Several hours later, Drake looked at the house he had built with his own hands, his expression complicated.
The good news: at least it was livable.
The bad news: it looked like a matchbox!
Although building houses in Terraria was very simple, all you had to do was stack itemized blocks together like toy bricks.
There were none of the usual complicated structural issues either.
As long as you didn't deliberately try to kill yourself by blowing it up with bombs or dynamite, you didn't have to worry about the house collapsing or being destroyed.
And yet… no matter how convenient it was, the design still had to co from Drake himself.
So, unsurprisingly, it turned into the shape of a matchbox.
Square, upright, sharp-edged, and filled with the solemn air of sothing built for burial.
This result was, frankly, Drake performing exactly as expected—this was how he built houses in the ga too.
It was only after actually having to live in a house shaped like that that it started feeling a bit strange.
"No matter what, at least it has enough floor space."
Drake finally managed to find one thing to comfort himself with.
In order to build this long-term exploration base, he had chopped down almost the entire forest near the spawn point.
What had once been a lush woodland was now little more than a bald stretch of flat land.
Of course, after all that enthusiastic deforestation, Drake hadn't forgotten to replant acorns on the spot.
These were items that dropped together with wood when chopping trees.
As long as they were planted in the ground, they would quickly grow into towering trees.
They required no careful tending, no fertilizer, and no watering—practically a miracle of reforestation.
Using the remaining wood, Drake made so simple furniture.
Even without tal, he could still craft things like wooden doors, wooden tables, and chairs.
This made Drake lose count of how many tis he had marveled at just how convenient Terraria's crafting system really was.
"Workbench, furnace, anvil, sawmill, loom… that should be about enough."
After arranging the various crafting stations he had made into a separate room, Drake felt a deep sense of accomplishnt.
This room would beco the first step in his conquest of Terraria!
Every workstation had its own unique purpose.
The Workbench could be used to make basic furniture and building materials, as well as so early wooden weapons and armor.
The Furnace could slt mined ore into tal bars, and could also fire bricks and make glass.
The Sawmill could craft additional furniture, though most of it was decorative.
The Loom's most important function was turning cobwebs into silk.
This was an extrely versatile material. Without it, Drake wouldn't even be able to make a bed.
And in Terraria, a bed had another important function besides being sothing to sleep on.
It served as a respawn point.
Without a bed, every death would send him back to the original spawn point where he entered the world.
And when entering the world, he could also use the bed as an anchor and co directly to his room.
"Master, I've put everything into the chests."
At that mont, Lili's voice ca from beside him.
She had just followed Drake's instructions and sorted all the materials and items she had collected into the chests at their base.
This chest was actually one of the treasure chests Drake had discovered during his last expedition.
After taking the loot inside, he hadn't wasted the chest itself either— he had simply carried it back and repurposed it as a storage box.
After all, even making a chest from scratch required materials.
"Good work. Go get so rest. There's nothing else you need to do for now."
Drake nodded and set a plate of freshly sliced fruit on the table.
"Try so. This world's fruit supply is actually pretty rich."
Besides wood and acorns, chopping down trees also had a chance to drop all kinds of fruit.
Apples, peaches, grapefruits, lemons, even pineapples and bananas.
After cutting down so many trees, Drake's inventory naturally contained quite a few of those unexpected bonuses.
Too bad he still couldn't afford a bug net.
Otherwise, he could have caught the squirrels, rabbits, and other little animals that dropped from the trees, too.
"Thank you, Master."
Lili accepted the fruit platter with both hands, looking a little overwheld.
Other than the elderly florist couple who had once taken her in, no one had ever given her sothing of their own accord.
Most of the ti, she had always been the one being exploited and pushed around.
anwhile, Drake simply took out a whole apple and bit into it while checking the items in the chest.
There were still several hundred units of wood left, so he wouldn't be short on lumber for a while.
As for minerals, he had collected so copper ore, but it was almost useless for the mont.
By comparison, iron ore was the resource Drake was consuming the most right now.
Crafting workstations required iron bars, and making storage chests also required iron bars.
Just making those things had already used up all the iron ore he had gathered.
As for making iron weapons and armor?
With costs starting at dozens of tal bars at a ti, there was no point even thinking about it.
All in all, Drake was currently in desperate need of iron ore.
'I wonder whether iron ore purchased in Orario could substitute for Terraria iron ore in crafting.' Drake thought to himself.
But even buying iron ore in the Labyrinth City would cost a large amount of valis.
With his current finances… it was more realistic to just keep exploring Terraria.
Besides basic resources like ore and wood, there were also so odds and ends in the chest.
For example, the gel dropped by slis was in there too.
That gel could be used to make torches and other items.
Now that he had unlocked the shop page, Drake decided to keep all of the gel instead of turning it all into torches at once.
It would be more useful to save it for later.
Speaking of the shop page… Drake opened the shop and sold off all the extra fruit he had left.
The fruit dropped from trees were all blue-rarity consumable items.
If sold directly, each one went for 20 silver coins!
At this stage of the ga, that was already quite a substantial amount of money.
After bundling up and selling all the fruit on him, Drake had once again accumulated the "massive fortune" of 3 gold coins!
"Finally, I have so startup capital."
Nodding in satisfaction, Drake began shopping for the next stage of his plans.
"The Piggy Bank and Mining Helt are nice, but they're too expensive for now, so I'll put those aside."
"I'll buy one Bug Net. That'll let collect small animals and bait."
"I'll stock up on so Lesser Healing Potions and Lesser Mana Potions too… although I don't really have any way to spend mana right now."
"I'll skip arrows. Better to buy so shuriken instead as a ranged attack option."
"And lastly… ropes!"
Drake imdiately made a bold move and spent 1 gold coin to buy a full 1000 pieces of rope!
That amount of rope was enough for him to keep placing it upward until it reached the sky themselves!
And that was exactly his goal— In a Terraria world with the Calamity mod installed, there would always be a spherical planetoid directly above the player's spawn point.
Hidden inside that planetoid was the very first Draedon Laboratory!
There were plenty of useful things to loot inside the lab.
Most importantly, Draedon Labs were the key clues for climbing the technological ladder of Draedon Tech!
If Drake wanted to manufacture all kinds of powerful Draedon devices, he would have to decrypt the encrypted schematics found in those laboratories in order.
The first step in Drake's plan was to head for the lab inside the planetoid above him and carry out a zero-cost shopping spree.
Preparing four digits' worth of rope was only the first part of that effort.
"There are less than two days left until the Molten Festival."
"If I convert that into Terraria ti, that's only a little over half a week."
"I need to speed up the pace of exploration."
Drake looked up at the sky hidden behind the clouds, thoughtful.
"Strange… I feel like I forgot sothing."
