Peter, who was in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles preparing to head over to Mary Jane's film set with two others, now faced a rather awkward problem - if they stick to their original plan, with one person distracting Mary Jane while the other two investigate the film set, then who should be the one to act alone?
Ordinarily, it made sense for Harry, who was Mary Jane's boyfriend, to be the one to distract her. An excuse was easy to co up with, such as surprising her because she's been working so hard. It would be simple enough to lead Mary Jane elsewhere, and then allow the two Spider-Mans to enter the filming set and investigate any suspicious characters.
But, there's a problem. If Harry left, and Middle-aged Peter stayed behind with Peter, Middle-aged Peter would definitely ask Peter what the purpose of the plan was.
How could Peter explain that the plan was actually to help Little Green Demon win back another person's wife from another cosmos?
If Peter and Harry stayed behind, Peter would face the sa issue. Harry would definitely ask him about the sudden appearance of Peter from another cosmos, which would inevitably lead to a discussion of Middle-aged Peter Parker's life experiences—he had married and divorced Mary Jane, remarried, and even had a cute little daughter.

Just as Peter was about to hang up, he seed to rember sothing, "You ntioned that he might be colluding with those who have been vilifying ... I believe there might be so misunderstanding. Soone might be trying to set him up."
"Shadow Spider-man, could you leave a note for Mr. Jason asking him to leave New York for a bit? I am worried about him getting involved in so kind of trouble. After all, he's one of the few conscientious editors in New York..."
Shadow Spider-man said sothing on the other end of the phone. Peter lowered his head and sighed, "I know, I just think it's not worth getting into a feud with them. That's all, goodbye."
