"There is actually a river inside here, wow, is that a crocodile popping its head out? Are those pandas? Even koalas, how amazing," Yiyi’s mouth couldn’t stay shut as she walked through, indifferent to the plants in the Biological Garden.
This underground biopark, hidden somewhere unknown, is larger than any zoo Yiyi has ever visited, with an innumerable variety of birds and beasts. And every creature in the biopark differs somewhat from those outside.
Just like the pandas she saw earlier, unlike the ones in zoos munching bamboo and lazily basking in the sun. The pandas in the underground biopark are only half the size of those in domestic zoos; they don’t eat bamboo and are carnivorous. They can agilely climb a tree over five meters high to fetch eggs from bird nests.
Even with Locke leading the way, it took Yiyi almost an hour to reach Quinn’s treehouse.
The delay was due to an attack by a few bald vultures encountered halfway. Fortunately, with Yiyi’s help, the two managed to proceed without danger.
"Quinn, you bastard, you even set me up," Locke’s broccoli head got misshapen while dodging the bald vultures’ attack. He usually walks just a few routes; if there’s an ambush, it’s undoubtedly Quinn’s doing.
"Not bad, Locke, this little lizard girl you brought has potential," Quinn sat in front of a screen mounted on the wall in the treehouse, divided into multiple squares showing surveillance footage, one of which displayed Locke’s route.
Although Quinn let Locke in, he still had doubts about the beastman he brought, so he temporarily released a few bald vultures to probe Yiyi’s skills, and from her movements, confirmed she was a lizard-type beastman.
Globally, such a category might only have this one example.
Before leading Yiyi into the treehouse, Locke was somewhat regretful that his earlier recounting of Quinn’s tough exploits might have left some psychological shadow on the young girl behind him, still naive. Seeing Quinn’s beard-covered, overly hairy appearance might frighten her into speechlessness.
"Are you Professor Quinn? You really look like a gorilla," Locke nearly fainted, wondering how the child could talk like that, addressing Quinn as a gorilla without even greeting first.
He feared Quinn might tear her in half, leaving him unable to explain to Xiao Xian.
Quinn’s reaction made Locke even dizzier; not only did he not mind, he actually grew interested in Yiyi while watching the video.
"When you fought my bald boy earlier, you were as tenacious as a lizard," Quinn’s bushy mane shook continuously as he laughed heartily.
The two left Locke aside, without any age or first-time meeting awkwardness, even municating directly with gestures, enjoying an unrestrained conversation.
It’s hard to understand if this is the beastman’s non-human way of interaction? Locke shook his head, shifting his attention to the Biopark’s surveillance screen.
After Zhou Ziang’s previous destruction, the treehouse has been reorganized.
Surveillant screens were installed on the walls, along with a personal puter used by the research institute. Quinn relies heavily on this puter for municating with the outside world.
Before Locke and Xiao Xian arrived, Locke was chatting with family in Berlin via email.
"Is that your family? You have so many children?" Yiyi exclaimed, noticing the family portrait on the desktop.
Foreign countries differ from China, especially since Quinn still holds German nationality. In Germany, where the population growth is negative, the government has enacted various policies encouraging couples to have children.
However, the size of the family in Quinn’s photo exceeds just government encouragement.
"Yes, don’t let my appearance fool you; both Locke and I are over fifty. Normally, I should be at the age of a grandfather in Germany, where the average age for marriage and child-rearing is often older. My wife Pei Lin and I have been married for thirty years, with ten children altogether, each having one or two children, one having two boys and two girls, so I have thirty-four grandchildren."
Yiyi was speechless; adding in sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, the total number in the Quinn family reached fifty-six. Such a scale usually takes four or five generations for families to achieve.
"Isn’t it said that beastmen aren’t good or even can’t reproduce?" Yiyi spoke shyly, being a sixteen-year-old girl yet to have a formal romance, feeling awkward discussing such topics.
"Haha, I almost forgot, you are a cold-blooded beastman; it’s certainly possible. It’s no big deal, if you want, I can think of ways to modify your body so that you can. You see, beastmen have certain beast-like functions. Take lizards for instance, they can lay hundreds of eggs at once," Quinn waved his hand grandiosely, as if modifying the body was the simplest thing.
"Quinn, you’re up to your tricks again, how did you make them separate?" Locke interrupted the conversation, pointing at the surveillance screen.
