Huo Jinnan murmured a "thank you," glanced in the direction of the disaster victims’ resettlent area, his jaw clenched tight, and strode over. After scanning the area and not seeing them, he could only hear the villagers’ cries.
Seeing Huo Bei walking over with a mber of the special police, Huo Jinnan stopped and stood waiting.
Having looked up to him for a long ti, upon finally eting the legendary Captain Huo, the special policeman approached, stood at attention and saluted smartly, his voice ringing out like a bell, "Captain Huo, sir!"
Huo Jinnan looked at the special policeman, lit a cigarette, took a drag, and the words "Che Huan" tumbled in his throat before he swallowed them back down, "Are the two groups of people who ca yesterday morning still in the resettlent area?"
Standing there in a formal posture, the special policeman reported, "Captain Huo, there was only one group. They seem to have co to Fangli Village to look for soone and are staying in the resettlent area."
One group?
Huo Jinnan’s eyes darkened. He swept a glance at the sky, as dense as spilled ink, "Wasn’t there a group that ca in a black Maybach?"
"Captain Huo, there wasn’t!"
"Skip the first four words," Huo Jinnan said, removing his riot helt and clutching it in his hand, looking towards Huo Bei, his voice as if it were ground out amidst sand and stone, "Prepare an armored vehicle."
What had happened?
Huo Bei looked at Huo Jinnan, only to see his master’s face rigid. He hurriedly went to carry out the order.
Huo Jinnan lit another cigarette and took a drag, feeling a tightness in his chest.
He turned around when he saw a liaison officer heading towards them, "Liaison officer, connect to the phone call from just now."
"Yes, Captain Huo."
The liaison officer stood at attention, turned, and marched back to the vehicle to get the communication equipnt.
Just as Huo Jinnan was about to walk over, he suddenly heard two barks, "woof woof." He stopped in his tracks, maintaining his original posture as the riot helt fell from his hand, splashing mud on his combat boots.
It was the regintal commander!
He looked back towards the resettlent area, puffing out a large ring of smoke, and followed the sound of the regintal commander’s barking.
"Woof woof, woof woof, woof woof woof—"
The barking of the regintal commander grew louder and louder.
Seeing a tentful of people staring at it, the dog rushed forward and fiercely bit onto Che Huan’s trouser leg, violently dragging her out.
Che Huan didn’t understand what had suddenly gotten into the regintal commander, thinking that a major earthquake was about to strike, "Chairman Qin, Xiaowei..."
Before she could finish speaking, the regintal commander had violently dragged her out of the tent.
In that instant, she saw a familiar tall, black figure approaching from a distance, fast approaching, and her breath suddenly stalled!
Her eyes t the man’s deep, dark pupils, and for a mont, their gazes intertwined, causing her to freeze. Was she hallucinating? How could he be here, dressed in military police uniform?
Huo Jinnan stopped, extinguished the cigarette between his fingers, and looked at Che Huan as he removed his military gloves.
Che Huan stared at him intently, with less than ten ters between them. The man stood straight, his neat military police uniform displaying his tall, slender figure to full effect, the moonlight casting his shadow long, projecting it in front of her, where it joined with her own shadow, neck and neck, creating a romantically entangled silhouette.
Licking her lips and swallowing, she listened to her own uneven breaths as tears suddenly surged forth.
"Huo Jinnan, is that you?"
Che Huan bit her lip and started to jog towards him, quickening her pace, her breath growing more rapid, and she didn’t even dare blink for fear that the figure before her would disappear as soon as she did.
