Chapter 1296: You’re a Little Too Green!

With Domain Lord Liuli leading the way, she and Yi Tianyun flew swiftly forward. Yi Tianyun kept pace perfectly at her side, showing no sign of lagging behind.

Domain Lord Liuli glanced sideways, confirming that it wasn’t her imagination, Yi Tianyun truly could match her high speed. His incredible velocity was far beyond what a normal Heaven Monarch could manage.

This brought an extra advantage: deception. Opponents would let their guard down against a Heaven Monarch, only to be caught off guard by his sudden burst of power and speed.

“Right up ahead is the entrance to the sixth level,” she reminded him.

After passing through a dense forest, what appeared before them was a massive gate, quite peculiar in appearance. It had ten grooves on its surface, instantly making Yi Tianyun think of the “Ten Lives Heavenly Bead.”

It looked like these ten beads would fit perfectly into the gate, presumably opening it once they were all placed.

A large group of cultivators had already gathered in front of the gate, about nine factions in total, none looking like pushovers. Their cultivation levels were extremely high; in fact, there were several half-step Heavenly Venerables among them!

Though they wore masks to obscure their faces, Yi Tianyun instantly guessed they were likely Domain Lords of various God Domains. Just like Domain Lord Liuli, they had e in search of treasure or cultivation opportunities.

Since they were stuck at half-step Heavenly Venerable, they had a desperate need to absorb and prehend Heavenly Venerable Power. Unfortunately, no one had been able to reach higher levels yet, so they lingered on the fifth level. Now, with these unusual beads surfacing, they finally saw a glimmer of hope.

“Are you two among the bead-holders?”

A burly man stepped forward, he possessed half-step Heavenly Venerable power. He stomped heavily on the ground, unleashing an intimidating aura that pressed down on them like a tidal wave.

That was his way of warning newers to feel the pressure. If they indeed held a bead, they should obediently stay put; if not, they’d better get lost.

“Indeed, we have one of the beads.” Domain Lord Liuli waved her hand lightly, dispersing the oppressive force as though it were nothing.

“Your cultivation is decent.” The man, God Monarch Lu Yuan, narrowed his eyes at Yi Tianyun. Then he frowned. “So you’ve even brought a Heaven Monarch kid here?”

Everyone else present was at the God Monarch level. Not a single Heaven Monarch in sight. By the sixth level, any Heaven Monarch would typically be told to scram, ing here was basically courting death.

Even though this sixth level might look less perilous than the fourth, it was full of concealed dangers! While it didn’t feature the same kind of relentless assault as the bamboo forest, before Yi Tianyun arrived, chaotic Illusory Metal Power constantly surged, sometimes calm, sometimes violently raging. Any slight miscalculation, and one could be shredded.

“That’s not really any of your business, is it?” Domain Lord Liuli said coolly, eyeing the gate. “We hold one of the beads, that fact alone should be enough.”

“Fair enough.” God Monarch Lu Yuan then stepped aside. “All of us here are bead-holders as well, and I’m sure you’ve noticed this gate. It has slots for ten beads, fitting exactly the number we have. Once all ten are in place, the gate should open.”

“So, here’s the plan: each bead’s holder will slot their bead into its corresponding place, while everyone else keeps their distance. Agreed?”

Because there was no way to open the gate without the beads, if anyone refused to slot theirs in, it would remain shut indefinitely.

“No objections from us.”

“We agree as well.”

They were split into nine factions, each with only a small group of around three or four. That was enough, though, as forming coordinated teams was more important than sheer numbers.

No one objected. Among them were two other half-step Heavenly Venerables, and even they raised no plaint. If Domain Lord Liuli and Yi Tianyun opposed it now, they’d be outnumbered.

“We have no problem with that,” Domain Lord Liuli said, choosing not to overthink it. If everyone else was on board, she saw no reason to decline.

Once that was settled, God Monarch Lu Yuan spoke in a low voice:

“I started this, so I’ll go first.”

He strode over to the gate, took out his bead, marked with a “3”, and placed it into the matching groove. It fit perfectly.

Then he returned to his group, maintaining a distance of around ten miles from the gate. Ten miles was very short for people at their cultivation levels, it wouldn’t even take a blink to bridge that distance. But since all factions stood at a similar range, it would be “fair” if anyone tried to retrieve their bead or pull any stunts.

With him setting the example, others followed suit. While the Ten Lives Heavenly Beads were indeed precious, if these cultivators wanted to flee with one, they’d be giving up the chance to see what awaited on higher levels. Throwing away a watermelon in favor of picking up a sesame seed would be a huge loss.

Moreover, under so many watchful gazes, was anyone confident they could run off unscathed?

Before long, all beads were in place. Finally, it was Domain Lord Liuli’s turn. She nodded toward Yi Tianyun, then walked up to the gate, carefully inserted her bead, and immediately returned to him. As per the agreement, she kept the ten miles distance.

Moments later, the gate began to emit a faint radiance, which grew steadily brighter. Everyone squinted as the glare intensified. Then, just as the door was about to fully open, Domain Lord Liuli withdrew to Yi Tianyun’s side, as agreed.

When the glow subsided, they saw that behind the gate was not a typical corridor but rather a space and time great array, leading who knew where.

In that very instant, God Monarch Lu Yuan charged forward and snatched his own bead from the gate, then reached for another!

He wasn’t alone. As soon as the gate cracked open, everybody rushed in at top speed, launching the grand bead snatch!

“If we’re talking about speed, you’re all rookies pared to me!” God Monarch Lu Yuan sneered. He’d been so agreeable precisely because he trusted in his own speed.

After all, he possessed the Kunpeng bloodline, giving him an absolute edge in velocity. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so “generous.”

“I’d say you are the one who’s too green.”

He spotted a Heaven Monarch off to the side rapidly pulling beads free. By the time he had grabbed two, the other had already seized three!

The one contesting God Monarch Lu Yuan for the Ten Lives Heavenly Bead was precisely Yi Tianyun. As soon as the gate opened, he charged forward and joined in grabbing the beads.

He’d already seen through these people’s scheming. They all wore masks and spoke of fairness, but who would ever believe they truly meant it?

Sure enough, the moment everyone rushed in, God Monarch Lu Yuan immediately began seizing beads. Not only him, several other God Monarchs dove in as well. But their speed was too slow pared to Yi Tianyun and Lu Yuan; before they could even start grabbing, these two had already claimed several beads.

“Put that down!”

A half-step Heavenly Venerable bellowed from behind, slamming a palm toward Yi Tianyun. Yet a blue silhouette suddenly slid into place, swirling ribbons around and around in front of Yi Tianyun, colliding head-on with that palm.

Boom!

Both figures were thrown backward. Naturally, the one protecting Yi Tianyun was Domain Lord Liuli. Though her speed couldn’t match Yi Tianyun’s, it was still close enough to hold her own against other half-step Heavenly Venerables.

“If you want to steal from him, you’ll have to go through me first!” Domain Lord Liuli said icily.

That half-step Heavenly Venerable didn’t waste a single word in reply. He immediately darted aside to snatch another of the Ten Lives Heavenly Beads. After all, if he hung around arguing, he might end up with nothing at all.

As for those late-stage God Monarchs, they were out of luck. By the time they arrived, hardly any beads remained, most had already been scooped up by Yi Tianyun and the others. Without half-step Heavenly Venerable cultivation, they simply didn’t count for much here; they were basically cannon fodder.

From the start, it had been clear that they were only here to spectate.

After Yi Tianyun snatched five beads, he promptly returned to Domain Lord Liuli’s side, grabbed her by the arm, and flew off into the opened gate. “Let’s go!”

He didn’t linger. With so many powerhouses present, staying any longer would risk them being surrounded and robbed. Even if he grabbed more beads, he might lose them again in the chaos.

Domain Lord Liuli did not resist; she let Yi Tianyun pull her along as they dove through the gate together. God Monarch Lu Yuan and the others did the same, each snatching one or two Ten Lives Heavenly Beads, although Yi Tianyun had secured the largest haul.

Lu Yuan managed to get three. Possessing a Kunpeng bloodline and still ending with only three beads was a real embarrassment, made worse by the fact that he’d lost to a Heaven Monarch, the greatest humiliation of all.

Meanwhile, two half-step Heavenly Venerables each grabbed one bead, and the rest of the factions ended up empty-handed. Though they were furious, there was nothing to do but follow everyone else through the space and time gate. Since they hadn’t obtained any treasures, all they could do was hope for further opportunities on the other side.

Who knew when this space and time gate would shut? The chance to enter it might vanish at any moment, so they rushed inside.

Once they stepped through, they felt a terrifying pressure crushing them from all directions, making it hard to breathe.

“This pressure is insane! Move, now!”

They could barely withstand it and had to hurry onward. Even late-stage God Monarchs found it impossible to remain fortably. This was nothing like the earlier floors where they could prehend the Illusory Metal Power at leisure, this was an attack, not some free-flowing Heavenly Venerable Power.

Some refused to believe it and flew deeper in anyway. But what they saw ahead was no inviting landscape, only endless “yellow sand” swirling about. It wasn’t mon sand, though, these were golden grains formed by Illusory Metal Power. The gusts were so fierce they could peel the flesh off a person’s bones!

“Aaaah!”

From up ahead came screams as a God Monarch who tried forcing his way forward got caught in a swirl of golden sand, and vanished without a trace. Not even a drop of blood remained. They couldn’t sense his life aura anymore; likely, he was dead!

Just one pass by that gold-sand tornado, and he was gone. The power was unbelievably terrifying.

Many of the cultivators who had forced their way in took note of the earliest arrivals, especially those who possessed Ten Lives Heavenly Beads. Each bead-owner was surrounded by a thick protective shield that allowed them to stand against the raging tornado without harm.

When the fierce winds swept over them, they merely rocked a bit, suffering no real injury. Clearly, the Ten Lives Heavenly Bead functioned like a “pass” for the sixth floor; lacking one meant danger at every turn.

Now only four factions actually had beads, while six others either had to flee or push forward recklessly.

“Damn it! All the beads are gone, so if we want to move on, we have to get our hands on one!”

“But how are we supposed to do that? None of us are fast enough, and they’ve already gone in so far we can’t catch up!”

“Is our only option to turn back? Damn…”

Frustrated and unwilling as they were, some who feared death chose to retreat. Better that than dying here, especially if the space and time gate closed, trapping them permanently.

Others had no intention of leaving. They planned to gradually adapt to this place, learning to control its Illusory Metal Power. As before, if you mastered that power, you’d bee half a master of this realm.

But while they were hesitating, the space and time gate vanished with a whoosh, sealing them inside.

Those who’d wanted to test the waters grew desperate.

“No!!”

They lunged for the now-absent gate, meeting nothing but whirling golden sand. There was no gate left to pass back through. If they wanted out, their only option was to press on and find another exit.

Such was the plight of those without Ten Lives Heavenly Beads. Those with the beads had a far easier time.

Once Yi Tianyun and Domain Lord Liuli dashed inside, they sensed one of the Ten Lives Heavenly Beads radiating a continuous stream of protective light, shielding them.

But this shield only covered one person. Yi Tianyun had to give one bead to Domain Lord Liuli for her to be protected, meaning one bead safeguarded exactly one individual, it couldn’t be shared among multiple people.

“Good thing you grabbed several. Otherwise, only one of us could have entered. This environment is brutal; even the swirling sandstorm has enough power to rival a strong late-stage God Monarch strike,” said Domain Lord Liuli, surveying their surroundings. They had hurried to the cover of a nearby sand dune to get a better sense of the area.

“I figured these beads had to be important,” Yi Tianyun replied with a laugh. “Why else would they drop here and let us bring them in? Besides, they’re high-grade Heavenly Dao level treasure, so I’d have grabbed them anyway.”

Domain Lord Liuli rolled her eyes. After a moment’s thought, her expression grew serious with gratitude.

“This time, it’s thanks to you. Otherwise, I might have had to turn back.”

Her speed wasn’t particularly exceptional, and there would definitely have been conflicts here. If she’d e alone, she would have been at a great disadvantage.
