On September 8th, after sumr vacation had ended, the gymnasium of Raizen High School was wrapped in a strange atmosphere.
Even though the girl standing on stage was an extrely popular senpai, the Yamato Nadeshiko of Tengu City, every student was avoiding her gaze.
The reason was simple.
Just a few seconds earlier, Mikoto had stood on the stage and said this:
"Um… everyone in charge of managing the Tenou Festival, including Student Council President Kirisaki, has collapsed from overwork. Is there anyone willing to step up at this critical mont and beco an executive committee mber for the Tenou Festival?"
The Tenou Festival was a large cultural festival jointly held by ten schools within Tengu City. It was so lively that it even rented out the entire Tengu City Plaza and ran for three whole days.
Of course, the level of excitent was always equal to the amount of hard work needed. Just as Mikoto had said, everyone in the student council had already completely collapsed because of this festival.
That was why no one wanted to take the job.
Even if the cute senpai was standing on stage and asking for help.

Shido tried to stop him, but since he was currently being pulled by Tohka, Kaguya, and Yuzuru, he had to endure the terrifying strength of the Spirits, like he was trapped in a stretching machine.
Taking advantage of Shido being unable to speak, the boys began raising their voices one after another.
"I agree! We're counting on you, Itsuka-kun!"

"I agree! You bastard, go work yourself into the hospital as slave labor!"

Mikoto shouted from the stage.
For one brief mont, Shido thought the girl would help him escape this situation.

"I have heard everyone's opinions. Then… I hereby announce that Itsuka Shido-kun from Class 2-4…"
The mont they heard Shido's na, the boys, thinking their plan had succeeded, burst into cheers.

"And Yakumo Mikoto from Class 3-2, aning myself, will serve as executive committee mbers for the Tenou Festival!"
The second half of the girl's sentence fell like a bucket of cold water, putting out everyone's excitent.
For a mont, the gymnasium fell completely silent.

The sudden quiet made Mikoto a little lost.

Facing Shido's question, the girl laughed guiltily.
"Right, Shido. For the next two classes, let's split up. Shido, you go to Class 2-3. I'll go to Class 2-4."
"That's fine, but why?"
They had been moving together the whole ti, so for so reason, Mikoto's sudden suggestion to split up and inspect different classes felt strange.
"Um… you know, splitting up is more efficient, right?"

Although her reason was correct, the girl's guilty smile made him feel there was sothing more behind it.
"Co to think of it, what was our class activity again?"
"A haunted house. A haunted house. It's a classic cultural festival event."
At that mont, several students walked past the two of them. Shido recognized them. They were from Class 2-3, the class he was supposed to visit.

So he nodded.
Now he understood exactly why Mikoto had wanted a helper.

The girl's embarrassed expression was so cute that Shido could not help reaching out and gently patting Mikoto on the head.

Although she had known she would not be able to hide it, being exposed in such an unexpected place still made Mikoto blush. To cover her embarrassnt, the girl pleaded with him in a slightly spoiled tone.

Looking at the slightly proud Shido, Mikoto said that with a warm smile.
