When the other Adventurers saw how blunt and practical his refusal was, they lost the courage to go near him.
August made it clear he couldn't promise his teammates' safety. If things got chaotic, he might accidentally hurt them along with the monsters. No normal Adventurer party would accept that kind of risk, so the crowd stayed away.
While everyone avoided August, sothing else was happening to Liliruca Arde.
So of the adventurers in the plaza recognized her, including mbers of the Soma Familia who had been watching from the shadows. Because the Soma Familia was known for being cruel and toxic, they weren't going to ignore this.
"Well, well, if it isn't Arde. Looks like you've latched onto a big shot," a mocking voice called out.
Three Adventurers, both beastn and humans dressed in rough combat gear, forced their way through the crowd. They ignored August and went straight for Lili.
"..." As soon as Lili saw the three coming toward her, she froze. Her heart pounded, and her ears rang.
These were mbers of her own Familia.
She stood still in fear, feeling as if her biggest secret was being revealed to all of Orario.
"Hey, sir. You might not know this, but Arde's got a reputation in here," the beastman leader of the trio sneered, turning to face August. "She's a notorious thief, known for stealing gear and weapons from Adventurers."
He shouted out all her secrets, trying to embarrass her in front of everyone and take away her new support.
The words struck Lili right where it hurt. Eyes open wide with fear, she stared at the three n, then slowly turned to look at August.
She couldn't keep up her act anymore. All she wanted to do was run away.
She looked at August, waiting to see what he would do...
"Au..." Lili's voice trembled. She wanted to make excuses, to defend herself, but she knew her past actions were unforgivable.
But then August spoke, breaking the tension and changing everything. "If she's a thief, why is she still a mber of your Familia?"
He decided to go on the offensive.
"Thievery is a stain on any Familia's honor. It's despicable. So, why haven't you kicked her out?" August's bold reply surprised the trio and everyone else. Instead of blaming the Pallum Supporter, he put the bla back on them.
"I..." The three Adventurers stamred, caught off guard. They never thought he would turn things around on them.
"If she's this kind of person, your Familia is clearly no better," August said smoothly, his voice echoing across the plaza.
"A garbage Familia led by a garbage God."
"You are the scum of the sewers. The absolute worst of the worst!"
August didn't hold back. He was used to arguing online and felt confident he could outtalk anyone here. If they wanted to argue, he was ready.
"..." The trio's faces flushed red with anger. They had not expected him to humiliate them so harshly in front of everyone. His words cut deep.
"What? Did the truth hurt your feelings?" August scoffed. "A garbage God leading a flock of garbage children."
August ignored them and turned his attention back to Liliruca Arde.
"Assuming we don't just resort to back-alley assassinations, how are disputes between Familias officially resolved around here?" he asked the trembling girl.
"A... a 'War Ga' overseen by the Gods," Lili stamred, explaining the city's custom. When two Familias had an irreconcilable conflict, they could petition the Guild for a massive, sanctioned proxy war to decide their fates.
"A War Ga, huh?" August lifted an eyebrow and gave a cold smirk.
He turned back to the seething trio. "Take a ssage back to your Familia. If you've got a problem with taking her, tell your Patron God to declare a War Ga at the Guild."
"TRASH."
August spat on the cobblestones in front of them, showing his total contempt for their whole Familia.
"Hiss..."
"Damn, what a dominant man," a group of tan-skinned Amazonian warriors murmured from the crowd.
Watching August stand up to and embarrass an entire Familia amazed them. The Amazons found his confidence and attitude very appealing.
anwhile, the other Adventurers in the plaza were loving the drama.
"YEAH! HURRY UP AND GET YOUR FAMILIA TO ISSUE A CHALLENGE!"
"EXACTLY! IF YOU DON'T DECLARE A WAR GA AFTER THAT, YOUR FAMILIA IS A TOTAL JOKE!"
"SHOW SO SPINE AND START A WAR GA!"
This was peak entertainnt. If a full-scale Familia war broke out, they could finally see the true limits of this monstrous rookie. Even though the rumors were only a day old, August's legendary carpet-bombing tactics were still beyond their comprehension.
And as the saying goes, whenever there's a show, the Gods are always close by.
"Ooh! Hestia's kid just provoked the Soma Familia into a War Ga?"
"What? A War Ga?"
"Hell yeah! Who's fighting?"
"That super monster rookie! Hestia's kid!"
Gods leaned out of tavern windows and alleyways, whistling and cheering. They weren't just looking for fun—they really wanted to see what Hestia's unusual child could do. His Falna awakening had already surprised everyone. If they had a chance to witness his true strength, they were more than happy to cheer him on. War Gas were always exciting.
"Don't keep waiting," August told the crowd of cheering Gods and bloodthirsty Adventurers, dismissing the chaos with a wave of his hand.
He turned away from the fuming Soma trio.
"Let's go," August said, heading toward the Babel entrance.
"Yes!"
Lili no longer cared about her Familia's bad reputation. She smiled and quickly caught up with August.
Soma Familia? Sorry, never heard of them.
For the first ti, Lili felt really excited. She didn't think twice about leaving her old reputation behind. After all, did the Soma Familia even have a good na?
Just like August said, if she was like this, the rest of the Familia wasn't any better—in fact, they were significantly worse.
"Arde, you little bitch..."
The trio clenched their teeth and shook with anger. They never thought things would go this badly, or that Lili would leave so confidently with her new ally. They were furious.
