--- Kat ---
Kat had cleared the way for the rest of the group to co down and they were... doing stuff. Lily was focused on blocking those teeth, and with great efficiency. It turned out that whatever gunk they had on them was tuned specifically to eat through biological things. Perhaps intentionally, or perhaps it was just the most efficient way to make the stuff. Regardless, it ant that all Lily had to worry about mana-cost wise was the basic low damage impact of the teeth. The only issue is that there were still quite a lot of them...
And it prevented her from helping out more with the clearing. Chisel was going at it though. Big sweeping cuts with the sword to cleave into the monster as best as possible with Bruce following up with heavy strikes to mush everything else. That was usually enough to turn the resulting mush into goo that just fell apart afterwards. There was so concern that the monster was absorbing the goo... but it did still seem to be shrinking so it wasn’t sothing they were going to stop doing.
Furen had even started to help out. She’d picked up an almost comically sized rock for soone her sized and was using it as her weapon. It acted as a combination shield and mace for slamming into things. To strike with it, she’d throw it up slightly to move one hand to the bottom and then slam it down on the monster, squashing large parts of it but not always with enough force to goop it.
The main issue was that this was actually the second rock she’d picked up because they simply weren’t sturdy enough to put up with the abuse, especially when she needed to use it as a shield. It was extrely clunky to use but it was heavy and the large area it covered ant that she might be doing the most damage of the small group. Though Lily at least had the excuse that she was keeping the rest of them alive.
Kat anwhile, continued her path of destruction. The worry that it wouldn’t be enough was still high but with everyone helping her distract the monster at least a little bit she seed to be making more progress. It had been about a minute and yet no new attacks had surfaced. Sure it got a bit more creative, using the teeth as caltrops instead of a shotgun blast. Occasionally shooting the bone spikes ahead of her a bit, and the more standard biting and clawing attacks were getting a bit faster.
It just wasn’t quite enough. The teeth crunched under her feet with a bit of extra effort, the bone spikes were STILL missing, just by smaller margins and sotis requiring her to deviate from her intended path a little bit. When they were shot forward they really did overshoot by like half a tre, sotis more. The swifter attacks were in so ways the biggest problem actually. Even if the limb was always lost during the strike, they would have their own tricks occasionally.
Kat had taken a blow to the stomach from a goat hoof looking foot that had extended to twice the length right at the end. Knocking her back and driving the wind from her even as it froze and shattered at about the sa ti. Kat was honestly lucky that the thing was so bad at aiming because if the bone spikes had been shot at their normal spot one of them might have taken her through the shoulder or sothing. Alas, that impact had happened when it overshot forward so it still missed.
It was wakeup call though, and when the next trick ca up Kat was more prepared. A hand had snuck in amongst the rest that was slightly larger. It swiped at her and was certainly going to miss. Perhaps before Kat would have dismissed it... but the slight oddity in the size when they’d been so uniform ant she kept a bit of extra attention on it. So when it exploded into a second arm that swiped from the first, Kat was prepared and able to take out the entire thing with one good strike to its side.
*How are you guys going? I think I’m getting close to wiping out half of this ss... but I’ve got less then half of my demonic energy left, even if we include your reserves. I’m using a tonne of demonic fire constantly, and at a fairly high level too.*
[We’re doing fine. The acid isn’t hard on my shadow shields though testing it on the paper showed it eats right through that. Do you think you can perhaps clear up more of the centre, leaving the stuff at the edges and perhaps co over to to rest up a bit?]
*That’s... quite possible. I’ll make my way over once I get down to say, twenty percent or sothing?*
[That’s fine. As long as you actually get over here around that ti. I’ll be very annoyed if you fight your way over after hitting twenty percent and don’t make it back before you’re less then ten. Rember, your body likes to go into that regeneration mode once you’re below five.]
Plan established Kat dropped back into the flow of combat. With so many attacks constantly flowing towards her it could be easy to miss details. Luckily she’d learnt that lesson so she knew to force herself to keep an eye out for them, but it was still getting difficult. Especially when she needed to keep her mind running at a heightened speed to take in those details. The combat was stretching out, not just due to the intensity but the fact that subjectively it was taking a whole lot longer then it was in truth.
Eventually, Kat hit that fabled number of demonic energy had started to head over to Lily. It was a little later then she agreed, technically, but she was close enough and Lily’s group was moving around. Kat leapt over the shadow walls and dismissed her fire before landing in the centre. "Taking a break lass?" asked Chisel.
Kat shrugged, "I’ve used most of my mana," *Surprised I can say that. It’s not mana but... I guess it’s close enough.* "I could keep fighting but it’s better for to recharge."
Chisel shrugged, but as he did so, a small ball rolled from his pocket and towards Kat. She wasn’t really watching him, more focused on the monster surrounding them... but Lily was. She had been this entire ti. Sothing that was hard to notice amongst the gloom and the gri of the floor... was that Lily had extended her shadow not just around the edges as a shield, but through the cracks in the ground below them.
As soon as the ball hit the ground, Lily had it surrounded by shadow. A second later when it exploded, a scythe made of shadows cleaved Chisel’s legs off. Kat flinched back a little bit even as Lily wrapped the stunned dwarf up afterwards. Bruce faltered a bit, nearly getting him attacked by the monster and Furen... didn’t even stop hitting things with her rock.
"Bit brutal," comnted Bruce.
Kat sort of agreed, though more in the direction she was worried for Lily and what her reaction would be once things cald down. At least the dwarf wasn’t dead. Though based on the muffled noises he was making around Lily’s shadows he certainly wasn’t happy about it.
[Fuck him. I an, I sort of expected this to happen but I was waiting for him to literally stab you in the back with that sword. The grenade was honestly a surprise.]
*I was expecting him to wait until the monster was completely gone though...*
[Perhaps it was originally but you just admitted to being low on ’mana’ and he should know it takes a while to refill on that. Plus he just saw you take out most of this big monster here. If he let you recharge completely then well... there’s no way you couldn’t finish the rest of this off with a full ’mana’ pool. Plus, he was fighting as well, so he’d just be getting weaker while you were getting stronger. I’m not sure he had a better ti to attempt it.]
*Fair enough I suppose. It’s not what I would’ve done... then again I probably wouldn’t have done a lot of other things he’s tried. More importantly... are you going to be ok?*
[You were just about to be assassinated and you’re worried about ?]
*Lily don’t be obtuse. Even if your shadows covered it I can tell that bomb was nowhere near enough to take out. Even without my regeneration it still wouldn’t be enough. On the other hand, you cut off his legs.*
[Having legs is a fucking privilege and he lost it.]
Kat rolled her eyes as she continued to watch the monster around them and recover. Lily wasn’t wrong, and Kat knew that if soone had tried the sa to Lily the response would’ve been just as if not more severe... but Lily was also a lot more likely to care about what she’d done once it was all over. Kat... well Kat knew it would just be satisfying. After all, having legs WAS a privilege.
