Cypher worked all night, drinking piss-taste coffee that was available in the city. He wanted to finish all his work at the shop and take so days off, and head back ho to Lake Farm and work on the projects.
Even as morning arrived and Vik opened his ripperdoc shop, he was still working, fixing so horribly broken cyberware, and also the package he received from Gloria. The best thing about Gloria was that she knew her trade. She brought him the most decent cyberware.
A bit sleepy and tired, he finished fixing a tier-2 Adrenaline Booster. It had co from Gloria, and it was in a rather broken state, probably from a dead gangoon or sothing. Using his Sonic Screwdriver, he patched it up as good as new.
Should get at least ten thousand eddies.
Thankfully, finding custors was Vik's job, as he knew who needed what. He could even contact other ripperdocs who may need his goods. It was a pretty decent network of sellers and ripperdocs.
Ting!
Right then, a bell rang. His eyes fell on the clock first, already midday, about ti to head ho. But that chi wasn't related to the clock. It was a hint from Vik that he was sending a custor to him.
Cypher prepared to et them. He put away the Adrenaline Booster to the side and rolled a chair closer for the custor to sit.
"Hey, choom! Vik said you got preem chro?"
Uh, fuck. Vik entertains these fuckers?
Right there was a Maelstrom, a hideous one as they all were. This one was nearly bald with a lot of piercings all over his face. He was in an Arasaka vest, his chest showing the implants protruding. And on his face, there were three glowing eyes, the middle one was the largest and the brightest. His entire skin looked fake, with chanical lines all over.
Well, a custor was a custor. But he didn't understand why a Maelstror would co to Vik, because they had plenty of their own fucked up ripperdocs who did all sorts of surgeries and upgrades.
"Yeah, got a couple. I'm Cypher. What d'ya need?"
"Sweet! Na's Dum Dum, choom, no need to freak. Still got a couple brain cells rattling around up here. Need a fresh new optic."
Dum Dum jabbed a finger at the busted glowing red light on the right. "This piece of shit's fried. Pulled it off so dead gonk. Bad call. Now it gives skull-splitting headaches and burns like hell sotis. Vik already told it's cooked."
Cypher rembered that na. Dum Dum was one of the few in Maelstrom you could at least talk to and reason with. But he rembered Dum Dum having two more red glowing eyes, a total of five. Right now, he only had three.
Maybe not at that level in the gang yet.
"I got two options for you," he said, flipping a catalog open on his screen. "First one's just a standard Kiroshi optics, nothing fancy. But I also dug up this Kiroshi Clairvoyant, tier three. You scan with it, and it tags enemies within twelve ters. Sticks around for a full minute after each scan. You can zoom it up to six tis, too."
"That's it!" Dum Dum jumped up and nearly shoved his face into the screen, staring at the image of those optics. "That's it. Shove it in my skull."
"..."
Not the words he wanted to hear from a guy, but sure.
Cypher clicked on the item and started generating an invoice.
"You good with that price? Brand new ones run ten grand. I'm at eight, and I'll toss in a seven-day warranty. That should give you plenty of ti to test them and see if they're solid."
Currently, nobody offered any warranty on second-hand cyberware. Cypher was the first one, and that was because he was fully confident in his skills. He knew what he was selling was in the best condition. The only way for it to break was an external trauma.
"You got it, choom. Learned my lesson running busted chro before. Need the real deal this ti. Sending the eddies now."
Wow. A reasonable Maelstrom?
But that was it. He didn't want to mingle with Dum Dum or his kind anymore. They were too unpredictable to do business with. If he showed his skills too much, they might just kidnap him and implant borg-like cyberware on him, and make him their in-house techie.
Right away, he saw the notification in his AR glasses as the money ca. With that, he finished the invoice and got up to grab the eyes from the sterilised storage.
"Wait with Vik, pick a ti you want them worked on. I'll bring the eyes to him," he said, leaving Dum Dum alone there. At the sa ti, he shut down all his computers and picked up the cardboard box.
He was done with his day. It was ti to head ho.
Monts later, he went to Vik's side of the shop. Dum Dum was already on the operating chair, and Vik was in the middle of taking out the faulty eye. Though both of them were going to be replaced, since that was how they worked.
As a part of the deal, Vik would keep the faulty eyes. He would then fix them and sell them again.
"Here." He set the tal container down on the tool table by Vik. "I'm heading out. I'll catch you in two days. Misty's coming with , so her shop's closed today."
Vik gave him a solid nod, never stopping his hands as they worked.
"Be careful out there, Cypher."
"Will do."
With that, holding the box with his stuff, he walked out upstairs and entered Misty's shop through the back door. She was already done locking up her shop and closing most of the things, extinguishing all the incense.
"Ready?" He asked, passing by her.
He and Misty had grown pretty close over the past few days. Not to ntion, they'd hit it off pretty well from the first ti they'd t. Now, they eat together almost every single day. And every night before she closed her shop, he was there to chat with her. He had also repaired and upgraded most of the things in her shop, from the music speakers to the experience chairs where the custors sat.
There was an unspoken spark between them. Cypher's mind was mostly in turmoil and pent-up sensations, while Misty was strangely calm and sweet in nature, which seed weird, seeing her soft punk-centric makeup and dressing sense.
Cypher couldn't lie that he did have indecent thoughts about her. But at the sa ti, he kept them under control because having her as a friend mattered more. Especially in that city.
"Alright, let's move. Been ready, like, an hour already. Need so help?" She smiled softly as she stepped in, taking a few things from his arms. "Got us a rental ride. I'll return it when I'm back later. Oh, I also bought so cooking ingredients."
Misty was a really helpful person. She did things without being asked to. And she seed excited to see his Lake Farm ho.
"Thanks, Misty."
The car was a shitbox, an unremarkable, slow thing. A Mahir Supron FS3, known for its cheapness. But it was still a pretty practical van.
He put all the stuff in the back and got into the driver's seat, and soon drove out of Little China. It was a pretty long ride, from the top part of the city to beyond the bottom part. And in that slow car, it felt even longer.
But with Misty to talk to, it wasn't boring. She talked about all sorts of tarot cards, and he entertained her by talking about witchcraft and whatnot from the tis he rembered. Because all the culture and data from before the DataKrash were lost, the people of the Cyberpunk world didn't rember much about old tis. But Cypher ca from that era, and the things he knew about that ti intrigued people like Misty.
Of course, she had no idea how he knew all those things. But she found them exciting.
"Back in the day, horoscopes were a whole thing, apparently. I read about it. People took them way too seriously. Changed how they dressed, even ended relationships over them…"
Over an hour later, they finally arrived at the Lake Farm. It looked pretty much the sa as he left it, except for all the blood stains, the busted door, and the bullet holes. That was why Misty had co in the first place. She'd offered to help with cleaning and fixing his ho.
"Must have been intense. The firefight," Misty muttered, walking around his small ho, from the living area to the bedroom. "But what's with the burn marks? Was there a fire?"
"..."
It was hard to explain his DL-18 blaster's aftermath. He'd gone pretty crazy that night, trying to kill them.
"Feel free to step out and walk around if you want. Water feels pretty sweet, and waves have that nice soothing sound. Just don't go dipping your toes in it, yeah? Still kinda toxic. I'll sort this ss out in here."
"No, I'll help." Misty instantly got to work, picking up so fallen stuff. "I ca here to help, didn't I?"
He stared at her montarily as she walked around and… bent to pick sothing. Her latex-like skirt tightened around her hips, and a noticeable shape appeared, round, soft buns. Her smooth, fluffy legs were in full view, made flavorful by those fish-net stockings.
Ugh! No, let's not go that way.
