The fissures in the Demon Realm were not limited to one location. So were simply larger, others smaller.
In the half-year before the battle in the East Sea, the Eastern Desolation, Western Land, North Domain, and even the Central Province all suffered from varying degrees of demonic invasion. The attacks were frequent and swift, leading to imnse slaughter in very short periods. This was regarded as a signal of an impending large-scale invasion by the Demon Race. The various domains, already unsettled, found it difficult to cope with this situation and sent signals to Nanzhou asking for help.
When it ca to such matters, the Great Immortal Sects naturally saw it as their indisputable duty. They dispatched a large number of their elites, and many Earth Immortals went to assist as well.
The Divine Province was vast. Even though the Earth Immortals moved with astonishing speed, road freely through the void, and were aided by Transport Arrays, traversing between the different domains still required a significant amount of ti. Furthermore, it wasn't a matter of simply going and returning imdiately. They did indeed slay a great many demons, yet no one expected the battle in the East Sea to erupt so suddenly!
Zhuo Canglang looked at the two pairs of furious eyes and stated expressionlessly, "We couldn't wait."
Many factors in that battle made it clear that the mont was the absolute best ti to attack. Any further delay, any unforeseen variable, would have dealt a catastrophic blow to the Human Race. The Demon Race's ambitions were vast, and their thods were terrifying. Even if the Human Race had deployed twice the number of Earth Immortals, had the demons been allowed to fully prepare, they all would have faced certain death!
...
Anyone who participated in that battle could verify this. Thus, countless people stepped forward to placate the two, each offering their own words to explain the situation clearly.
The two Earth Immortals fell silent.
Back when they were providing support elsewhere, they had been wondering why, despite the nacing demonic forces, no truly formidable foe had appeared. It created the illusion that a powerful enemy could erge at any mont, which kept them from leaving lightly. Looking back, the entire process had been deceptively smooth. It now seed that the demons on Demon Sea Island still had so connection to the Demon Realm and had deliberately created a diversion.
...
The funeral ended, and everyone dispersed.
Zhuo Canglang sat alone on a boulder, gently caressing its surface. Suddenly, a mory surfaced, and a smile touched his lips. It was right here that he had shalessly pestered Perfected Daoxuan for dozens of slots to the Ancient Sanctuary. The mory felt as vivid as if it were yesterday.
Gazing at the sun at the edge of the sea of clouds, Zhuo Canglang said, "Godfather, co back soon, and I'll take you as my godson."
He had barely finished speaking when a sound ca from behind him. PFFT! It was a burst of laughter, as lively and clear as silver bells.
Hearing the sound, Zhuo Canglang shuddered and instinctively turned to look.
A woman in a green dress stood under a tree. Her skin was as fair and luminous as jade, her hair cascaded like a waterfall, her legs were long, and her figure was exquisite. She stood with her hands behind her back, a faint yet stunning smile on her face that left Zhuo Canglang montarily stunned.
Sensing his gaze, the woman's smile quickly vanished. She huffed coldly, "After all these years, you're still as improper as ever!"
Zhuo Canglang stared at her for a long while before smiling. "After all these years, you're still so beautiful."
The woman in green paused, her lips moving slightly as she muttered, "Don't think flattering will make forgive you."
Zhuo Canglang smiled but said nothing.
The woman in green then asked, "Why didn't you offer your condolences?"
From the beginning of the funeral to its end, Zhuo Canglang had not once offered his condolences. It was the one phrase expected at such an occasion, but the omission was subtle enough that one had to be paying close attention to notice.
She's still as perceptive as ever. Zhuo Canglang thought. He turned his head back to watch the sea of clouds.
Sunlight fell upon him, casting a long shadow at his back.
"A word spoken is a debt to be repaid. I don't want to hear that word."
...
As it turned out, even though Zhuo Canglang had now cultivated to beco an Earth Immortal, many things in this world still did not go as he wished.
"My condolences, Sect Leader Zhuo!"
"My condolences."
"My condolences. Don't be too heartbroken."
...
The Sanqing Immortal Sect naturally had to hold a funeral as well, for they too had suffered grievous losses in the battle. The Fire Ancestor had fallen. Gong Shangyu, the First Seat of the Sonic Sect, had achieved his ultimate sublimation, burning away his very life to perform the lody 'Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix.' They had all died gloriously.
But was Zhuo Canglang sad? It seed not. His heart held little sorrow; instead, there was only acceptance.
Of course, part of this was because he was no longer that sa youth—not the boy who, upon first hearing the terrible news that his masters and grandmasters had died in the East Sea, had wept so hard the world went dark, feeling as if the sky itself had collapsed.
More importantly, he knew that those old acquaintances would eventually return. Although to many, those who returned would no longer be the people they once were, what did that matter?
...
The funeral at the Sanqing Immortal Sect lasted for several days, but the liveliest place was not Zuo Wang Peak, where the ceremonies were held. It was Spirit Turtle Peak.
The rear mountain of Spirit Turtle Peak was usually deserted, but now it had beco the most popular attraction in the entire Sanqing Immortal Sect. Every day, large numbers of young n and won ca to pay their respects, all eager for a glimpse of the legendary Saint Heir of Sanqing. Legend had it that he not only possessed talent unparalleled in the world, but was also a peerless beauty, the likes of which had not been seen in the Divine Province for ten thousand years. Even immortals who saw him would supposedly shake their heads in admiration.
But they were destined for disappointnt.
Wang Xiu was buried deep underground, with only a stone stele visible on the surface. There was nothing else.
"This is unfair to the Saint Heir of Sanqing!"
