When she knocked down Captain Boorang earlier, Pala noticed that the most troubleso one, El Diablo, who had fla abilities, was on the second floor.
This guy's abilities could be considered the strongest in the X Task Force. He could burn people with flas infinitely, and at crucial monts, he could transform into the Indian Fire God, swinging fiery fists for close combat.
The most troubleso part was that he naturally countered Pala's plant abilities. There's no plant in this world that isn't afraid of fire. If he couldn't be taken out imdiately, the mission was sure to fail.
Fortunately, Pala wasn't the kind of egomaniac who believed she could solve every problem. Before she ca, she had consulted with teammates in the Tomorrow Alliance.
Pala made a quick movent, letting the vines pull her to the second floor, and the mont she landed, threw a grenade at El Diablo, who had just turned around.
The grenade exploded, and Pala hid inside a giant flower bud ford by vines. The Fear Toxin Bomb, marked with the Scarecrow's symbol, instantly spread through a small area on the second floor. Caught off guard, El Diablo let out a scream.
Unsure if simply binding him with vines would stop his flas, Pala chose the safest thod—she took out the freeze gun and turned him into a big chunk of ice.
At this mont, Deathstroke arrived on the second floor, while Talya rushed into the first floor. Deathstroke fired a burst downward, successfully taking down Deadshot and the Witch.
"Hurry up!" Deathstroke said, "That big Shark is coming!"
Pala nodded, and the two climbed down using the vine-covered windows at the back of the second floor, slipping away as quickly as they could.
Talya was still engaged in close combat with Batman on the first floor, holding her own against the two. Just as she used her agility to dodge Batman's kick and punched Batman on the cheekbone, a strong figure roared in from the back door.
Having slipped back into the car, Deathstroke and Pala finally had ti to open the surveillance equipnt to view the scene inside the house.
When Deathstroke took down Deadshot, he had specifically chosen a good angle to let Deadshot lie on his back, with the surveillance device on his chest pocket working normally. Although the angle was a bit awkward, capturing only half of the room, it fortunately showed the scene of Shark King charging in.
"Is this big guy really that strong?" Deathstroke rembered the warning they received from Shiller before they ca.
"There are only two people in the X Task Force worth noting: one is El Diablo, who controls flas, and the other is Shark King, who doesn't seem very smart."
"El Diablo still has weaknesses. As long as you can attack his body, you can prevent him from using his abilities. But you should avoid Shark King. His skin is invulnerable, and he possesses great strength. The most important thing is, you can't reason with him, and there's no chance to plead for rcy. If you don't want to be eaten by him, it's best to stay far away."
anwhile, the surveillance footage displayed the current situation of the Assassin's Union. After the Shark King charged in, without any fancy moves, he casually grabbed a Ninja and put him in his mouth.
Just like that, a whole person was swallowed directly into his belly. Talya turned her head in shock as she saw this scene. She rushed at Shark King, but the martial arts skills she prided herself on were useless against Shark King. With a wave of his arm, Talya was sent flying.
Talya hit the wall heavily, coughed twice, and blood flowed from her mouth. Noticing that Deathstroke and Pala were no longer in the room, she realized they probably fled when they sensed things were going wrong.
Luckily, they had already achieved significant results, having incapacitated most of the X Task Force's combat power. Gritting her teeth, Talya wrapped a grapple around the beam on the second floor and swung out through the window.
The mission turned out to be a great success. When Pala and Deathstroke returned to base, they were t with enthusiastic applause from others.
"You all saw it?" Pala asked.
"Yes, ma'am, breaking through the window like that was just aweso!" Victor said, "Of course, the world's greatest rcenary lives up to his na."
"How many did you take down?" Cobblepot, who had just arrived, hadn't seen the operational footage.
"The one playing with ropes should be dead for good," Deathstroke thought for a mont and said, "The one throwing boorangs might be savable, but chances are slim. The one with the sniper rifle likely has a good chance of surviving but would need a few months to recover."
"The witch's ribs were broken," Pala said, "She might be the least injured, but her physical condition is also the weakest, probably won't recover for months."
"The one playing with fire is frozen by ," Pala said, looking at Victor, "As long as no one can undo your freeze, he should be permanently out of the fight."
"Who's left?" Xile asked.
"Shark King is uninjured," Pala said, "And there's soone missing in the team, the one with the samurai sword. They might be out sowhere and uninjured. Two Batn were injured, but I don't think those minor injuries are much to them."
"You'd better hope their Superman is busy enough," Shiller said, "If they find out you injured Batman, they'll make you pay for it."
"It wasn't who injured him." Pala looked at Deathstroke.
"If he causes trouble, I'll say you guys made do it," Deathstroke said as he walked aside to clean his gun, "Besides, he only injured his shoulder. Shouldn't require sending dogs after , right?"
The Tomorrow Alliance was fervently discussing the war situation, but Amanda's office felt like the dead of winter. She was like soone buried in a snow cave, chilled to the core.
"Why is this happening!! Why the hell is this happening!!!" Amanda shouted, waving her arms in the center of the office, "How dare that damn Assassin's Union do this?!!"
After a bout of impotent rage, she finally snapped back to reality. If her ticulously assembled team was wasted like this, then all the conditions promised to her by Diamond Street would be null and void.
That group was ruthlessly fickle. When you're of use to them, they're enthusiastic; when you're not, they're rciless. Amanda did not want to be abandoned like this.
She turned around in the center of the office and marched toward the command hall. Her subordinate standing guard at the door walked over to her side. Amanda waved her hand at him and said, "Activate prisons number 101 to 103. Also, release a rcenary recruitnt notice, double their pay, and make sure to pick out the strongest ones!"
In the dim prison corridor, heavily ard security personnel, guarded by soldiers with loaded guns, opened a cell door. A man covered in colorful polka dots stepped out from the door.
Soon after, the second cell door opened. Even before the figure erged, a voice floated out: "Did the first squad's operation not go well? Has the super artificial intelligence finally driven Waller insane?"
"Driving insane? Not even close." Amanda's figure appeared at the end of the corridor, "Wise Man, long ti no see."
"I know you don't want to see , but I really want to et Brainiac. You describe him as so strong, is it because you're all tech idiots?"
"Stop being a smart mouth here," Amanda said, leaning against one side of the wall. "Brainiac isn't as easy to deal with as you think. I suspect he also has a team under him, just as capable as ours. Otherwise, I wouldn't have thought of you, old hacker."
The figure in the cell finally erged. A white-haired man stood opposite Amanda.
"Whoever they are, I will make them realize my prowess."
"I hope so."
In the office, a competent woman in a black leather jacket hurried over, placed a docunt in front of Amanda, and said, "One good news, one bad news."
"The good news is that many people have responded to our rcenary task release, and we have picked out the two most competent ones. The bad news is, the most competent among them is Deathstroke, and the other has the title Poison Ivy, also known as Pala Isley."
Amanda's eyes widened, but she quickly looked away and said, "This is how these rcenaries are, whoever pays them, that's who they work for. The Assassin's Union paid to hire them, so they co to trouble us; but if we pay, they can naturally work for us too."
"There's also another issue, their asking price is very high," the woman said with a frown, "If we hired ordinary rcenaries with this price, we could probably hire a whole army."
"Quality over quantity with soldiers. You've seen their performance, they are worth this price. Tell them our budget is robust. If they're willing to work hard, there will be extra bonuses."
The woman nodded and left. Not long after, another subordinate ca in and said, "Slipknot has been confird dead. Captain Boorang is still being resuscitated, currently not in good shape. Deadshot is out of danger but still under observation."
"However, El Diablo, who was frozen, cannot be unfrozen. We preliminarily confirm this technique belongs to the cryogenic scientist Victor Fries, and we've also found a support contact on his research team's website. Should we call him?"
"Is this ice so formidable? Even flas are helpless against it?"
"This kind of ice is called dense ice and can almost achieve zero heat exchange with the outside world. The technology has been on the market for over five years, with potential to win a Nobel Prize in five years."
"Though there are no news reports of this technology being applied as a weapon, he must have privately given the weapon to his student for self-defense. Miss Isley must have obtained it from him."
"Then contact this Professor Fries for ," Amanda said. "Let him work for us, the price is negotiable."
After this subordinate also left, Amanda intended to return to her office but suddenly, soone rushed in saying, "Wise Man's ntal illness has erupted again. He said he experienced 150 years in the past hour. Our people have subdued him, but he refuses psychological treatnt."
"Damn it! Why does sothing always happen at this ti?!" Amanda cursed, then suddenly seed to rember sothing, "Is Victor Fries from Gotham University? Go, go call him back for , have him bring one more person, quick!"
"O-okay, who do I call?"
"Schiller Rodriguez."
Half an hour later, Shiller stood outside the cell, looking at the white-haired man sitting inside, hesitant to speak.
"Professor Shearer, I spent a lot of money to get you here, not to watch you stand in silence," Amanda said, arms crossed, "Can he be saved in this condition?"
"The money you spent is the only reason I'm still willing to stand here," Shiller said. "Even if he can be cured, are you planning to have a recovering ntal illness patient take on an alien super artificial intelligence?"
"There are no human rights protocols here! And you're not a doctor either," Amanda said, "Please skip the morized lectures and student-bashing, and directly tell what's wrong with him and how to treat it!"
