The Fallen Academy of Grigori. A secret school hidden within a separate dinsion, reachable only through a teleportation system controlled by the fallen angels.
Naturally, the students there were anything but ordinary. Every boy and girl enrolled had been discovered by the fallen angels because they possessed Sacred Gears.
Using research cooperation as the basis of their agreent, the fallen angels who acted as overseers ford partnerships with those human Sacred Gear users. The academy offered protection and education in exchange for assistance. A mutually beneficial arrangent.
Of course, to outsiders, the mbers of the Academy were effectively considered a branch of the fallen angels' forces.
But that changed yesterday.
"The old treaty's still intact, but now there's an added clause placing us under the supervision of all three factions. At this point, it's basically annexation. So the upper brass of the fallen angels still hasn't said anything?"
The one speaking was Tobio Ikuse.
At twenty-two years old, he was the wielder of the Longinus Canis Lykaon, also known as the Dog God of the Black Blade. Tobio was currently a second-year university-level student at the Fallen Academy.
"Who knows?"
Leaning against the wall with both hands behind his head, the white-haired young man, Vali Lucifer, grinned with interest. "I'm more curious about this new Governor. Soone strong enough to beat Baraqiel... heh. Wonder how powerful he really is. Hopefully stronger than I can imagine."
"And that's your excuse for picking a fight?" Tobio covered his face, sounding utterly exhausted. "When did you beco such a battle junkie, Vali?"
Back when Tobio was in high school, Vali had only been a grade-school kid. He definitely hadn't been this obsessed with fighting back then.
"Who knows~" Vali answered casually.
Stretching lazily, he stood up and looked at Tobio. "Speaking of which, you really can't contact Azazel? Aren't you basically his adopted son?"
Five years ago, Tobio had been rescued and adopted by Azazel during an attack carried out by rogue fallen angels. The one behind that incident was Satanael, who had been captured only days earlier.
Apparently, Satanael had needed powerful test subjects for so horrific experint, and Tobio, born with a Longinus, naturally beca one of his targets.
Azazel had saved him. And later adopted him.
Tobio was grateful for that, sure, but asking him to see Azazel as a father figure?
Yeah, absolutely not. That hopelessly perverted drifter barely qualified as a responsible adult.
Faced with Vali's questioning, Tobio replied dryly. "You say that like you aren't Azazel's adopted son too."
Just like Tobio, Vali Lucifer had also been taken in by Azazel after being identified as a Longinus wielder.
The difference was that Tobio had grown up in a normal family. Vali, on the other hand, seed to have suffered constant abuse and destruction at ho. He'd ended up wandering the streets after finally running away.
In a sense, most students at the Fallen Academy carried so kind of tragedy in their pasts.
Which was exactly why the school was overflowing with problem children and gave Azazel endless headaches.
"When I called him, all I heard were won acting spoiled and him laughing like an idiot. Before I could even say much, he hung up."
Vali sounded just as speechless about Azazel's unreliability.
"Sounds like Azazel has no intention of stopping you." Tobio pinched the bridge of his nose, expression uneasy. "But after what you pulled... does he really trust the new Governor to handle everything?"
Then he muttered, "I've got a bad feeling about this, Vali. I think you're going to get burned this ti."
"Who cares?" Vali grinned casually. "As long as the new Governor's strong enough to challenge, that's all that matters."
For him, fighting strong opponents was the entire point.
If Ryo was the kind of monster worth challenging... worth surpassing... then serving under him wasn't a big deal at all.
Compared to the alliance between the three factions, Vali cared far more about one thing: Was Ryo Yagami actually strong?
Just then, a male fallen angel entered the classroom. "Vali-sama, Kokabiel-sama requests your presence."
"Got it. You can leave." Vali waved him away before turning toward the stunned Tobio. "What? Surprised I'm working with Kokabiel?"
"How did you end up with that war maniac?" Tobio asked uneasily.
The fallen angels had plenty of extremists, but Kokabiel stood at the top of the list.
A survivor of the Great War, the man constantly dread of launching another invasion of Heaven. Among the fallen angels, he represented the most radical faction.
Vali teaming up with Kokabiel gave Tobio a genuinely terrible feeling.
"Kokabiel plans to attack when the new Governor arrives. He invited to join him." Vali stated it openly, completely unconcerned.
"And you agreed?"
Tobio's expression changed instantly, his body tensing with caution.
"Of course." Vali smiled like a predator eager for bloodshed.
"Have you lost your damn mind?"
Tobio was already considering whether he needed to stop him by force.
Protesting against the new Governor was one thing. There were still excuses for that.
But attacking the Governor directly? That crossed the line completely.
"What are you thinking?" Vali laughed. "Not that I'd mind fighting you, dog boy, but now's not really the ti."
Then he paused, amusent filling his face. "My plan is to ambush Kokabiel while he attacks the new Governor. I'm gonna fight Kokabiel first. Wanna help?"
"…What?" Tobio stared blankly at him.
"What do you an 'what'? I'm looking for a chance to duel Kokabiel. If I win, I'll use the achievent to challenge the new Governor. And if I lose, then I'll know I'm still not ready to challenge monsters like them yet."
"You... You're insane." Tobio was speechless.
"So? Interested?" Vali said teasingly. "If you help out, the casualties from the assassination attempt should stay pretty low."
"You seriously…"
Tobio ruffled his hair in frustration.
And realized, once again, that he genuinely had no way of dealing with Vali.
Seeing that reaction, Vali imdiately broke into a grin.
Right then, another fallen angel woman entered the room and respectfully announced, "Lord Shemhazai requests your presence at the First Educational Division to welco the new Governor."
"Looks like my chance is here." Excitent instantly lit up Vali's face.
"You're impossible."
Tobio sighed helplessly.
...
..
First Educational Division—
Several black cars slowly rolled to a stop in front of the massive school building.
Ryo stepped out from the center vehicle, raised his head, and narrowed his eyes at the structure before him.
"So this is the Fallen Academy?"
"Exactly as you see it."
A lazy-sounding voice answered him.
Turning his head, Ryo saw several figures waiting at the entrance.
Leading them was Shemhazai, alongside a beautiful woman with long golden hair and sapphire-blue eyes.
The one who had just spoken was the sleepy-looking blonde beauty.
"And you are?"
"Lavinia. Lavinia Reni." She yawned. "I'm one of the academy counselors."
She looked like she hadn't fully woken up yet.
Shemhazai glanced at her helplessly before stepping forward himself and bowing respectfully. "I welco Governor-sama to the Fallen Academy for inspection."
Within the crowd, Kokabiel bowed along with everyone else.
Head lowered, he concealed the vicious malice twisting across his face.
