But this ti, no one was in the mood anymore. All being college freshn, for many, it was their first ti facing the police so up close.
Unlike the police images seen in movies and TV, when you face an officer in full uniform in reality, the oppression and shock you feel are very tangible.
Zhao ngyao: "I really can’t understand who would want to harm Yunyun, Yunyun is such a good person, how could anyone do such a thing!"
As she said this, Zhao ngyao swept her gaze across the other four girls.
Zhang Xin: "I believe that even if soone wanted to harm Yunyun, it wouldn’t be us from the dorm room. The police will continue to ask questions, right? They will question everyone in the class and other people too. It’s not like the poisoner is necessarily among us in the dorm room."
Zhou Shengnan jumped down from the bed and said, "Anyway, if I find out who hard Yunyun, no matter who it is, I’ll kill her!"
Tong Yanyan bent down; she slept in the lower bunk, while Zhou Yunyun slept above her, so so of their items were placed under the sa bed.
The plastic basin was pulled out again; the bar of laundry soap that had been there was already taken away by the police for examination.
Tong Yanyan pointed at the plastic basin and asked, "Who put a new bar of laundry soap in here?"
Everyone’s gaze turned to the plastic basin, but no one spoke.
Tong Yanyan asked again: "The person who replaced the laundry soap certainly won’t admit it on their own. I want to ask, did anyone see soone co to the bottom of my bed to replace sothing?"
Still, no one spoke, just shook their heads.
Tong Yanyan pursed her lips and continued, "If you saw sothing, please speak up now. Don’t try to cover for anyone because if she dared to poison Yunyun, then maybe she will poison you too!"
Wang Lunan wiped her tears and said, "I didn’t see anything."
Zhao ngyao: "I didn’t see anything either."
Zhang Xin: "This laundry soap, is it the poison? Or was it that the laundry soap Yunyun used last night had poison in it? Yunyun wouldn’t possibly eat laundry soap, right? Could it be that just by touching it, sothing will happen? Then wouldn’t the clothes you wore this morning also have a problem, Yanyan?"
Tong Yanyan looked at Zhang Xin with so confusion and asked, "What do you an?"
Zhang Xin: "I’m worried about you. Look at the attitude of the police earlier; they clearly indicate that there’s a problem with the laundry soap. Didn’t the police just co looking for toxins?"
Zhou Shengnan looked puzzled and said, "I also don’t understand, how is poisoning related to the laundry soap?"
Zhang Xin continued to explain, "Could it be a type of toxin that can be absorbed through contact?"
Wang Lunan: "If that’s the case, wouldn’t our entire dorm room be in danger? Wuu wuu wuu, I don’t want to die, I don’t want to go insane, wuu wuu wuu..."
"Nannan, stop crying," Zhou Shengnan called out, "What problem can crying solve?"
Zhao ngyao: "How about, we write anonymous notes? In case soone is uncomfortable saying it in front of everyone, we can write it down on paper and then open them together to look?"
Tong Yanyan spoke discontentedly, "After such an incident, what’s there to be embarrassed about? Yunyun is already lying in the hospital; if you know sothing, do we still need to save her face?"
Zhou Shengnan echoed, "Yanyan is right; at this point, if soone saw sothing and doesn’t dare to speak up, then that’s just incurable."
Zhang Xin: "I think ngyao’s suggestion isn’t bad, why not try it?"
Zhao ngyao took out a notebook, tore off five sheets of paper, and took five pen refills.
A sheet of paper and a pen refill for each, she handed them out to her roommates one by one.
When it was Tong Yanyan’s turn, she didn’t take it but instead shouted, "Really, just wasting effort, with all this ti, why didn’t we just tell the police directly?"
After shouting, Tong Yanyan got off the bed and put on her shoes.
Zhou Shengnan asked, "Yanyan, where are you going?"
"I’m going to the campus store, to buy new cups, toothbrushes, toothpaste, laundry soap, and I’m going to change all the towels too!"
Tong Yanyan walked out of the dormitory.
Wang Lunan looked at the paper and pen refill in her hand and asked, "Are we still writing?"
Zhao ngyao said, "Write, just in case. Everyone turn around to write; after you’re done, we’ll put them in this box in order, then look at the contents together."
Everyone turned their backs.
"Has everyone written what they should? Don’t turn around, one by one, put them in the box, starting with Nannan, then Xin Xin, followed by Shengnan, and I’ll be last."
After everyone had finished, Zhao ngyao shook the pen holder, then spread out the four pieces of paper in order. The first three were blank, but the fourth read:
"I saw Yanyan change the soap."
Silence fell in the dorm room.
Zhou Shengnan asked confusedly, "Who wrote this?"
No one answered.
Zhou Shengnan continued, "If Yanyan changed it, why did she take the initiative to bring up the matter just now, asking who put it there?"
Zhao ngyao: "Could it be that she’s acting, playing a thief crying ’stop thief’?"
Wang Lunan: "Do we need... to tell the police? Or should we wait for Yanyan to co back and ask her together?"
Zhang Xin got off the bed and walked outside.
Zhao ngyao: "Xin Xin, where are you going?"
Zhang Xin: "I’m going to find the advisor. I want to request a dorm change!"
...
When Tong Yanyan left the dormitory building, a pink humanoid paper fell in front of her.
She was furious and, without looking at it, stepped right over the pink paper.
Arriving at the store, after picking out toiletries and daily necessities and paying for them, Tong Yanyan picked up the public phone placed on the counter and dialed a number.
The counter was by the entrance, and in the shadow to the left of the door, Li Zhiyuan stood there, his ears trembling slightly as Tong Yanyan’s entire conversation fell clearly into his ears.
