sche her son-in-law was plotting, her daughter and son-in-law got into the car and left.

Gu’s second aunt on the phone had conveyed the ho address, so Gu Nuan and Xiao Yebai took a taxi straight to the doorstep of the residential complex. Then, Gu’s second aunt ca downstairs to fetch the two of them.

At the entrance, seeing the two young people standing there, Gu’s second aunt blinked. She just felt their attire was very humble.

Maybe it was because her own daughter worked in the city, knew how to buy clothes and dress up, and then, as the fiancée of a wealthy man, her style had dramatically improved.

Gu Nuan always dressed simply and modestly, not liking to show off. Following his wife back to her parents’ ho, Xiao Yebai adapted to local customs and also toned down his usually extravagant style.

In the eyes of Gu’s second aunt, Gu Nuan’s outfit devoid of even a skirt, in contrast to her own daughter who followed her boss who knew how to dress and make up, was vastly different.

"Co here," Gu’s second aunt waved at them, her expression indifferent.

Gu Nuan and Xiao Yebai walked over and followed Gu’s second aunt.

The three of them climbed the stairs to the new ho of Gu’s second aunt and second uncle. Second Uncle Gu was not ho. Only Grandpa Gu and Grandma Gu were there.

After unlocking the door, seeing the two elders sitting on the living room sofa watching TV, seemingly hard of hearing, they didn’t seem to notice anyone coming in.

Gu’s second aunt had to inform the two elders, "Dad, Mom. Gu Nuan has brought her husband over."

After calling out three entire tis, the two elders finally lifted their eyelids, indicating they had heard.

Gu Nuan and Xiao Yebai placed the basket of fruits they were carrying in front of the elders on the coffee table. Gu Nuan said, "Grandpa, Grandma, these are the fruits Yebai bought for you."

Yebai?

Grandma Gu’s eyes lifted, looking at the man standing before her, then squinted slightly: The man was quite pleasant looking.

Thinking about Gu Nuan’s previous boyfriend, Wa Zicong, who was also good-looking. Unfortunately, they were all penniless. So, what’s the use of a man being handso? It’s not as good as the man her second daughter found, who, although shorter and average-looking, at least had enough money to afford a house for them to live in.
