The movie had been chosen by Mikoto. It seed that a movie the girl had wanted to watch had just recently begun showing.
The story was about a wandering swordsman with a cross shaped scar on his face, traveling through the early years of the iji Restoration, and the love, hatred, and grudges woven around him.
It seed to be adapted from a very old manga. Even so, it still felt fresh and interesting.
However, what surprised Shido a little was…
"I didn't expect Yakumo-senpai to like this kind of movie."
Shido said.
Compared to Mikoto's overflowing feminine charm, her taste in movies seed slightly more boyish.
"Shido, I was a boy before, you know. It isn't strange for to like swordsman movies, is it?"
Mikoto tilted her head and said, sounding a little dissatisfied.
For so reason, today's Shido seed to understand her far less than usual.
"Eh… Senpai was… a boy before?"
Shido froze when he heard Mikoto's words.
Mikoto was a boy?
How was that possible? Rather… where exactly did the girl in front of him look like a boy?
"Shi… do…"
Mikoto widened her eyes.
She looked at Shido and discovered that he truly seed shocked, as if—this was the first ti he had ever heard her say that.
"Ara, I was joking. Did I fool you?"
Suppressing the shock in her heart, she forced herself to wear a teasing smile.
"Wh… what the heck, senpai. You're unexpectedly mischievous."
Hearing Mikoto's words, and seeing the girl's "you got tricked" smile, Shido dismissed the doubts in his mind.
[That makes sense. There's no way Yakumo-senpai could have been a boy.]
Thinking that, he shifted his attention back to the movie.
However, at this mont, Shido did not notice it.
Beside him, the girl hiding her face beneath her bangs was staring blankly at the floor with unfocused eyes.
[Shido…]
Mikoto tightly gripped the hands resting on her knees, and an indescribable chill spread through her entire body.
Everything before her was far too unbelievable.
Shido really did not rember.
He did not rember that she had once been a boy.
Even though Natsumi had found out too, it was still clearly the most important secret between the two of them. Unless he had burned his brain out with a fever, there was no way he could forget sothing like that.
[Um… may I ask who you are?]
Thinking back, since two days ago, Shido had started speaking to her as if facing a stranger.
[Impossible… this has to be a lie… there must be so mistake…]
The girl's body trembled as she desperately tried to deny the thought in her heart.
[Even if there's only the smallest possibility, please tell I'm wrong.]
She prayed in her heart. (TL:mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn I feel incredibly frustrated right now)
However, the more she thought back on everything that had happened, the more she realized that only one explanation could perfectly explain it all.
Shido had lost his mories of her.
And like that, in the chaos of the girl's thoughts, the movie ended.
Although it was a happy ending, Mikoto's heart could no longer resonate with it at all.
"Shido, there's sowhere I want to go."
After the movie ended, Mikoto, who had remained silent for a long ti, suddenly turned to Shido and said so.
"Eh? Mm, sure."
Although it was already rather late, considering that Mikoto had beco extrely downcast during the latter half of the movie, Shido decided to accompany her a little longer.
"Thank you."
Mikoto nodded and brought Shido to—Raizen High School.
Shido, who had absolutely no idea why she had brought him here, had ten thousand question marks popping up in his mind.
However… he had a very bad feeling.
"Hey, Shido, do you rember? The ti we had a date together at school."
Mikoto asked with a smile.
"Eh? Ah… I… I rember…"
Shido scratched his cheek, his heart pounding violently from nervousness.
Unfortunately, he had no mory whatsoever of dating Mikoto at school.
"How was that swimsuit that day? Actually, I've been thinking about choosing a new swimsuit. Let's go swimming together again soti."
Mikoto said.
"Eh… mm, it… it really suited you, senpai… the swimsuit…"
[Was the date at the school pool?]
Shido thought about it and followed along with Mikoto's words.
"I see… so that's how it is…"
Hearing Shido's answer, the girl could no longer hold back. Even though she tried hard to force out a smile, tears still flowed uncontrollably down her face. (TL:aaaaaaaaa, fuck this,I feel so bad)
Sobbing, she looked at Shido and said,
"Shido… you really did forget ."
[!!!]
Hearing Mikoto's words, Shido's eyes widened in shock.
When?
When had Mikoto realized everything without him noticing?
"Um… that's not…"
He wanted to explain.
"Please don't lie to anymore!"
However, Mikoto's voice cut him off.
"Shido forgot everything, didn't you? You don't know that 'adult flavor' actually ans spicy. You don't know the ga we played together on our date. You don't know the movie we watched together. And you don't even know… don't even know…"
[You don't even know that I was a boy before I crossed over.]
It was clearly an extrely, extrely important secret. A secret that had originally belonged only to the two of them.
Although Natsumi had learned it in the end too, precisely because of that, she had co to realize in despair that the Shido before her absolutely could not be Natsumi in disguise.
"Our school date was playing basketball together…"
[!!!]
Hearing Mikoto's words, Shido finally realized just how foolish his earlier answer had been.
Just like what he had seen in the recordings yesterday, the girl before him would not imdiately explode over sothing she suspected. Instead, she would carefully set a trap, and by the ti he stepped into it, it would already be too late.
In other words, Mikoto had completely confird that he had lost his mories of her.
There was no longer any room to turn things around.
"Hey, please. Tell what happened."
Mikoto asked through tears, her voice pleading.
"Actually…"
There was no other way.
Shido could only tell her the truth.
From the forr world, to how he had changed history.
"Wh… what is that…"
After listening, Mikoto froze completely.
What was Shido even saying?
Going back to the past? Changing history?
It was not that she could not understand it. But—she could not accept it at all.
It was as if a stranger had replaced the Shido she knew.
As she thought that, the boy before her suddenly felt terribly unfamiliar.
"Senpai… I…"
Seeing Mikoto slowly back away with a frightened expression, Shido stepped forward, trying to say sothing.
However…
"Don't co near !"
A trendous burst of spiritual power exploded outward, sending him flying.
"Yakumo… senpai…"
Shido slamd heavily onto the ground, the impact making his whole body feel as if it were about to fall apart.
He struggled to raise his head and saw the girl running away, gradually disappearing into the night.
