When he woke the next morning, Drake felt refreshed and imdiately began preparing for the challenge against King Sli.
To summon King Sli, one had to use an item called the Sli Crown.
Of course, the boss could also appear during a Sli Rain event.
But if one wanted to challenge it deliberately, then using the summon item was the only option.
Crafting a Sli Crown required 20 Gel and a Gold Crown.
The forr was easy enough to obtain—he just had to kill so slis.
The latter, however, required Gold Bars and a Ruby.
In Terraria, gems were similar to ore in that they were materials that naturally generated underground, though they were much rarer.
The ruby Drake used for the crown had not co from mining.
Instead, while exploring the Underground Jungle, he had encountered a rare monster called a Ruby Crawler.
This was a special enemy added by the Calamity mod.
It would not attack on its own, instead fleeing once damaged.
After being killed, it dropped gems of its corresponding color, as well as having a chance to drop a special accessory.
Although the number of gems dropped by gem crawlers was not high, it was still enough to make the Gold Crown.
After gathering all the materials needed for the Sli Crown, there was still one more requirent: it had to be crafted at a Demon Altar.
These altars appeared in large numbers in evil bios, but also had a small chance of spawning in normal cavern layers.
During his very first exploration, Drake had already found one, so he could use it as the crafting site now.
"This should be everything."
After checking his gear and the supplies in his inventory one last ti,
Drake chose a place far from the spawn point so he wouldn't accidentally involve Lili, then took out the Sli Crown and used it.
At the instant he activated it, it felt as though the color of the world itself had faded for a mont.
A familiar line of text quietly appeared before Drake's eyes.
[King Sli has awoken!]
...
Attack, double jump, land, attack again—over and over.
The battle with King Sli had already lasted nearly an hour.
Even Drake had not expected the fight to drag on for so long.
Purrulu…
In the distance, the giant sli suddenly froze in place, its body beginning to shrink.
Its translucent blue gelatinous mass bubbled like boiling oil, sending splashes of gel flying everywhere.
Ordinarily, this would have been the perfect chance to attack.
Yet Drake did not even spare it a glance, continuing to reposition instead.
In the very next instant, the King Sli vanished out of thin air and teleported to a point less than five ters away from Drake, suddenly swelling outward again.
But since Drake already knew how the enemy attacked, he easily avoided the surprise strike.
Then, more than a dozen slis of different shapes and types were summoned, bouncing toward Drake from all sides.
Among them were not just the weakest ordinary slis,
but also Jungle Spiked Slis and Ice Spiked Slis, both of which could fire spikes!
"The sixth summon—looks like the boss is really low on health now!"
Rather than panicking at the increased number of enemies, Drake was delighted.
Whenever King Sli's HP dropped below certain thresholds, it would begin summoning higher-threat special slis.
Otherwise, it would only call ordinary slis.
Based on Drake's judgnt, the boss's remaining HP should now be below 20%.
Victory was right in front of him.
"I'll deal with the adds first."
Drake drank a mana potion and restored his mana to full.
Then he pulled out the Superheated Ion Blaster and fired a phase laser orb straight at them.
A scalp-tingling sizzling sound instantly spread through the air.
The mont the phase laser orb struck King Sli's massive body, it burst into a ball of superheated plasma.
Right after that, Drake kept pulling the trigger, firing high-energy laser beams one after another and blowing apart the weakened smaller slis one by one.
Ordinarily, Drake only had 20 mana, so using the phase laser orb should have emptied him out on the spot.
But right now, the armor he was wearing was Jungle Armor.
Besides providing much higher defense, this set also granted a whole series of magic-related bonuses!
[Jungle Armor: Grants 17 defense, increases maximum mana by 60, increases magic critical chance and magic damage by 6%, and reduces mana consumption by 10%]
This set paired extrely well with the Superheated Ion Blaster, letting Drake benefit fully from every bonus.
Its only flaw was that it didn't look especially good—his whole body looked rather green.
Aside from that, it was basically perfect.
Boom!
King Sli slamd back down onto the ground with a thunderous crash.
Its main way of attacking was simple: dropping down like a mountain.
If Drake got hit by it in his current state, he'd either die outright or be crippled.
Fortunately, King Sli's wind-up was very obvious, making it easy to dodge.
But as it neared death, a crimson jewel flew out from inside King Sli's body and hung high in the air.
"It's entered the execution phase!"
At the sight of that, Drake's heart tightened, and his nerves beca even more taut.
Once it released the crown gem, King Sli entered a berserk state for one last desperate struggle!
Its teleportation speed and slam frequency both increased!
At the sa ti, the crown gem continuously fired high-damage bullet patterns at its target until the battle ended.
It could be said that in the final phase of the fight, the pressure on Drake more than doubled.
Double jump!
Using the extra jump granted by the Cloud in a Bottle, Drake dodged another one of King Sli's falling attacks.
However, while in the air, it was hard to change direction, and a scarlet projectile fired by the crown gem hit him dead on.
It sent him flying and crashing to the ground, throwing him more than ten ters away.
"Tch…"
Drake ignored how miserable he looked and quickly pulled out a Lesser Healing Potion from his inventory and drank it.
But King Sli had already finished teleporting again, and its massive shadow fell over Drake from above!
"Damn it, there's no ti to dodge—"
In that instant of panic, Drake felt the blood rush to his head, his vision going red.
Only one thought remained in his mind: Go for broke!
Taking an item out of the inventory took only an instant.
In the blink of an eye, several black spheres with lit fuses appeared in Drake's hands.
[Bomb: Explodes 3 seconds after being thrown, dealing 100 points of indiscriminate explosive damage. The explosion also damages terrain and structures.]
These were bombs he had found in treasure chests and kept stored in his inventory.
He had already used a few during exploration to clear paths, and these were what remained.
And now, the place Drake chose to throw them was… right beneath himself!
The instant King Sli ca crashing down, the violent explosion swallowed it up in a cloud of flying dust.
And Drake's consciousness fell into darkness.
In the next mont, his eyes snapped open in his room in Orario, with prompt after prompt appearing before him.
[You have died.]
[Death penalty: You cannot enter the Terraria world for 24 hours.]
[You lost 12 silver and 35 copper.]
[You have defeated "King Sli"!]
"I actually killed it…!"
Seeing that last prompt, Drake clenched his fist, his face full of joy.
He had been sure he was about to waste a Sli Crown.
But in the end, those last few bombs had finished the boss off!
Normally, once all challengers died, the boss would disappear.
But there was a brief delay in that process.
During that window, the explosion's massive damage had completely erased King Sli's last few hundred HP!
The sheer dramatic absurdity of it left even Drake both amused and exasperated.
"Well, whatever. As long as it's dead, that's what matters."
Shaking his head, Drake quickly accepted the result.
As for King Sli's drops, he wasn't worried.
Because before the challenge, he had already instructed Lili.
If nothing unexpected happened, she would be bringing the loot to him very soon.
Before that, though… Drake had sothing else to deal with.
[The "Multiverse Travel System" has unlocked a new function. Please open the system interface to view it.]
That was right—after defeating King Sli, Drake's system had updated as well!
"If I rember right, it said beating King Sli would unlock a new world I could travel to."
Recalling the information he'd seen earlier, Drake opened the system with excitent.
Sure enough, beneath the original [Terraria – Calamity] world, there was now a plus sign.
"Hm? What does that an?"
Drake tried pressing it, and a new dialog box appeared.
[You have obtained one world expansion slot. Please choose an expansion thod:]
[1: Create a new "Terraria – Calamity" world.]
[2: Establish a connection to an already existing world, allowing travel to it.]
Those two options made Drake pause and think.
"So I can have multiple Terraria worlds… that's actually pretty useful."
"But I don't need that right now. The priority is getting to another world and finding characters I can contract."
He was still only in the early developnt stage of his very first Terraria world, let alone ready to start a second one.
So Drake quickly made his choice— the second option.
Establish a connection with an existing world!
