Under Yutsuki's questioning, Shido began to explain everything that had happened over the past few days.
The Spirit Hoshimiya Mukuro being found by DEM and attacking Earth;
Shido and the other Spirits going into space to find her;
Shido unlocking Mukuro's heart, then going on a date with the changed Mukuro, planning to seal her Spirit energy; and finally, waking up today to find that everyone had lost their mories of him.
He also explained his own identity and the fact that he and Yutsuki's group originally knew each other.
"That is everything I know. Yutsuki, you—"
Growl—!
But before Itsuka Shido could finish his sentence, his stomach made its presence known, letting out a loud protest first.
Shido quickly covered his stomach, his cheeks burning with embarrassnt.
Yutsuki gave a light laugh and asked,
"Are you hungry?"
"...Mhm."
Shido nodded awkwardly. He had been kicked out of the house this morning before eating breakfast, and then he had been running around everywhere looking for the other Spirits. Now that his emotions had cald down, his body naturally sent a signal that his stomach was empty.
"Well, I figured sothing like this would happen."
Yutsuki sighed and took a thermos and a bento box out of the backpack she was carrying.
"Here. It might be a bit cold, but if you do not mind, eat this for now."
"Thank you, Yutsuki."
Shido took the bento gratefully. When he opened it, he saw a box filled with white rice, fragrant grilled fish, a fried egg, and a few pieces of bacon on the side. The thermos contained miso soup.
Shido widened his eyes in surprise.
"Is this not the breakfast I made this morning?"
Yutsuki nodded.
"Mhm. Before I ca here, I took the food you made and the leftovers from this morning, heated them up in the microwave, and packed them together. I did not have much ti, so is it okay if it is just a simple al?"
"Mhm, of course. Thanks, Yutsuki. I am digging in."
Shido shook his head, put his hands together for a quick prayer, and then picked up the chopsticks to taste the food.
"Mhm, it is really good."
"Well, when you are starving, as long as it is not literal garbage, most food will taste good."
Watching Shido eat with such enjoynt, a small smile appeared on Yutsuki's lips.
"U-Um, Yutsuki, is there sothing on my face?"
It was a bit uncomfortable being stared at while eating, so Shido asked a bit shyly.
"Ah, how rude of ." Yutsuki sighed softly and said calmly, "First, I should apologize to you, Itsuka-boy."
"Eh? Why?"
Shido asked, confused.
"After I kicked you out this morning, I saw the breakfast you left in the kitchen. Because I was worried there might be so kind of drug in it, I threw everything away except for the portion you are holding now."
After a simple explanation, Yutsuki looked at the bento in Shido's hand, which was mostly eaten, and shrugged with a bitter smile.
"But looking at it now, I guess I was worrying for nothing."
Hearing Yutsuki's words, Shido froze for a mont. He did not know that Yutsuki had not prepared the food out of kindness, but was secretly testing him because she suspected his identity.
"I see..."
Shido forced out these words, his grip on the chopsticks tightening. Being suspected by his precious family made him feel very sad.
However, even though it hurt, Yutsuki herself had done nothing wrong. Losing her mory was not sothing she did on purpose. Whether it was throwing out the food or testing Shido out of caution, it was all to make sure she would not cause harm to Tohka and the others. In fact, Yutsuki's calm and careful personality had helped Shido more tis than he could count.
And even without her mories, the fact that Yutsuki was willing to et him like this was already a huge help to Shido.
(I have to make everyone get their mories back quickly!)
He made a silent vow in his heart. Shido picked up the bento and quickly finished the rest of the food.
"Full? If not, I can go to the convenience store and buy a bit more."
"No, this is enough." Shido shook his head and asked, "Yutsuki, what do you think happened?"
"That is true... Well, although there is no proof right now that what you said is true, you do not look like the type to play tricks, Itsuka-boy. I will think about it based on the idea that your words are true."
Saying this, Yutsuki thought for a mont, then spoke.
"First, let correct a mistake in your thinking, Itsuka-boy."
"A mistake?"
"You seem to think that after waking up today, everyone only lost their mories of you. But actually, comparing it to your information, I realized that besides you, I also forgot about another person."
"Who is it... could it be..."
Shido asked instinctively, but as the words left his mouth, he already had a guess about who Yutsuki ant.
"Mukuro?"
"Mhm."
Yutsuki nodded, confirming Shido's guess.
"Three days ago, a teorite fell on the school yard. I have mories of everyone going to the Ratatoskr base, being attacked by Westcott, and then going into space to fight the DEM fleet. But as for the cause of all that, the Spirit nad Hoshimiya Mukuro you ntioned, I have no mory of her at all."
Hearing Yutsuki's words, Shido frowned.
"Are you saying soone erased everyone's mories of both and Mukuro for so reason?"
Regarding Shido's guess, Yutsuki showed a thoughtful expression and continued.
"Mhm... while your guess is possible, I think the situation might be even simpler. Itsuka-boy, when you found out people did not know you, did you run around looking for people who had not lost their mories?"
"Hm? Yes, I did."
"Then why has Mukuro, who should also be forgotten by everyone, not done the sa thing as you?"
"?!"
Realizing what Yutsuki was trying to say, Shido widened his eyes in shock.
It was true. Usually, when soone finds out they have been forgotten, they would desperately look for people who know them, just like Shido. but from the ti he woke up until now, Mukuro had not co looking for him at all.
"Could it be that Mukuro is the one who erased your mories, Itsuka-boy?"
"But Mukuro was still in space until the day before yesterday. She has no friends besides and you all. Maybe she just has not realized she was forgotten yet."
Shido offered his own view. Yutsuki did not deny it and continued.
"But that Spirit Hoshimiya Mukuro's Angel—it is called Michael, right? Is it not a conceptual Angel that can control closing and opening? Since she was confident enough to stop the rotation of the entire Earth, then locking away the information of a specific person from the whole world should be possible too, right?"
Hearing Yutsuki's theory, Shido was speechless for a mont. Indeed, looking at the information they had, if this phenonon was not natural but caused by a person, Hoshimiya Mukuro was undoubtedly the most suspicious person right now.
"But... why would she do that?"
However, Shido still found the conclusion hard to accept and muttered softly.
"Well, even if you ask , I do not know that Spirit nad Mukuro right now, so how would I know her motive?" Yutsuki shrugged helplessly and asked Shido back, "Besides, Itsuka-boy, even if I do not understand why you do not want to suspect her, you, who has the mories of these past few days, should know better than I do, right?"
"That..."
Shido was at a loss for words.
It was true. Just yesterday when the date ended, Mukuro had very obediently said she was willing to seal her Spirit energy, but before the sealing, Shido had to cut ties with all the other Spirits.
[Muku's Nushi-sama is truly a gentle person. Nushi-sama can relax, leave everything to Muku.]
Even though Shido had seriously refused and explained why to Mukuro, when he connected it to what she said before she left, it was not strange at all to say that everything happening today was her doing.
(Why did I never think of this? Is it because I wanted to help Mukuro so much that I did not want to look at her with eyes of suspicion?)
No, that was not it. Shido bit his lip in bitterness.
[But Shido, have you ever thought about what kind of person Mukuro would be after unlocking her heart?]
(Is it just that I do not want to admit that everything Yutsuki said was correct?)
Realizing his own stupidity, Shido clenched his teeth tightly.
"Hmph... it looks like you have thought of the reason."
Noticing Shido's expression, Yutsuki sighed, swung her legs, and stood up from the swing.
"Alright, the question I was curious about has been answered. I should get going now."
"Yutsuki, where are you going?"
Seeing Yutsuki suddenly get up, Shido looked confused.
"School. I skipped the morning classes, but if I go now for the afternoon classes, I should still make it. Well then, goodbye, Itsuka-boy."
"Eh?"
Seeing Yutsuki really just say goodbye and walk toward the park exit, Shido was stunned for a mont, then hurriedly got up and chased after her.
"W-Wait! Wait, Yutsuki!"
"Hm? Is there sothing else, Itsuka-boy?"
Feeling Yutsuki's confused gaze, Shido felt a bit lost for a mont.
"Um... Yutsuki, are you going to school because you thought of a way to get the mories back? If so, can you tell ?"
"No. I am just going to class."
Yutsuki shook her head and gave a very normal answer.
"Eh? Why?"
"I am telling you, Itsuka-boy... have you misunderstood sothing?"
Seeing Shido's completely dumbfounded face, Yutsuki sighed speechlessly.
"I only ca to find you to confirm the current situation. I never said I was going to help you. If you consider it paynt for providing information, I think helping you figure out the real culprit who locked the mories is more than enough, right?"
"What..."
Shido did not know what to say for a mont.
He only now noticed that even though he had told Yutsuki everything, including his na, Yutsuki had been calling him "Itsuka-boy" the whole ti.
Even though Yutsuki said she would think based on his words, she never said she believed him.
From start to finish, Yutsuki was not treating Itsuka Shido as family, but as a completely ordinary stranger. That was all.
"From your description, Mukuro was not unhappy with her life at first, and she was not causing harm to her surroundings. It was you who ignored Mukuro's wishes and forced open her heart. Then Mukuro developed feelings for you and locked away everyone's mories of you just so you would not have too much contact with other Spirits. And although you did not say it, if it were , I definitely would have told you about this possibility beforehand. In other words—"
Looking at Shido, whose face was looking worse and worse, Yutsuki sighed and asked calmly,
"Is all of this not just your own self-inflicted ss?"
