dic Hong was a seasoned physician who had recently relocated to Rainbell Town. He had initially planned to stay only for a few months, as he enjoyed wandering from town to town to broaden his horizons and knowledge.
However, dic Hong soon found himself drawn to the eerie cases that seed to be prevalent in Rainbell Town. He had never seen anything like them before. There were patients who complained of hearing voices in their heads, seeing visions of the dead, and even being possessed by spirits.
Although most of these eerie cases required the help of local priests or exorcists, dic Hong was still able to observe them practice their expertise and thus learned a great deal from them.
When Madam Chen* from Orchid Alley’s famous restaurant "Lucky Pearl" sought his help to cure a young man who suffered from nausea and stomachache, dic Hong was not quite excited. Nevertheless, as a dedicated physician with moral integrity, he felt compelled to help said young man.
Madam Chen wrung her hands anxiously as she explained the situation. "dic Hong, it’s like this," she said. "Our Young Master is probably stuck in a difficult predicant. He requires utmost discretion."
dic Hong nodded in agreent.
"Madam Chen, I am neither a nosy nor a gossipy person. I shall keep my mouth shut about this young man, whatever his diagnosis turns out to be."
"Good, good..."
The young man was lying on a bed. He dressed like one of Rainbell Town’s residents, but dic Hong had never seen him even once. If he had, he would rember the young man’s exquisite face for sure.
Madam Chen closed the door behind her and waited outside the room to grant Xie Jianyu so privacy.
Next to her, Mingyu was fidgeting with a handkerchief nervously.
"Young Master, may I please check your pulse?"
"Yes."
Xie Jianyu offered his wrist to the elder dic.
dic Hong felt his pulse and fell silent.
His face registered astonishnt as the realization dawned on him.
He cleared his throat and checked again.
And again.
The dic turned pale.
It was such a ridiculous diagnosis. He was not going to go against the law of nature and declare a man pregnant!!!
What would the entire realm say about him? That he was getting on with the age and could no longer work as a physician?
"dic."
Xie Jianyu’s sudden call startled dic Hong.
"Y-Yes???"
"I know that I am pregnant."
"....."
A thousand questions erged in dic Hong’s brain.
How?
Who?
Where???
None of these questions was appropriate. Did he not just declare to Madam Chen that he was neither nosy nor gossipy?
"I need to know the baby’s condition," Xie Jianyu said calmly. "Please check thoroughly and tell ."
"Y-yes, alright."
A few minutes later, dic Hong wiped sweat off his forehead and ca up with a conclusion.
"The fetus is strong and healthy. The abdon pain might arise from too much stress and pressure recently."
"I see."
Xie Jianyu heaved a sigh of relief. The child was safe, that was the most important thing for him right now.
"Uh... If Young Master is interested, I can prescribe a few dicines to improve your health?"
Xie Jianyu shook his head. He was sick of taking dicines. Not to ntion that the last bowl of dicine served to him contained abortifacient.
"Thank you, dic, that’s all."
"Young Master, expecting mothers need to take supplents. Your complexion is not too good, and you also have a slight fever. Please do not underestimate your condition. Let at least prescribe so supplents for you."
"... Alright."
dic Hong left Lucky Pearl restaurant with a heavy heart.
He had just encountered the eeriest case of all -- a pregnant man among them. Alas, this was one case that no one could solve. The young man had to wait until the baby in his belly matured and give birth.
Just who in the three realms managed to impregnate another man?
dic Hong was suddenly in doubt of all the dical knowledge he possessed. Could it be that he was wrong all along?
n could get pregnant as well as won.
Then who impregnated the Young Master? Was it a man or a woman?
The burning questions were too much for dic Hong. He turned on his heels and went back to the restaurant to talk to Madam Chen.
"Madam Chen, the Young Master is afflicted with a mysterious disease," he said with a serious expression. "My calling demands to finish a job I already started. Please call whenever the Young Master needs a physician to tend to him again!"
Madam Chen’s lips fell open in amazent. Were physicians always this passionate about their jobs?
anwhile, Mingyu entered Xie Jianyu’s bed chamber with a tray full of food.
"Master, how is it?"
Xie Jianyu patted his stomach with a smile.
"The baby is safe."
Elation spread on Mingyu’s face.
"Thank heavens! Master, what are we going to do now?"
Xie Jianyu took a piece of bread from the tray and dipped it into a vegetable broth.
Yes, what should they do?
Xie Jianyu ate slowly.
"We will stay here for a few days," he decided. "And then, we will travel south."
Before the Xie family ruled over three realms, all of them lived in a small town in the southern area.
It was a good idea to nurture his pregnancy there, until he could return to Fuxi Palace.
At night, Xie Jianyu lay on the bed alone. His heart ached when his mind flew toward Zhang Fengxi. Last night, he still had his husband’s arms wrapped around his stomach intimately. He thought that Zhang Fengxi also longed to see the child soon.
It turned out that it was nothing but his wishful thinking.
Tears stread down Xie Jianyu’s cheeks as he sobbed softly into his pillow. After so ti, he eventually drifted into sleep.
Outside, a colorful bird with long tail feathers swooped down from the sky. It landed and perched at Xie Jianyu’s window, watching the oga’s silhouette through the lattices.
